To @wellfans points I thought we were heading to the land of decency, long term stability at the end of last season.

Getting rid of the complete dross , reducing squad sizes, bringing in youngsters, small squads with better quality. Playing simple football, doing the basics well.

The issues that we have are
    1) clear vision and lack of exco members to run the club
    2) we signed worse than we let go (hard to believe that was even possible)
    3) on the pitch lost our confidence and lost our way in doing basic things well.

We should be a club be edging towards to top half of the league.  Importantly we should have clear vision and signs of being progressive, incrementally improving.

A well run club would indeed be around 6th and every few years have something better.

We may be 80% there but need to address the points mentioned above to stop this 1x per year need to replace a manager, that really isn't solving the other 2 points.

Good post, whatever is happening on the pitch sets the tone for the mood around the whole club, when things are going well, not a lot gets said about behind the scenes issues but it's the opposite when results on the pitch aren't going well.for me our biggest issue at the minute is recruitment, for the last 3 or 4 years there doesn't seem to be any plan,it feels like we're trying to grab anybody that's available and we always seem to end up with an unbalanced squad, that's heavy in numbers in certain areas and light in others.like you said we did some great work over the summer moving players on,to get the likes of lamie, shields and danzaki out the door who were all under contract was brilliant business but to then go and sign the guff that we did has been one step forward two back,to have re-signed obika and signed the likes of bair and wilkinson is a scandalous waste of funds.

Fair enough. If he gets back to basics and stops putting square pegs in round holes, and we still don’t get points but at least show up, I won’t be livid. That’s what I mean about mettle. I do still think the clock is ticking, however.

I agree with that,at the first sign of trouble he has really started to overthink things.if we get back to basics,I think we will be fine but if not I think he will be unemployed fairly soon.

I disagree. It’s a chance for him to show that he has some mettle.

When I say it's a write off for me,I just mean I expect us to get nothing from the game.kettlewell needs to start showing something different and this would be the ideal game to get back to a balanced and thought out approach,if we go with the same as we did against hearts then the scoreline could be scary.

When SK first took over, he took our set up and tactics back to basics and kept it simple. Just what was needed at that time. It took rivals a bit by surprise and worked a treat. However they then began to work out ways to negate us and our form took a nosedive.

Because of the type of player SK built his own squad around in the summer we became a one trick pony and he effectively backed himself into a corner. He's struggled badly to come up with a Plan B. That's where we are now.

That's it in a nutshell, doing the basics are more than enough to be picking up points in our league but for whatever reason we have stopped doing the basics this season, coupled with the terrible recruitment over the summer, kettlewell has backed himself into a corner and it looks like his only way of trying to resolve our problems is by the bizarre team selections that have cropped up over the last few games,I get that when things arent going well,it's part of the managers job to find solutions but surely between kettlewell and frail they can figure out that playing the likes of bair and wilkinson in wide areas and playing full backs on opposite sides is never going to work,it just smacks of desperation.the celtic game is a write off for me,if we can come out of it relatively unscathed and with no injuries or suspensions then great but what will be interesting is the team selection for that game.

Kettlewell has 3 massive games in December or same fate could follow

We do have some massive games coming up in december grizzly,if we lose to dundee though that should be the end for kettlewell.we were shocking for the most part against county after the last international break so I'm not holding my breath that we will see the reaction that's required.kettlewell will ultimately carry the can but it's a two way thing, the players need to start bucking there ideas up and fast.

I uncovered an astonishing statistic today, well to be truthful it was Casagolda on P & B. We have not scored a goal in the first half of any game since 3 September, 10 games ago. I knew we were slow starters but...........

That's a horrific stat and it taking for us to be two nil down in recent games before we even remotely show any interest is clearly telling us that we have serious issues that I don't think kettlewell has the answers for.

  7. Over the last few games, the one thing we can all probably agree on is that we needed to get back to basics, get back into a shape that suits us and make ourselves hard to beat but clearly kettlewell has other ideas as we're getting further away from the basics as the games go by,the starting lineup and game plan yesterday was as baffling as it could have got.kettlewell doesn't have a plan b and the the players he has at his disposal pretty much rule out any positive change in formation, all he seems to do is shift players about into areas that clearly will never suit them, spittal for example yesterday.theres no doubt he done a great job last season but that won't put points on the board this time,I would like to see us change manager now and spend the time between now and the dundee game in finding the right replacement.

