Fair do's, well given he currently without a club he should get his number and invite him back to train seriously.
-
Well his stock might not be that low but I quite agree, the guy is without a club and the seasons started. He is no ones idea of a first pick that would pay him the kind of money he'd be used to since he left. That said a relatively skint EPL club like Everton who know if fit he can fill a jersey and do a job might offer him 5 times anything we could offer but even so he has been out a long time with injury and those offers might not come. It is highly unlikely but by no means beyond the realms of the unimaginable that he finds a non OF SPL team as an option and if so we'd at least be in with a shout. If he is still training with us then McCall should be offering him whatever we can reasonably afford on a 6/12 month deal and if nothing else comes along what is he gonna do retire? And again no I really don't expect it to happen, but it would be good if it did and no harm a bit of wishful thinking.

Sweet result there. Almost sorry I didn't go but happy enough to get points in bag.

It probably means Page isn't much good. I don't like to write anyone off on a handful of games but he certainly not much cover at full back. He looked like a lumbering oaf when played there. I suspect young Page is of the Bobby Donnelly level. That player he reminds me of a touch in recent times.

Nah Us/Utd is about Gunnings level just now. Some potential there but still pretty raw. Would have been delighted to have him but mostly for cover for Hammell and a bit of competition for Hutch and Craigan. With some improvements he might have been an excellent long term solution to replacing Craggs but not quite ready.

That was just a plain bit of bad decision making. Lasley turned on the ball and went back inside and if anything tried a more forward pass than was needed or maybe just tried to switch it I can't mind exact direction of pass but it wasn't backwards I don't think. He had spurned a simpler option of knocking the ball out to Hately which brought about that spell of play.

Never played professionally yet several amateur clubs would be due money? How much could they be due ffs! Surely it can't be more than a bag of matchballs and a set of bibs!

More season tickets is well and good, extra free ones to kids or not. If it is mostly free tickets ot kids well if you don't have younger fans coming in then well you run out sooner or later. So hopefully early exposure at young age will get the poor sods hooked. However it is less good if the overall gate is staying the same, give or take. This presumably means more people are buying a season but less paying in at the gate. Which presumably costs club money long run. And/or we have more kids in and more adults staying away for whatever reasons/financial/bored of the SPL etc/moved away from area etc. At the moment we look like we have a half decent product and with a few loans/frees in before window with luck a decent squad that will keep playing decent football and getting results that will get ST holders coming and increased PATG attendance now we heading towards end of holiday season.

McHugh did alright considering Murphy is far from an ideal strike parter. Sure if you have skills of Romario and Bebeto then two diminutive strikers can work no problem. But by and large in the SPL a bit of physical presence is a must and that clearly showed. That said arguably McHugh coped the better of the two though you can see he doesn't have the same natural ability as Murphy he put a shift in and of the two came the closer to getting a goal. Still no idea if he has enough about him to make it at this level but on evidence so far I undecided. If pushed I suspect he might come up short but if Higdon were fit I'd fancy he might do ok for us at least in the short term. I really hope though regardless of Murphy staying or going we get in another striker, midfielder and probably left sided defender to give us at least a decent bench.

With the chance Law could and maybe should have squared for McHugh, I think he saw McHugh as being a fraction behind and not as straightforward a pass as maybe looked from the stand. As it developed I was watching McHughs run thinking come on McHugh get up and get there for a tap in and Law seemed to delay so it could happen then decided rightly or wrongly to take it on himself and it was a second to long in the deciding as the defender lunged across to cover. Was a position he should have at least worked the keeper from if he didn't make the pass though so definately one of the most frustrating parts of the game. No hiding the fact we need some new faces as Killie despite big changes they needed to make from last season had the bodies to make those changes and we didn't. Saunders on for Hately seemed worth a go. Regardless of a fairly poor game from Hately he looked knackered. And Smith for McHugh couldn't really have hurt. McHugh was game and whilst didn't exactly stake a place for a start put a decent shift in and might have scored.

