I would imagine we will see the same team as Ross County. The manager has made a big think about building on last weeks result for confidence and momentum. You dont do that by chopping and changing unecessarily. Unless there are injuries we dont know about I would expect to see the same starting 11.

I really dont know what some of our fans are expecting? Who wants to come to Motherwell in the middle of winter during a pandemic to fight relegation for £1k a week? Seriously? Im not gonna say Im inspired by any of the signings. To be fair, I hadnt heard of most of them. However, we needed to freshen the squad up. We have done that. It remains to be seen whether any of those signed will be any good. However, lets wait and see. They are all short term deals until the end of the season, so the risk to the club is minimal. Im just delighted that Deccy, SOD and Campbell are all still here. If the mananger can continue to coax performances out of the squad, like the 2nd half v County, then Im reasonably confident we will stay up. Beyond that its hard to say.

Aye, but is yer mate a "happy clapper" or a "pantwetter"

United have some very good players. However they are in terrible form right now. I think a lot will depend on whether we lose anyone in the window and whether we can get anyone else in. Will be a nervous couple of days.

See the 2nd paragraph of my post.....

Now THIS is something we should all be able to agree with. We cannot afford to close off any avenues or markets for finding the best players we can. Getting the balance right in our squad is the key to success, and regardless of how much I liked Stephen Robinson, it cannot be argued that he left us with anything like a balanced squad.

No significant increase in quality? Kelly > Chapman Lawless > Seedorf Smith > White Foley > Remains to be seen Whilst you might find that underwhelming you cant say it hasnt improved the squad feom wherw it was? Im not saying for a minute that I will be happy if this is the end of our business, Id still like to see a couple more last minute deals, even if they are loans to try amd improve our situation, but I am realistic enough not to expect to be "wowed" by them.

He said he had to bring a young player on and we lost a goal. That indirectly blames the young player for losing the goal, but more importantly isnt true. He didnt have to bring the young player on. He had numerous other options to bring on other more experienced players, but HE chose to put the young player on. The blame lies at his door for that and he is trying to make out that he was out of options. Its just not true, which is why it annoyed me so much.

I listened to the interview this morning. As someone who supported Robbo right to the end, I have no issues with most of it. Just an out of work manager touting himself for a job. Made mostly favourable comments about the club. The points I would pick him up on would be Cornelius. There was no need to mention that particularly as it is just false. I remember on the night thinking it was a crazy decision given the scoreline and the time left to play when he had shown absolutely no interest in playing the young boy in previous games. There were other more experienced players on the bench he could have used. But then, it wasnt the first time (or last) I thought his subs were bonkers. The other part was the "some players didnt want to be here, we were their only option" before trying to bring it back and saying "but they are a good bunch of lads". It cant be both. Firstly, why sign someone in those circumstances? Thats just bad management and highlights his mistakes and secondly, why say it at all? Overall, doesnt really change my opinion of him. He was a generally decent guy, with decent management skills but some quite obvious flaws which allowed him to be available on our budget. If Alexander proves to be better than Robinson he probably wont be here too long as someone else will pay him more money.

Young George was a class act in both his spells at Fir Park. Such an elegant footballer.

I would guess it will be on the Sportsound podcast later or tomorrow morning. You can get it on Spotify or just go to BBC Sounds.....

Could the usual suspects please lay off Sam Foley until we have seen him play? A major gripe by many on here is that we are a young inexperienced side who dont know how to manage and see out games properly. We are badly in need of some experienced pro's to help us out of this relegation dogfight. Ive no idea if Sam Foley is that guy, I cant say as Ive payed him much attention any time we played St Mirren, however, given that its a short term deal and our options are limited, I dont see what the risk is and will judge him on his performances for us.

Tony Watt by a country mile. Always making himself available for the ball and taking responsibility to drive forward and take the game to them. Thankfully he got a bit more help in the 2nd half than he did in the first. Our player of the year so far by some distance.
-
Fair point.

Much better 2nd half. Great 3 points. Tony Watt MOTM by a country mile. The one player in our team always showing for the ball driving us forward and trying to make things happen. Was still going strong at the end on a heavy pitch, so I think we can quash any silly ideas about his fitness. If we could actually build a decent team around him he could be some player. Whatever GA said at half time obviously worked. Much higher tempo and better all round. I agree re Maguire being our best midfielder. He should be retaining his place after that. Better than both Crawford and Alan Campbell who was poor again tonight.
-
Well that was a bit shite! Started well enough but wtf is Gallagher doing at the goal? He totally sells himself and Mugabi there. Kelly maybe should done better as the ball seemed to slide under him but after Saturday I can cut him some slack. Been pish since the goal, Campbell looks like he is wearing lead boots and Chris Long can leave now. Offered absolutely nothing. Watt the only one trying to show any leadership whatsoever, everyone else playing the easy ball. Id sub Long for Lawless and go 4-4-2 get Watt up top. If Cole doesnt improve after that then him for Smith next....
-
Aye there is some silly money in the Indian league. Hence why so many of our pro's and managers are heading out there.
-
Id go with a diamond...... Kelly SOD Mugabi Deccy Carroll Maguire Crawford Campbell Watt Cole Smith Lets just get right intae thum! Edit - unless Lawless is fit then Id drop Crawford.
-
I agree. They can have him. On Thursday!

Whilst I agree to an extent. If we had been given the penalty it could have been 1-1 which makes it a different game and maybe Polworth doesnt let his frustrations get the better of him? Similarly the goal we had chalked off for the ball being apparently out of play. Aberdeen didnt have a perfectly good goal chalked off. There is a clear push on Cole to stop him getting a jump on it before their player heads it into the net. It is a clear foul, correctly given. I dont blame the ref for us losing as we can always do better to cope with these situations, but he did have an impact on the outcome of the game....

Hi bud. Where you hearing the news about big Shuggie? I cant see anything official on the web?

Where are you hearing this news? I cant see anything on the web....

So do I, and I dont disagree that there requires to be improvement in many areas of the club. I just dont see how the Chief Executive coming out confirming we desperately need new players and are after x,y & z helps? All it will do is push up the price once clubs and agents know how desperate we are. Like I said above, if there are no signings, or those made continue to fail to meet the standards required to keep us up, then serious questions should be asked and changes further up the tree could be justified. Lets just see where we are in a week.
-
That is sad news. I wasnt that old at that time but just remember thinking it was a bit of a coup us signing an ex Celtic player. With hindsight that may have been because he was past his best, but I still have fond memories of him as a big gentle giant. RIP Shuggy

The position we find ourselves in has nothing to do with whether we publicise our transfer dealings before they are concluded. You seem to be prioritising your need for the board to demonstrate to you that they are doing something to rectify our situation, over just actually doing it and publicising it afterwards. If we get to the end of the window and none of our problems have been addressed, then you will have a point. Until then, why not just be patient?
