Do you think Lasley would have caught Law or Humphrey? For Humphrey's there are very few in the SPL that would have got a challenge in after he had initially got past them.

Tackle on future Motherwell player Dave McCabe. Boydd was the best left back in my memory of watching the team but his time with Celtic seems to be held against him.

Stirling and McSkimming were midfielders who were asked to fill in at left back so it's a bit harsh to judge them there. We've been very fortunate to have had a string of very good left backs who have made the position their own with a few periods of making do in between them. For some reason I thought Resch played on the right. Who was the other guy we signed at the same time? Delameaux was more of a sweeper - don't remember him playing left back. Great player but his best position didn't really suit the team's shape. Many congratulations to Stevie. A second cap is long overdue as Scotland have been guilty of making do and playing players out of position at times rather than getting in an experienced left back.

Don't doubt what you're saying but it would seem bonkers if we have to adhere to stricter standards than Spanish clubs.

It was also deemed safe enough for us to sit in seats with no backs at Levante and I'm not aware of injuries occurring because of it. The concrete floor below the stand was up and down all over the place and you definitely wouldn't have got away with that here.

I wasn't confident when I saw Kerr in the line-up but thought he did pretty well. Couldn't vote for Shaun because of the second goal so went for Carswell - can only assume taking him off was for tactical reasons.

I'm also assuming that finding out the compensation due is part of the process and they would do it with other candidates as well so they know what they're dealing with.

There was mention earlier of an escape clause in his new contract which I assume meant he would be able to go for less than the value of the remainder of the contract. Before everyone goes off on one about the club allowing this to happen, remember negotiations took a while and maybe this was the stumbling block. Can you imagine the meltdown if we'd told him to bolt because of it? ETA - loads of people got in before me while I was doing some one-fingered typing.

If he doesn't get it, it doesn't mean he wants every job that comes up - he just wanted this one with a club he has strong links to. He didn't go chasing it but spoke to them following an approach.

I had a great time in Nancy and would be delighted to be drawn with a French team. I stayed in Nice for Scotland v Estonia game after the no-show and it was great. Train journey all the way from Motherwell was monumental - I'd go for EasyJet this time! Lille is a lot closer and driveable but is supposed to be a hole although I'm sure the same travel writers haven't been anywhere near Motherwell.

He maybe wasn't happy about coming off but he shook the hand of the sub (Carswell?) and then McCall. Couldn't see if he went to the dugout or down the tunnel but he didn't seem to throw a strop.

I didn't really see it as a lack of effort. Nothing between the teams in the first half in terms of general play but they got the goal with a good shot from distance. When they got the second early in the second half it changed the shape of the game completely. They were able to sit very deep when we had the ball making it really difficult to break them down. They also had their tails up and were chasing our defenders. After that we had no chance of coming back. There's a lot of SPL games where there is little between the teams and it comes down to who manages to get the goals on the day. Yes, it was frustrating but I've seen plenty of games like it.

On my way in, I asked a steward if they'd underestimated and he said MFC had told St. Johnstone they expected to about 500 fans to travel. The steward said that would have been comfortable in that section of the main stand but it looked more like 1500 to him.

Good news about Ramsden. Solid player now and will help by providing some continuity when it looks like we'll have a lot of changes in the team.

Sounds as though he had about a third of the Championship to pick from. Birmingham's recent track record suggests they've either got a good eye for a keeper or have been very lucky.