I can live with that weakness if it means we keep him at least for another season, if he can be prolific against the fodder then we'll do fine. Goals and performances against OF are something of a bonus. Hope they do come eventually so he can move onto bigger things for big money for us both as he likely to outgrow Motherwell sooner or later even as is.
-
Not gonna diagree with most of what been said, but also thought Higdon had a pretty solid game. A vital presence up front and showed plenty of potential. Linked up quite well, put himself about and no reason not to expect him to get among the goals sooner or later if we keep playing decent football like today.

One doesn't exclude the other and there certainly no guarantee a new one will come along anytime soon so if McFadden in the twilight of his career fancies a return I'd be all for it. Obviously hoping for an impact in the mould of Davie Cooper signing at 33 rather than say the return of Brian McClair at whatever age he was but clearly shot as a player!
-
My recollection of that particular game was that Sengewald was rank rotten, gifted Larsson about 3 relatively gilt edged chances but fortunately we rode our luck a bit and he squandered them. He is right up there with the worst players we've signed!
-
I can't entirely agree, he was awful. He had a spell where I was convinced he was about the worst player we ever signed. But the lad came onto a game and was pretty decent and was sorry to see him go to hibs for twice the money or whatever he was on here.
-
We didn't pay anything like as much for Falconer as we did for McSkimming, both I'd argue were mediocre/average. And in defence of Falconer as I said probably both cheaper and provided more on the park. When he did sign he had something of a purple patch which helped us out quite a bit in a sticky spell. Not a great signing but by no means a bad one.

Soloy was pretty decent, Ouifio was murder.

Poor opposition and poor timing. I imagine a very poor turnout for this and that is a shame as he deserves better. Still probably won't need the money to much, the telly and radio gigs look pretty set for him post playing days. On holiday myself so will be missing it, imagine many others in same boat.

Ridiculous rumour, quite like Saunders definately got potential to move on to bigger things in future but not sure top half premier league team down south on the cards. Would rip your arm off for a bid like that.
-
I wouldn't say take an offer off the table, but let the player know there is say a 2 week window whilst you on your hols or whatever to think about it and when that passes we look elsewhere. If some time after that having looked at options any player thinks actually I'm better off where I am I'd be happy for them to resign if we haven't already found their direct replacement. We can't be standing still, but wouldn't bite our nose off to spite our face if players aren't as quick as we'd like. Probably all academic anyway, we never seem to sign players until pre season long started or least not many or often and the players we talking about are likely to be off.
-
Someone mentioned Huddersfield and 5k a week to me and he'd be mental to knock it back. What is the worst case scenario, he doesn't deliver the goods and ends up on the bench. He'll do what he done the last two times that happened and return north of the border where he always seems to bounce back considerably better off. Alternately he might go down south for bigger money and with the years of experience he now has maybe he'll do a job and bang the goals in. Bigger diddies than him have hacked in Championship.
-
Agree or disagree with his decisions it a fairly clear rationale for how we set up. I do agree whilst generally outplayed and not at our best we for most part didn't look in any real danger of being cut open until later on as we chased the game and with a bit of luck would have been at worst level at half time. I not overly impressed by Hately in midfield in general, Forbes by and large looks poor though to be fair to him thought was not to bad in that 2-0 win so I can forgive him for making that on the surface strange call with Hammell. Maybe Saunders could have played right back to allow Hately to join the midfield but he been erratic there to my mind.

How about the team get the 3rd goal in the 10th minute of the match. Phil if memory serves got the 3rd goal in 91, so if the boys could contrive to put us 3-0 up in the 10th minute of the game that would seem a fitting tribute.

I know plenty people like to have the current top, but no one has to buy anything. Sponsor is a bit of a red neck, but hey ho it is money in the bank and hopefully a decent deal for us. But if you find it a bit cringeworthy don't buy one, they'll be another along next season. If you don't want to be wearing last years then hopefully that 125th anniversary top will remain sponsor free.

McCall has rotated and rested players and for good reason. If we get rolled over early doors people will point the finger but some of the same people would be first to criticise if he kept more or less the same first XI these last few weeks and we put in a tired performance or we had key players missing through injury. Win or lose in whatever fashion McCall has done a brilliant job, far as I know we got a full squad to choose from and all the squad been getting some game time. So everyone should just look forward to the day and make the most of it as there is never any knowing what sort of performance we'll get. We huge underdogs but we can win it!
