Typical Motherwell winning last night. Would be typical of us to disappoint on Saturday. However, hopefully we recover from our endeavours last night and are fully focused on pursuing 2nd place. Yet to score against Hearts this season...
-
Everyone put in a helluva performance. The defence was incredibly solid given our performances this season. Few telling tackles from Hutch that put the fear up Celtic while Cummins played beyond his years. Law was outstanding, while we needed the inspiration of McFadden to make us believe. However, I'd probably give motm to Lasley, he held things together in the middle and allowed Humphrey, Law, Faddy and Ojamaa to run at them with devastating effect. .

Highlights on SS1 at midnight...

Fuckin knew we would win tonight before the Ross County game was finished. It's the Motherwell way, so much better when we have a point to prove. When I seen the lineup, I feared the absence of Carswell would prevent us playing a pressing game but we we got the defensive side of the game spot despite the attack minded lineup. Whatever happens in the remainder of the season, tonight is one of they nights that you cherish forever. Fucking magic.

If be surprised if Celtic fill the South. Definitely under 9000.

2 years ago tomorrow.

Any word on Hateley and Hammell? Midfield trio of Law, Las and Carswell. Ojamaa and Faddy playing off Higdon. If we have a full strength team I fancy is to have a right good go at them. If we have any absentees in the back line though we could be in bother.
-
In terms of ability, it's between ourselves and Dundee United for 2nd best team in the league. If contract negotiations and injuries/suspensions don't get in the way we should be fine. Big week ahead of us though.
-
Page isn't on loan anyway, we terminated his contract. Cummins and ZFA are a year or two away from playing in a SPL defence but from the snippets I've heard about Saunders, he isn't ready to step in. Good to see McCall angry post-match although I hope he manages to enjoy his trip to Wembley. Heard Erskine scored a belter yesterday.

Dropping points to a team managed by Bomber Brown, now that would be embarrassing.

Last time I fancied us to beat Celtic was on the back of a brutal defeat to St Mirren when Higdon scored. And we did. Never seem to beat them when we're on a decent run of form. We need a fit Hammell and Hateley on this occasion though.

And this is the guy that heads up the ''well society?
-
Deary me, our away firm has deserted us since the comeback at Easter Road. Fancied us to bounce back today after the midweek disappointment but it was a tough ask given the loss of Hateley and Hammell. We'll beat Celtic on Wed.

Back 4 of Ramsden, Hutch, Cummins and ZFA.
-
Midfield 3 of Lasley, Carswell and Law. Higginbotham in behind Higdon and Ojamaa.
-
Higginbotham looks like a decent prospect to me. Needs to be playing behind the strikers though.

Yet another enjoyable, albeit frustrating, game at FP. The first 45 absolutely flew by. We played some great stuff but the final ball wasn't there. When the ball did drop in the box, Ojamaa and Higdon weren't as sharp as they were on Saturday. Hutch had a few rough moments but credit to him for sticking to the task. Biggest concern for me would be Hammels struggle with injury this season. His movement seems curtailed and he is therefore unable to provide the outlet that the good play of Higginbotham and Ojamaa requires. Pretty impressed with Dundee United. Makeshift defence dealt with everything that came into the box. Midfield was very tidy and fed the dynamic duo of Russell and GMS to great effect. Both of whom should be close to a Scotland call-up.
-
Slight concerns over Hammell and Hateley given that they passed late fitness tests for Saturday. However if the back 4 and Carswell can repeat Saturday, then the platform is set for Law, Ojamaa and co to run riot. 4-2 'Well.

So if playoffs are such an exciting money spinning prospect, why can't we go with a 12-12 and introduce playoffs for 11th in top league and 2nd, 3rd, 4th in the second tier? This would be the natural way to go. Take automatic promotion/relegation out of our game and we are operating in a farce of a setup. -
Special mention to Hateley. Very solid performance given that he hasn't trained all week. Seems to be gradually getting back to form.
-
As Higdon said, Nicky Law by a country mile. He'll feature in best Motherwell XIs for years to come.
-
Enjoyable game again. Most balanced I've seen the midfield for a while, Carswell done a very good job while Law was by far the best player on the park. Higginbotham was as I expected. While he's better suited to playing off a striker he could do a job for us coming in from the left. Clean sheet warmly welcomed, shame Ramsden had to go off.

Probably less than 4,000 at the game today. The heart has been ripped out if Scottish football due to sheer greed. Given our relative success since McGhee arrived, apathy has probably set in more at Motherwell than some of our SPL counterparts. For years, I dreamed of seeing Motherwell in Europe. Thinking back to the Aberdeen game under McGhee, I turned up at 3 with my ST and the East was closed and managed to get one of the final seats in the Cooper. That just wouldn't happen now. As daft as it sounds, fans have got used to playing in Europe. The excess qualifying spots in the league along with the clubs defeatist approach to big games certainly hasn't helped.

Is Devlin back from Dumbarton now? From the wee snippets I read he wasn't getting the best of reviews. Law in the middle with Carswell, ZFA on the left. 6-3 Motherwell.
