  1. I get the arguments on both sides (cash V supporter enjoyment) and from an unashamedly selfish point of view I'm behind the club in its decision. However those who advocate housing some OF fans in one of our 3 "home" stands usually suggest doing so in a stand where they don't sit. The club will take a modest financial hit but seems to be doing so for our own supporters. Hopefully a few more of our own lot will be encouraged to turn up at these games.
  2. You're at it Iain. ;-)
  3. Yes, an excellent move by the club and long overdue. We sit at the southern end of the POD Stand and have had to suffer in the past and I really feel for those at the northern end. Hopefully it'll encourage a few more Well fans to attend these games.
  4. You're right. I mentioned David Devine because Maurice Ross mentioned that he thought the youngster would push on next season but maybe Barry Maguire is ahead of him in the pecking order, but the jury is still out on him. The club coaches and managers will know best but yes I agree we seem a bit light in central defence. Left back?
  5. A bit of idle speculation on my part, but here's my take on where our rebuild is at. Quite a few unknowns at this point. Carroll to replace ATS; Devine to replace Mbulu; Gallagher to repalce Aldred; Sloth to replace Gorrin; Polworth (?) to replace Hastie?; Donnelly to replace McHugh? That then leaves us 2 wingers short; 3 if Cadden leaves and 2 strikers short. I know its not a perfect "fit", as I'm not sure where Polworth fits in - maybe replacing Turnbull if he moves on? Also will retain 2 first choice keepers. Where does Peter Hartley fit in? Irrespective of the details, we are badly short on the wings and up front but everyone knows that.
  6. If that turns out be true he'll miraculously be transformed into a cultured and talented footballer with skill aplenty.
  7. I'd guess too that there are a fair few players in the Juniors on £400 a week plus.
  8. Much has been made of Alan Burrows' comment about it needing to top our record transfer fee for a buyer to secure Davie Turnbull's services. Thats commonly believed to be about £1.75 for Phil O'Donnell in 1994. Taking inflation into account that would now work out at about £3.3m.
  9. I get the impression Cadden has been holding out for better offers but that can't continue indefinitely. Your squad list is comprehensive but I'm not sure what contribution young lads like Devine and Cornelius can be expected to make just yet. Hopefully they'll be brought on gradually as they mature. I'm not convinced yet about our defence but things will become clearer. Dunne has been error prone but his physicality and pace has kept his head above water. Am I right in thinking that Dunne and Gallagher are both left sided central defenders? We badly require an all round midfielder to replace Gorrin. Someone who can compete physically, can defend but who is also comfortable on the ball. There's a shortage of bodies to populate the wings and striking roles. Question marks over Peter Hartley and retaining 2 first choice goalkeepers. Overall with the amount of established players leaving I'd hope we can invest in a little bit of quality, with youngsters taking up squad coverage roles. Its going to be an interesting summer, beginning with next week.
  10. Not bad entertainment for an end of season finale. Some random thoughts. * Possibly Chris Cadden's best game for a while, maybe he's getting back to full fitness. * James Scott's best performance for us yet? Thought he was impressive but shaded a bit in the second half. * Liam Donnelly had a reasonable game but he's no replacement for Gorrin. * Great to see Dean Cornelius and David Devine make their debuts. The conveyor belt just keeps on running. * Thoughts on Declan Gallagher? Impressed with his attitude and he was unbeatable in the air. Otherwise quietish game. * Great substitution by the boss, bringing on Carl McHugh to steady the ship near the end.
  11. There were 2 collectors standing together in the south part of the POD Stand. Thats all I can say.
  12. Just in case anyone doesn't know the Society is £20K short of meeting Les Hutchison's "Double Your Money" target by the end of May. There will be a collection of old/unused foreign notes & coins at today's game against Livingston.
  13. Posts on P & B quoting a Scott Mullen tweet that Aldred, McHugh and Gorrin are all offski. No surprises there then. Allan Campbell has been offered a new deal.
  14. There were unsubstantiated rumours some weeks ago that he'd form part of a deal for Jake Hastie. No further substance to it.
  15. Its just well.... interesting to get everyone's take on the game. While I like us to win every game we all know its not going to happen. Last Saturday and this Saturday too, there's other important considerations like giving up and coming youngsters game time. As you say the result will make no difference to our final league position or financial reward.
  16. I think the article is being taken slightly out of context. Alan Burrows' comments apply equally to over half of the clubs in the Premiership, not just us. In short, its an issue for Scottish football. We always have been in the same market more or less for players as clubs like Kilmarnock, St Mirren, St Johnstone, and Dundee etc. This is nothing new. What is newer, although not new, is that mega rich foreign investors have been displacing British owners of the top English clubs and this has had a cascading effect right down the English league system. Perhaps Alan Burrows is just being more open, than his counterparts about our transfer targets. Big money is now being poured into non league clubs down south. Don't forget too that many English clubs have catchment area populations far larger than ours.
  17. Interesting that 37.5 % of survey respondents don't care in the least if we win, lose or draw.
  18. Will Declan Gallagher play against us? Maybe see Adam Livingstone get a start. Hopefully Gorrin will play.
  19. No, nothing to do with that.
  20. We all know that there's going to be a major rebuild this summer, but just how significant will it turn out to be? A half decent discussion on P & B about it. By my reckoning the following will be out of contract: Mbulu, Cadden, Frear, Gorrin, McHugh, Main and Tanner. Loanees possibly/certainly leaving are: Aldred, Ariyibi, Sammon, McCormack and Newell. Don't think I've omitted anyone. Add to that question marks over Hartley, Donnelly and Johnson who will remain under contract but seem to be injured/out of favour. Bear in mind too that Gallagher and Polworth are coming in highly recommended and Maguire is returning. Question mark over Carroll. How many of them will we actually miss? Of the above lists I'd say we'll miss perhaps Cadden, although his development seems to have stalled; Gorrin, who will be a big miss; and perhaps Aldred, although Gallagher may well replace him. The headline exodus seems quite disturbing at first glance, but just how disruptive will it turn out to be? The above will be using up a fair whack of our playing budget and I think that we can replace some with fewer but higher earners. It shouldn't be too difficult to improve the squad, especially a first 11. No doubt along with successes there'll also be some failures, but thats life. An interesting summer ahead.
  21. Knowing nothing about English football, and caring even less, my only concern is if all 3 clubs are capable of stumping up a hefty fee? Not strictly true, given his loyalty to us, I'd like him to go to a decent club and do well.
  22. Just watched the TV highlights on BBC. It confirms my suspicions at the time that it wasn't a penalty or a very, very soft one at worst. Its of the "I felt a touch so went down" variety. 2 huge penalty decisions which could well have influenced the outcome of the match potentially costing us £60k in the process.
