Of course I was thinking along those lines about Kilmarnock getting 6th place.
-
So with it being 2 weeks to our next game it gives us plenty time to make our predictions. Will we get second? Will we make europe? How many league goals will Higdon end up with? Can we beat Celtic twice in the one season? We have now gone 6 games without defeat, can we continue that run and for how long? For what it's worth here is a mini points table based on the games played between the top 6 teams. In brackets is the number of points we got from each team. Motherwell 26 Celtic 25 ( 3 ) Caley 18 ( 9 ) Utd. 17 ( 3 ) St J. 16 ( 7 ) County 15 ( 4 ) I think the league will end up Celtic Motherwell Caley Utd. St J. County I think Higdon will reach 26 goals and we will beat Celtic for a second time.

i'd be raging if i was a killie fan. They well and truly F'd it up. Bottom 2 teams at home. I was also in the camp of giving 6th place to killie.

many possible permutations but I think you are alluding to the fact that we may not need 10 points since you did state Max of 10. reading between the lines I tihnk you are saying that it is unlikely that both count and caley will get to 63 or 66. Regardless, i suppose we just keep on trying to win 1 game at a time and hope our rivals drop points. Excellent chance tomorrow to widen the gap between us and inverness and posisbly county if they drop points against hearts, which I think they will. So a win could put us 10 points ahead of a non european spot with only 15 to play for. Play and beat that team ( St J or County ) the first game after the split and european spot could be guranteed as we would be 13 ahead with only 12 to play for. That would leave just the battle for second place. edit: Ok not quite. We would have to reply on the other one of StJ or County to also drop points in the first post game split. So a victory against St Mirren would be a huge result for us. I am feeling strangely confident that we will uncharateristically beat them quite soundly. I think the guys will be up for this, Higgy will be fired up to maintain leading goal scorer and to break the motherwell record. Faddy will add that bit of flair and magic. I think tomorrow is going be a great day to be a motherwell supporter!!!!!!!

I think we are due to give St Midden good scudding. I'm going for at least 3 goals and Higgy on the score sheet a couple of times. Not over confident, we will wil ahve to play good but I think we are focused and ready for the task.

This is all I seen on the SPL website. You think they might have had an explanation regarding possible options depending on Scottish cup outcom! European places for 2013/14 Scotland are currently 18th in the UEFA country ranking list which means the following in terms of qualification for the 2013/14 European competitions: SPL winners Champions League Qualifying Round 2 - July 16/17 & 23/23 Runners-up Europa League Qualifying Round 2 - July 18 & 25 Third place Europa League Qualifying Round 2 - July 18 & 25 Scottish Cup winners Europa League Qualifying Round 3 - August 1 & 8

6th place is Kilmarnock's to loose. I would have said they were a stick on to make it, but then I looked at their results. 2 games 0-0 against Dundee Against StMirren they drew one and did actually win the other one. So not a foregone conclusion yet but if i had to bet, i'd put money on Killie securing 6th place. I hope Killie draw both games and then Aberdeen and Dundee Utd do each other out of 6th place by only managing a draw!
-
Yes! that would be excellent. Equal the record. Score third hat trick this season ( when did that happen last? ) Zoom out in front of SPL top scorers C'Mon Higgy!!!
-
hopefully we can get a couple of early goals to make their heads go down. I think as long as theplayers are in the right frame of mind ..... they will have to play well to win.........then I think we can get a good victory. If they show up thinking 3 points is a fomality then we are in for a shock! Fortunately I think they have learned from Ross County game and have the right attitude. if we do get in an early lead by a couple of goals we need to not settle for just the win but try to score as many goals as possible. Goal difference could be crucial come the end of the season. A good goal difference is like having an extra point.
-
I hope the big man gets at least one more hat trick. Both his hat tricks this season against top 6 teams. Not too shabby!
-
if Higdon does break the record I think someone needs to put some footage together of all his goals............but interspersed with derisory comments from on here. ( the real ones not the piss take ones like Fraz's ) The names of the "authors" could be deleted...............or not !!
-
That and I wouild love to see Higdon destroy the record for our top goal scorer since the 1930's. So aside from second place aspirations there are several other reasons for the team to get fired up on a game by game basis to get some of those records. I will say that since the Ross County game i think we have been doing a great job of pressing up on the opposition to win the ball back. I hope that continues.

