Its certainly the explanation given as to why the big 2 get more decisions. That and the influence of the crowd.......
-
If that was the case, surely other clubs would have seen an upturn in penalty awards?
-
Update Having a look back at the last 10 years, the most we have ever had is 6. The average is 5 across the whole period. Given how many European qualifications we have had and 3 best of the rest finishes, that is quite something. Of course we might not get another penalty for the rest of the season, but that seems unlikely.
-
Given that we have already had 5 penalties this season, and not being a club who tends to get the benefit of that many, it got me thinking what would our club record be for number of penalties in a season? I had a look in Transfermarket at our stats for the last 3 seasons and it didnt surprise me that the total of penalties in all competitions were 4, 5 and 5. It also got me wondering if this is is just an anomaly this season, or is it down to the style of football Stevie Hammell is employing? More possession, more chances, more time in the opposition box, more penalties? Discuss........

If we keep creating as many chances as we did today KVV will hit 20 goals for the season no problem. If he misses 50 chances to get that figure I will bite your hand off right now.
-
KVVs issues were with gambling. I think you are trying to find a problem that doesnt exist. He has missed plenty of chances prior to Moults arrival and will no doubt continue to do so. The only one I would criticise him today for is the penalty miss.

Listening to Hammell talk gives me a lot of confidence. None of the usual tropes and generalisations. Open and honest assessment of what worked, what didnt and where we need to improve, mixed with a clear desire to play entertaining football and give the players freedom within the set up to go and express themselves. Its no surprise both the players and the fans feel happier.......

Nice to get a clean sheet and defence were solid for the most part. Thought both Goss and Slattery had good games. Always available for the ball and looking for the forward pass. Went for Slattery but could just as easy have given it to Goss.

Not as fluent in the second half, but still the better side and still created enough chances to have won the game. Definitely feels like 2 points dropped. That said, still way more enjoyable to watch than Alexanderball. Would probably have made the subs a little earlier and would have taken Spittall off instead of Tierney, but overall, Stevie Hammell seems to be growing into the job nicely. Now to get King Louis in the team......

But happy to pick holes in others selections.....
-
It doesnt matter how many KVV misses as long as he scores his fair share and we pick up points. Id be more concerned if we werent creating chances....
-
Great to see /hear that we have been able to produce another good performance off the back of midweek. Really need to get a goal though. Be a shame for all that good play to go to waste......

Anyone got a link for a livestream? Hesgoal not working for me today......

Similar to Hammell getting the managers job, I have my reservations. But also couldnt want anyone to succeed anymore than this guy. Welcome home Louis!
-
True. I dont mind tinkering around the edges for tactical reasons, but unless you are in regular European competition and playing every midweek / weekend, Im not a fan of squad rotation. Unfortunately, we blew our chance of that, so it would be nice to see some consistency of selection and see if we can develop an "identity" in the way we play.

Maybe a question mark over submission of the appropriate paperwork?

Waiting........ Nothing on Sky Sports (unsurprisingly). Sitting waiting on Twitter to say something

Firstly, thanks for the clarification. In respect of the points made........ I accept there is a gap in quality between championship and premiership. Others on here would contest that it is far from a gulf. Regardless, my challenge to the players would be to go and prove it wasnt a flash in the pan and they can produce a consistency of performance against a better opponent. If I recall, Mugabi had to play against Aberdeen as Lamie was suspended and despite winning we did concede 2 goals. I think there is still an argument to be had as to who our best 2 centre halves are, but it looks like Stevie Hammell has decided its Sol and Lamie. Not sure I understand your thinking re the last point. Continuity as a reward for a good performance would appear good man management to me. The challenge is to maintain those levels if there are others waiting to take your place. Obviously, continuity, for continuity sake wouldnt be, we saw how that turned out in the past when some players knew they wouldnt be dropped regardless of how bad they played as the alternatives were no better.

Maybe he spoke truth to the manager......
-
Happy to see your team and discuss.......
-
Feel free to enlighten me. Again........ Edit. I know you dont go in for naming teams. But some context around your point might be helpful. I was quite careful to point out that I wasnt taking into account how United would play, as I dont really have any idea. I dont see enough of them. My point was more abount continuity of team selection and man management of the squad.

WTF are you talking about? Pretty much everyone here is referring to the business Stevie Hammell has done. If you want to stay mired in the GA era, fill your boots......

SLCup Motherwell v Inverness CT 31/08/22

Great to see some intensity coming back into our play. It was desperately needed and is essential when going up against the big 2. Celtic do look quite formidable right now. To have any chamce of success we will need to try and match their work rate. Thankfully our fitness levels seem to be improving, and with the number of young players now coming into the squad, hopefully we have the replacements from the bench to maintain that level over 90 mins. Still a huge ask, but, as others have said, would just be nice to be competitive again....... -
Without really paying any attention to how United set up, Id be tempted to go same again with the players that started v ICT. It wasnt the hardest of nights running wise and we were able to rotate a lot of our players out reasonably early so I dont think legs will be an issue. I also think we need to get some continuity of selection to continue to build confidence in what we are doing. Everyone who started played well and deserve to be rewarded for that. Also everyone that came on showed they can make an impact from the bench which is what we need. Kelly McGinn Sol Lamie Penney Slattery Goss Efford Tierney Spittal KvV

Im not sure where the disappointment in the business we have done is coming from? We all know we needed a left back, some width and pace and some back up for KVV. The only thing we havent covered is the back up for KVV and we have a hastily re-arranged press conference coming at 1pm. If we announce a striker, then surely Hammell has done everything required of him with the limited time and funds at his disposal? I know some have said we need a reliable centre half, but looking at the squad numbers I dont think that was ever in the equation. With the emphasis on youth coming through, Im pretty comfortable with what we have now. Just announce that striker.......