Today I saw Spittal at left back, at half time we put a right back at left back, before finally bringing a left back on. Big Bevis played up front.

    These things actually happened.

When you break it down like that it's actually embarrassing, throw in playing bair and wilkinson in wider roles,it's no wonder so many are turning on the manager.

  9. Kettlewell deserves plenty of praise for the turnaround last season but the current mess is on him,the majority of the summer signings are dreadful, were back to being an unbalanced side with no pace or width, throwing mugabi up front and playing o'donnell, how many times to we need to see the same picture.team selection was madness today, bair and wilkinson playing a wider role, that's after last season where it was clear kettlewell had no interest in playing with natural wide men.gent changed the game for us the other night and then he's back on the bench again.for whatever reason everything had gone to shit very quickly and so far the manager doesn't have the answers,it's got the that feeling now that the end is near for him.

  10. Lovely goal that second from last night, that should be a big part of our game moving forward, full backs bombing on and getting the ball in as often as possible,it's a mystery why we have stopped that this season giving how effective it was when furlong and johnstone were here.on the early evidence we have a pretty lethal striker in mika and we should be doing everything to play to that strength,I don't rate wilkinson or bair but there more likely to do something if there getting balls crossed in like last night rather than asking them to play 30 yards from goal.

  11. Were more than capable of getting a result here but only if we can find a way to defend properly, gent made a big difference last night, him and spencer should be told to get forward and get the ball into there box at every opportunity as with mika in there he only needs half a chance.

  12. It was a miracle the amount of dross that was still under contract that we managed to move on over the summer,to then go and bring in what we did and then retain the likes of obika and o'donnell has set us back and prevented us building on the decent feel good factor on how we finished last season.davor is a mystery, the midfield were out on the feet last night but yet he can't get a look in,it's safe to say he will be odds on to leave in january with hopefully others to follow.

That's a fair portion of this squad, that might just get a 3rd manager shown the door. Unfuckinbelievable

Spot on,I said after the game at the weekend that there was a pattern emerging and how quick certain players are to look uninterested at the first sign of trouble, the manager will ultimately carry the can but I'll be glad when we're shot of a good few in our team at the minute.

  14. I'm definitely getting concerned but I don't see any reason at the minute to get rid of kettlewell but I think a few more bad results then we will need to seriously look at changing it around the turn of the year.i hope he doesn't start overthinking everything and we start to see a number of changes and daft formations each week out of sheer desperation,he needs to find a way of making us hard to beat again and build on it from there, confidence looks gone and individual mistakes are happening to often,we need to stop the rot and quick.i would be dropping kelly for a start,he is installing no confidence in anyone, get spencer at right wing back and give gent a go on the other side and get a bit balance to the team and let them attack all day long,it might not work this time but we seen what happened when johnstone and furlong came in last season.we need mika in the team as much as possible,if that's on his own or part of a pairing, either way we need a body or two getting forward from midfield.i think we can turn our form around but it will only happen if we get back to basics.the manager is coming under more and more pressure but the players need to have a look at themselves there's still to many that go hiding at the first sign of trouble and guys like kelly and slattery among others have previous for it.

There is no way, no fucking way, that Bair & Wilkinson were our two best options on the budget we have. Not a chance. And that's before we talk about Obika.

Spencer & Mika have been good, but the those two in particular are so so poor and we could have done far better.

Completely agree, keeping obika on was the lazy option,he was average last season when he wasn't injured, that set the tone for a piss poor transfer window.bair is shite, the best thing that can be said about him is that he works hard and that's where it ends,I thought wilkinson might have been a decent signing but he's a carthorse, throw in shaw and our option are as bad as I can remember.we would have been as well keeping shields and mandaron that's how bad things are.

And it's never been properly explained how SOD suddenly had an extra year on his deal.

It looks like all the pointless 2 minute sub appearances Kettlewell gave him triggered an extension but no one wants to admit it.

Aye the whole new deal for o'donnell was very hush hush,he should have been out the door in the summer.

Couldn't pass the flecking ball, hoofed it every chance he got, professionally piss poor even with 10 mins, rather a youth player on for 10 mins.

The fact we came into this season with o'donnell as first choice right back was a joke,we then sign spencer who has been decent but play him on the wrong side to accommodate him.