Are they still called reporters because that's not what they do? Nice to see Nicky clear that up although i had already dismissed it as your usual crap newspaper article. Pretty ridiculous some of the things they get away with, putting things out of context, and twisting peoples words. Reporters are right up there beside used car salesmen !!!

This should most likely be our highest goal scoring season in the premier league. Higdon has palyed a big part in getting us there. I think our highest so far has been 55 goals and we are now on 51 with 7 games to go. Combine that with the number of goals we are conceding this year and you're geting your money's worth with respect to goals!!! EDIT: Apologies to the defence! our lowest goals against tally is 44 which was last season. Right now we are on 41 with 7 games left. So hopefully we can have our best defensive season too although I think that will be much harder to achieve. However it does make you wonder that perhaps our defence hasn't quite been as bad they have been made out to be. I think we just got spoiled last year the years prior were 60, 54, 51 and 46

Well since it's a long 2 weeks or so till our next game and because it is internantional break maybe this can give you something to go look up or ponder As a motherwell player who has scored the most goals for Scotland? For any international team? Same questions as above but the player could have scored them before coming here or after leaving fir park.

Interesting set of fixtures the weekend of March 30th/Apr 1st I wouldn't touch these with a barge pole at the bookies! Hibs V Caley County V Killie St J V Dundee Utd edit: In fact I'm not even sure i know who I want to win but I think it's Hibs, Killie and StJ. Although i'd rather not see Killie make it into the top 6. another edit: Make that Hibs, Killie and Dundee utd. TOLD YOU i wasn't sure!
-
That's the only way for us to qualify. but 2nd and 3rd are guranteed europa cup.
-
NO! We put him on penalties so we can win the games! who took our last penalty anyway. We've not had many have we?
-
Celtic clinched the first of their 9 in a row at fir park whenever that was. i was at at the game. The ball bounced in off Bobby lennox's knee in the 91st minute and that was in the day when they supposedly only ever played 90 mins. Huge crowd that day bunch of folks up on the east stand roof.
-
I recall that it was said Celtic never beat us when we wore the "sash" top Not sure if that is true or not.
-
Why? I disagree with that statement. if he has decided he is leaving but does not tell us, then he would still be in the same position as you describe above except we would not know. I think he has to be driving the players performance on the field and the board need to be getting the players signed up for next season. I do agree with your last statement though and i think mcCall is an honest proefssional who would still do his best to see us finish second even if he knew he was leaving. Either way it's an unfortunate siuation to be in at this time of the season and I would love to see McCall and the board resolve it soon as possible resulting in him signing for another few years. I have no doubt that he can be a big factor in retaining players for less money than they might get offered elsewhere.
-
Sod that "go home from work and watch the game on DVR"...................... Executing plan B....................Taking vacation day from work and hangin out with the wee man ( 6 year old grandson ) then me and him will plonk down in front of the telly at 2.45pm here and scream our lungs out as we romp to victory! C'MON THE WELL
-
Eh? Where did I mention that he leaves before the end of the season? He just makes his mind up now so we can start looking for his replacement if he is going to leave.
-
one of the worst things for football was AGENTS. I bet McCall would have been signed up ages ago if it wasn't for his agent...........................but still the board should be laying it on the line and saying make your mind up now. it's never good when uncertainty lingers on.

To The Board At Motherwell Football Club
texanwellfan replied to nethertonwellfan's topic in Club Chat
Too early for Moonshine. ( well ok maybe not ) I was referring to the middle of Steelboy's post that I replied to. "league construction - i've made my point on here and to dempster and weir that i'm strongly against zeroing points and splitting after 22 games." He probaly wrote that assuming everyone would be aware that it did not apply to the top part of the split but obviously i was not. But it does raise the question as to why only do it in one of the splits? As I mentioned I think that would be a great idea especially for the top 8 teams. edit: OK I see why they do that split now since they have to even out the teams who have been playing in different divisions.
