  1. I guess thats a decision for a later date. Right now 3-5-2 seems to be the right fit for the available personnel. Going forward, when Blaney is fit, then maybe pushing Butcher into midfield will allow us to play differently. Right now, it seems to be difficult to fit McKinstry, Danzaki or Tierney into the side. But horses for courses....... PS I agree re the armband. You dont need it to be a leader......
  2. Thought Obika had a much better game now that we realise we need to play it to his chest or feet. He held the ball up well, gave us secure possession and brought others into play. Oh, and he took his goal well. KVV was outstanding again. The difference in his body language from just 2 weeks ago is incredible. Hopefully we can keep him motivated and firing on all cylinders for the rest of the season. Spittal and Cornelius work rate for the team was incredible. Goss, looks so much better when he has others around gim doing the donkeywork. His passing and distribition were excellent. The whole defensive unit were excellent. So much so Kelly barely had a save to make for most of the game. But the stand out for me was Callum Butcher. Led the line well, strong, uncompromising, organised the backline and put his body on the line when it mattered. Oh how we have missed a player with his qualities.
  3. No longer a must win game, but it IS a must not lose game, otherwise the last 2 results will have lost some of their shine. Same again for me. Concentrate on another clean sheet and we will have every chance as we definitely have more attacking options than Killie right now with Vassell being red carded at the weekend and them losing their other 2 strikers in the window. Hopefully a decent support down as well for what is one of the better away days.
  4. They say one swallow doesnt make a summer. What does 2 make? That was seriously impressive today, although I think both Robinson and Alexander would have a wry smile at the way it was acheived. I wouldnt necessarily have been considering Kettlewell for the job before Wednesday, but after those 2 perfomances and results it feels like more of a risk not giving him the job, at least until the end of the season. The next 2 games are huge for our season and upsetting some newly created momentum doesnt sit well. The difference in performance from Hammells last few games to this is pretty unbelievable. It may not last, but bringing someone new in guarantees nothing either. At least this feels tangible.
  5. Brilliant performance. Well organised, energetic and with just enough skill and flair on show to make it really enjoyable. No failures in the ranks again with every player getting more than pass marks and some players looking unrecognisable from the shadows of recent weeks. We learned from Wednesday and played to Obikas strengths more and he looks to have quickly built an understanding with KVV who was fantastic and Spittal who was absolutely everywhere. Really solid defensive performance though, which gave us the foundation to go and play. Butcher was immense and looks like the uncompromising hard b####rd that we have crying out for. Solid performances from both young fullbacks, albeit both will be disappointed with some of their deliveries from wide areas, but that will improve with games. Thoroughly enjoyed that. More of the same at Rugby Park please!
  6. Wow! What an opportunity for him! I wish him well, and once he is bumped next season for Courthois he can come back up the road as a cup winner! 😉
  7. So what your saying is, Chris Cadden IS actually a dick? 😆
  8. Fair doos. Post retracted. I blame the manopause.....
  9. Thats all well and good. But without the agent the players wouldnt know what else was out there and would be more likely to play things safe with what they know. Im not criticising agents, its their job. Just stating the reality of the modern game.
  10. The boy has only just come back from a loan spell and has had a few good games. I dont doubt that he looks a talent and we need to look after our assets, but its not as simple as that once agents get involved. Remember the clamour to get Jake Hastie signed up and the bile that went in his direction and that of the club for allowing him to go to Rangers. Remind me.how that worked out?
  11. Football has changed utterly since then. Every club will have a similar stat re managers. Bosman, player power and the amount of money in the game plays a large part in manager turnover.
  12. Alas I fear this is true. If what was between his ears was the same.level as whats in his feet he would be a world beater. But it isnt, and he is not........
  13. People just see a big guy and automatically assume he will be good in the air and put himself about. He didnt win a header all night and you wouldnt have got a newspaper under his feet during most of his challenges. That doesnt overly bother me as he was good with the ball into his chest and feet and was able to lay it off to others. Probably more a case of us learning what he is good at, rather than demanding he do stuff he is not.
  14. No failures tonight. Thought Casey was immense at the back, Johnston played well and scored a great goal. Spittal and Goss were much improved. But Ive given it to KVV. Ive criticised him heavily recently due to his poor attitude, work rate and general sulkiness, but he showed none of that tonight. He worked hard for the team, linked play up well, made good decisions and scored a very good goal. I dont know if Kettlewell has had a word in his ear, but more of that every week and we might just turn this around.
  15. Massive 3 points tonight. The performance wasnt perfect, but it gives us something solid to build on. There looked like solid structure and shape and everyone seemed to know their job. The workrate was much improved even from KVV, who I have been critical of in recent weeks. Tonight showed what he is capable of when his head is in the right place. Didnt think there were any failures tonight, everyone put in a shift. Yes mistakes were made (particularly at their goal) and most of our players have their weaknesses but everyone contributed something. Its feels good to get a win. Its been a while........
  16. I agree with this. The Society should run its own affairs seperate from the club. The alignment and overlap should come through input into the decision making via the board and lending of finances where required. At the moment it feels more like the club owns and runs the Well Society than the other way around and they pay it lip service in doing so. For it to thrive it really needs someone to drive it forward and give it a far higher profile than it currently has.
  17. Where is this Lambert rumour coming from? I know he was linked in the summer, but I assumed that was just agent/paper talk to get his name back in the public domain again. Id be very surprised if we could afford him and that he would be interested at dropping down to our level. Unless of course he just isnt getting a sniff at bigger jobs and is desperate to get back into the game anywhere he can.
  18. Very sad to hear this. He was a very able replacement for Ally Maxwell and if I recall correctly played in goals during our first ever European campaign. Another one gone far too soon........
  19. Well thats the last peice of the jigsaw puzzle in place. You may not rate Hammy. You may think the board are shite. You may think that these players are still shite and we are doomed to relegation anyway. But you can no longer say Hammy didnt know what the problems were or the board havent backed him in addressing them. Now we need to see a reaction. Lets do our bit.
  20. As Ive said before. I dont doubt his ability, and whilst we had no alternative replacement, it would have been madness to take our only goal threat out of the team. Maybe Im being harsh, and maybe he deserves another chance to show what he can do with someone alongside him, but Id be making it very clear what was expected and challenge him to show me the player that we saw in his first game against Hibs. He's by no means the only one who falls into that category, but he is the most visible culprit due to his body language.
  21. No I wouldnt. As a senior professional, I would be leading by example, running my ass off, putting myself about and shouting encouragement at my team mates, telling them exactly what was required. Not throwing my arms in the air and blaming everyone for not being as good as me.
  22. Will support stop him from being a huffy manchild with a bad attitude? PS not doubting his ability before you bring that up again.
