  1. I think that players like Burke would look on our record of taking players on and helping them to kick start their career and possibly decide that a drop in wages for a year may be worth it.

    Saying that, I won't be holding my breath on that one.

  2. Motherwell didn't try hard to keep me seems to fly in the face of what we were told from the club !

    Does it matter?

    He stated that he asked for a new contract at the start of the season, and just after Christmas. It wasn't offered.

    That's the risk you run.

  3. With regards to Craigan, it's true that we need someone to replace him, but the answer isn't to get rid of him then start looking around.

    We need to bring someone in this summer who can come in and replace him during next season gradually. After that happens we'll hopefully see Craigan given some sort of coaching role at the club if he wants it. The guy has earned it.

  4. Seriously mate the place is run by amateurs, 20 minutes to serve one person, not answering calls, don't send out renewal forms etc.etc.etc it's a joke. Stick up for them all you want but they really have to tackle this problem because some people just can't be arsed with it, they should be going out of there way to help us not the other way round.

    You can add my name to the list of people who have been served in a timely manner and who has no complaint about the customer service.

    Maybe your phone has been cut aff? Ye paid yer bill? :evilgrin:

  5. The Aberdeen Evening Express from today is saying the same thing as the Wishaw Press I think;

    Motherwell boss Stuart McCall believes Steve Jennings will snub Aberdeen FC to stay at Fir Park.

    Aberdeen FC boss Craig Brown is an admirer of the 26-year-old midfielder, who is out of contract this summer.

    He said: “They can afford to offer him more money than we could, but his family is settled here and he might not fancy moving so far north.”

  6. Although I'm as disappointed as the next guy to lose Sutton, resigning Jennings & Gunning would set us up nicely.

    If we retain the majority of the squad we had at the end of the cup final, and manage to add a few more players (especially up front) I'll be a happy camper.

    I went into the close season under the impression we would lose Sutton, Jennings, Humphrey, Gunning & possibly Murphy. We may still lose a few of them, but with news that McCall is looking to tie down Jennings & Craigan I'm optimistic.

    Retaining Jennings would be a major coup I reckon.

  7. Celtic have complained to the BBC about the accusations of sectarian singing at the cup final according to the Sun;

    Furious Celtic chiefs last night asked the BBC to explain why Rob McLean and Pat Nevin accused their fans of chanting sectarian songs at the Scottish Cup final.

    More than 800 Hoops fans have complained to the Beeb about the pair's claims, made live on air.

    And now the club has demanded an explanation for Saturday's comments.

    At half-time, presenter McLean said: "Celtic supporters have been singing some sectarian songs during the first half."

    Pundit Nevin said: "I'm going to mention it every time I hear it. Let's embarrass these teams."

    But Celtic are adamant their supporters did NOT sing any bigoted songs.

    Last night a club spokesman said: "We've raised the matter with BBC Scotland and are awaiting their response."

    A Beeb spokesman said: "Celtic have been in touch seeking clarification, as have several hundred fans. We will be responding to them."

  8. Just for the record, I personally don't think there's a problem beyond some fans using certain names to rile up whoever we happen to be playing that day.

    For those who think we need to address it all though, I'd like to hear what they want done?

  9. The one thing that neither the OP or anyone else going on about these problems in the Motherwell support have raised is what the actual solution to the problem is?

    What would you do? If it's important enough for you to start a thread on it, then you surely have must have some idea of what you would like to see done?

  10. stephen craigan is done at this level im afraid

    I disagree. His experience is second to none, and whilst I would certainly like to see a replacement coming through I don't think he's finished.

    Like most of the defenders in the SPL, he'll get caught out more times than not by Rangers & Celtic forwards. He's still got a fair bit to give I think, even if he doesn't play as many games this season as he did last.

  11. According to chat on P&B Sutton is on his way to Hearts. I'm not sure about the £6,000 per week wage that's being mentioned over there right enough.

    I'm guessing that if he was staying at Fir Park he'd have signed by now though.

  12. The post-cup final email has been sent out;

    It’s Monday afternoon after a really disappointing weekend and just watching the game back, it just adds to the emptiness.

    As the game got nearer our belief got bigger, preparations had gone well and everyone was fit and focused, but we knew we would have to be at our best and carry a big slice of lady luck, unfortunately, we got neither.

    After the second-half mauling against Rangers, I knew we couldn’t start the game 4-4-2; the two occasions we’ve played well against the Old Firm this year was going 4-3-3 (in our unlucky defeat in the Co-operative Insurance Cup Semi Final and our memorable 2-0 win over Celtic at Fir Park).

    The shape had been decided on weeks before, it was the personnel which needed sorting and the unfortunate injury to Maurice Ross, which restricted him to only two proper days training with the squad before the Final, forced my decision.

    Tom Hateley had played Commons fantastically well in our 2-0 win in February so I needed a third midfield player to join Keith Lasley and Steve Jennings, and watching our 2-2 draw with Dundee Utd up at Tannadice where Stevie Hammell had done well in that role, I opted for him which enabled us to play Gavin Gunning in an attacking full-back role whilst giving us extra height when defending set plays.

    So that was my thinking behind the selection and, in honesty, if you watch the game back, Commons, Hooper and Samaras were well marshalled all afternoon.

    The disappointing aspect was that although they had rarely troubled us up to the half-hour mark and the shape was solid, our possession and use of the ball wasn’t as good as we know it can be and we carried little threat.

    That said; going in 1-0 down at half-time was harsh! They had one long range left-footed strike that flew in; ours crashed back off the bar and that was all there was between the sides. On another day, we could very well have been level.

    We had a brief spell in the second half where we were on the front foot but couldn’t sustain any real pressure. But, having gone to 4-4-2 with 18 minutes left, we were still in there fighting until a cruel deflection and lady luck went against us. The second goal, and not the first as was widely predicted, was the defining moment of the game.

    We all left Hampden gutted because we failed to produce our best which you need if you are to beat either half of the Old Firm.

    You, the fans, were terrific and stayed with the players. The players, to their credit, gave there all in terms of endeavour and effort, and should be remembered for an outstanding season with their performances in Europe, in both Cup competitions and finishing in the top six of the SPL after a long season.

    We will be doing everything we can to keep most of the squad together as the spirit in the dressing room is excellent. We’ll know where we stand in the next few weeks.

    Finally, I would like to thank the fans, the staff and the players for making me so welcome and pulling together after the disruption in the middle part of the campaign. It has been a rollercoaster of emotions but one I can’t to be going through again soon.

    Hopefully see you all back, refreshed and raring to go, come the 23rd July.

    All the best,

    Stuart McCall

    Manager
