  1. I get it fine. But we've shipped plenty of players out the door this window without giving them game time. I was alluding to the fact that maybe Bowmans days arent as numbered as some think. I have no insider knowledge though. If others do, maybe they should spill.....
  2. If Robinson really wants Bowman out the door, why keep picking him for the matchday squad and then playing him? Not saying you are wrong btw. Just a curious way to force someone out the door.
  3. I like the idea of Hobbitses/Dossers fae the Shire entering the bowels of Mordor on a quest to save all middle earth from the nasty Orcs!
  4. Is Bigi injured or is it purely tactical? Havent seen much of Rose in a footballing sense but he does seem to be able to get around the park and close space down, so maybe in there to combat Dorrans and Jack?
  5. He is the best striker we have had since Tommy Coyne. Although I would love to see how Moult would have got on in that team as Higdon had much better service than Louis has had to feed off.
  6. Robinson is certainly making all the right noises pre-season and in the build up to this one. He didnt waste any time moving on players that werent cutting it. I guess we will soon see whether the replacements are the upgrade we are hoping for!
  7. Step aside Iron Man! There's a new super hero in town and ours don't rust!
  8. Its a really difficult one. You want the greatest players to be the greatest, but most of us arent old enough to have seen the team that won the Scottish Cup and League Cup in the 50s or the Ancell Babes. But by all accounts players like Andy Paton, Charlie Aitken, Wilson Humphries, Willie Redpath, Pat Quinn and Iain St John were great players. My first Motherwell included Joe Wark, Bobby Watson, Bobby Graham and Wullie P, who were all fantastic, but they never won anything. Johnny Gahagan was a childhood hero of mine through the harder times of the early to mid 80s. The 91 team had Cooper, Phil, Stevie Kirk, Dougie Arnott and dare I say Tom Boyd. All worthy candidates. Tommy Coyne has to rate a mention. His partnership with Doogie was amazing and those 2 seasons challenging for the league were right up there with the best of times. Paul Lambert also rates a mention, but was he with us long enough to be considered "great"? Big Brian Martin was also a standout in that team. More recently, Faddy, Hammell, Lasley helped us through administration with Hammell making the most post war appearances. Keith racking up over 400 appearances and captaining us in the Champions League. But were they good enough players to be considered great? Higdon beating Wullie P's scoring record to become player of the year? Much to ponder over. I will probably change my mind several times before I submit my 10!
  9. Picking your top 10 post war Motherwell players is gonna be a tall order and could take some time! So many variables! Do you just go with the ones you've seen? Do you throw in a few you havent as they are generally recognised as greats? Does it matter if they won or achieved anything? Really looking forward to seeing the results. Now where is that History of the Steelmen I had......
  10. If we win the midfield battle we wont have to worry about our defence so much. Conceed it before we start and it could be a long afternoon. McHugh must start at centre mid.
  11. Motherwell FC Made in Motherwell: Andy Walker http://www.motherwellfc.co.uk/2017/04/19/made-in-motherwell-andy-walker/
  12. Would rather avoid Hibs as I think they will be the best of the unseeded teams. Be nice to get someone we havent played for a while so Dunfermline has appeal. They should also bring a decent support. Ultimately anyone at home should give us a chance to progress.
  13. Good to see Frear has a good number of supporters. The boy has his weaknesses but he is young enough to improve on them. I think he can do a job for us if we can get other areas of the team sorted out. PS I also think Cedric had a decent game. But he hardly broke sweat. I think he has a few more gears left in him. Loved the way some of their players just bounced off him in the tackle.
  14. Frear. Would have been very easy to be dispirited today with some of the very obvious disapproval coming from the East Stand. But he stuck to his task and continued to whip balls into dangerous areas. Some of his team mates really should have been attacking them more. His delivery isnt always perfect and he does seem to be reluctant to cut back in on his right foot but he was our most creative player today and took his goal well.
  15. Thought the first half was just okay today. Berwick parked the bus, which is fair enough, making it difficult to play through them. The only option was to get round the sides and Frear put numerous balls into dangerous areas without any of our players seemingly able to attack them. Second half I thought our intensity dropped and we ran out of ideas. Our play got sloppy as a result and it was more relief than joy when we eventually scored. A few of our players seemed off the pace today but best to reserve judgement until we have played a full round of league games and everyone is up to same fitness level and the team know each other better. Robinson said in post match interview that the management team are only about 60% happy with where we are. Id say thats about right.
  16. Get the strongest 11 out. Get the game put to bed early then rest those that require protecting for next week. We need to be seeded for knock out stage to give us best chance of progressing.
  17. I think Erwin had lots of raw talent. He was inconsistent during his time here, much as you would expect of someone his age. Whether he has developed any or improved his attitude and application is anyones guess. However, he's not the striker we are looking for.
  18. Aye but we could offer them Blyth for free! Big man is buzzing to go!
  19. Getting McHugh extended is great business. He has all the attributes to step up a level. A good injury free season will see him attract suitors. This strengthens our hand.
  20. I agree. Far too early to be judging any of our new signings.
  21. Didnt think Dunne had a great game last night. Ball got stuck under his feet quite a lot, but I put that down to the pitch rather than lack of ability. I wouldnt have singled him out for praise but wouldnt criticise either. The one time he had to stretch his legs he proved he has bags of pace. I think once he beds into the team we will get a better reflection of how good or otherwise he is.
  22. Cadden. Only played 45 mins but he won us the game.
  23. Solid if uninspiring first half. Lots of dangerous balls into the box without really creating anything clear cut and a few long shots which their keeper dealt with. Carson never troubled, apart from some dodgy back passes. 2nd half, much better. Cadden and Tanner lifted the pace and much more incisive attacking threat. Squandered some decent chances before we conspired to present them with their only real shot on target which they took gladly. Did well to keep composure and recover the game. We need to look at this match in the round. It was a horrible sticky pitch. A lot of our less used players got a much needed run out and we got the 3 points required. The squad is still gelling and settling down. Everyone just take a deep breath.
