It wasn't purely down to the goalkeeping error. Dundee player had time and space in our half, no one near him or even trying to get close to him, to put a ball into a danger area. Samson has his faults but all season we have defended terribly. Don't get close to anyone, completely disorganised, can't even play in straight lines. Who can forget that utter shambles a few weeks ago with Jules and Heneghan at Partick Thistle with the exasperated McHugh trying to get them to play in a basic defensive formation. Truth is most goalkeepers at our level are good for 4, 5, 6 mistakes per season but our middle to back defending is responsible for far more of the 64 goals we've conceded. Goal 1 was a mistake. Goal 2 and Goal 3 are absolute school team stuff.

We've failed to score in 6 out of 13 league matches since the winter break while keeping 1 clean sheet.

Maybe we can't afford ball players because of the decline in attendances?

No doubt Samson will be getting pelters tonight while it's completely ignored that all three goals came from our right hand side where Dundee were given almost freedom of the entire wing. Cadden hopeless at defending from right back. Heneghan is just atrocious. Needs binned.

The goals we've lost on this match are awful even by this seasons standards.

Absolutely atrocious defending.

Totally undeserved lead for Dundee, been on top for whole half. We've lacked cutting edge up front though and the final ball has been poor. Just missing an intensity and even though we were on top there was a distinct whiff of 'Don't lose' rather than a real commitment to win. Game still winnable Dundee have been very poor.

If you had McHugh along side someone decent at the back I think he could do a really good job there. He spends a lot of his time trying to herd ducks in the form of Heneghan and Jules though.

Mio joined us in 92/93 I think, pretty sure McLean was still in place at that point but might be wrong. The header at Easter Road is still one of my great football memories.

I'll say that the player has been mentioned in the thread but it's not Denny Johnstone.

Well let me rephrase it - good options that can actually come in and do a job. No point having dire players who add nothing sitting on the bench.

Not really. Campbell deserves a chance to make an impression but he is 18 and has 2 first team appearances, he's bound to hit a period of poor form or inconsistency like most young players do. Murdoch on the other hand is 22 years old and has over 50 pro level first team appearances. Also, you can't go into a season without options which is what we've done this season. Look at McHugh - out for half the season, playing in defence for a good part of the rest of it.

Jai Quitongo has completely disappeared in the second half of the season. I assume he has a serious injury. I've always liked Peter Grant when I've seen him but he's probably out of our financial grasp. A player I think we'd have a realistic chance of getting and I think would be a decent bet would be Andy Murdoch. He's out of contract in the summer.

This post kind of sums everything up. Some keepers are allowed to have a 'few clangers' (like losing to Celtic by letting the ball trickle between your legs), while other goalkeepers get absolutely barracked if they punch a cross.

An exaggeration. He's not been great but he's had some decent performances like at Ibrox for instance. I'd still pick him over the likes of Clay, Lucas etc. You also suspect he might have the odd goal in him which most of the others clearly don't have. He's not performed anything like as well as last time but he's as good as we've got right now.

Agree. I think Lasley is still an effective player with the play in front of him. He doesn't have the legs to run back after people though.

See former goalie Graeme Smith got sent off leading to his team (Brechin) being thumped 6-1 and dropping out the play off spot for the first time this season. Oops.

McHugh - 90/11 Keatings - 120/37 I'd say that was better than McHugh.

Don't want to tempt fate with a game coming up but I'd say Dundee have the poorest squad in the division, or at least the least quality. There are players from all the other Bottom 6 teams I'd have at Fir Park whether it be Greg Tansey, Ali Crawford, Gary Dicker, Liam Boyce etc but you are really struggling to pick any one out of the Dundee squad. Mark O'Hara is probably their best player.

I think he has potential but it's not a WOAH! signing. I'd say he was better than Bowman and Blyth but not at the level of Moult or McDonald.
