  1. Roberto Martinez got saved by the voting system at the expense of poor Shaun Fagan for me. And Jamie Doyle is posted missing in midfield as usual!
  2. Did Ouefio have a brother who played for Hearts for a while?
  3. Jamie Doyle was a very slow central midfielder.
  4. I think we signed Mark Caughey following a goal he scored for Accies reserves against us where he ran nearly the full length of Fir Park and went round half the team. Never quite managed to produce the goods for us although I think he did go on a similar run against someone but fell over trying to knock the ball into the net.
  5. I watched the highlights from the '85 semi against Celtic last night from the link someone posted to lots of clips. The often mentioned John Gardiner, Derek Murray and Jamie Doyle (one of my suggestions) all seemed to have reasonable games. Murray played left back and I can't remember him ever playing anywhere else.
  6. Anyone mentioned Richard Offiong? Went on to play for Acciesbut rreally didn't impress for us.
  7. Yeah, Paterson, Quinn and McGarry looked like pretty decent footballers for a while under McGhee. Was it also McGhee who gave Martin Grehan a chance? Hmmm.
  8. I remember seeing Alex Kennedy and Gerry McCabe both getting sent off for fighting, rolling around in the mud in front of me when I stood in the south enclosure. Many years later Alex Kennedy turned up again, on TV in the Junior Cup Final - he got sent off for a tremendous flying head butt!
  9. From a similar period to some of them, Jamie Doyle is the slowest central midfielder I can remember seeing play for us. Jamie Fairlie was also pretty rotten. We had some right haddies in the 80's as wee Tommy tried to gradually improve the team.
  10. Great find. Just watched the 2-2 draw with Rangers from the start of the 82-83 season - what a game that was and particularly poignant seeing the contribution if Iain Redford. No surprise to see Mcdonald diving but it's changed days when Archie starts by saying the crowd crushing is a healthy sign!
  11. Sorry, phone/drink problems. ... by not taking our chances.
  12. Delighted with a win there whatever the circumstances but we brought the worry of an undeserved equaliser on ourselves by
  13. Just off train at Haymarket. Lovely sunny day in Edinburgh. Pubs are open - love my days out in Edinburgh!
  14. I see McCall says we got £350k for Ojamma. That's a lot more than I thought and a good bit of business for a player we got for free.
  15. I've been away for a few days to Argyll so missed the St. Johnstone game and was looking forward to this. Planned to drive back late morning, drop the family at home in Glasgow and continue on to Motherwell. Then I found out it was a lunchtime kick-off so we all had to get up early. Struggled to get the wife and kids up, 2 hour drive home, ran into the house to get scarf and season ticket while my wife emptied the boot - then I got a text telling me the game was off. It's fair to say I'm not very popular! It didn't cross my mind the game could be off but it's no great surprise considering it was chucking it down while I was away and the main road was closed because of flooding.
  16. Key thing is take lots of sweeties and be prepared to miss goals when they need to go to the toilet at the worst possible time. I've only managed to get my 8 year old son to about one game a season over the last 3 or 4 season. He does seem to enjoy it while he's there but there always seems to be something else he'd prefer to be doing. Ah well, maybe my daughter will take to it.
  17. Thistle fans I spoke to said Piccolo was a disaster when thrown in at the deep end against Aberdeen and Dundee United and was responsible for the goals they lost. Since then he's settled and has been playing well for them but that was a return to his old ways.
  18. Players arriving and even some fans being turned away because the turnstiles aren't open yet. Nice day in Maryhill but still freezing - wrap up warm!
  19. That takes ungentlemanly conduct to a whole new level!
  20. Looking forward to this game - local fixture for me and I've been invited to hospitality. I'm in the Jackie Husband Stand so will try to get some photos of any displays. Got a few Thistle supporting mates and has been mentioned, they seem to be playing reasonably without scoring enough goals. At Fir Park we struggled to cope with their overlapping full backs and we've not done very well at helping our full backs this season - that seems to have improved recently which could be important. They don't seem to be the biggest team so we could have some opportunities from set-pieces. I really don't know how the score will go but it's a great chance to open up a slight gap - here's hoping.
  21. To be fair, I think most of us expected a Dons win as well. He's nowhere near as biased as he used to be and can be pretty scathing of them at times. I think as experiences as manager and football director help him appreciate how well we've done on a budget and I've heard him give similar praise to ICT. Great win and fantastic 3 points. Haven't seen the goal yet but it sounds like the type of move Reynolds is usually there to step in for.
  22. There's also now the car park at Peacock Cross off Wellhall Road. Not much of a walk down Burnbank Road to the tunnel that brings you out at the main stand.
  23. I'm pretty sure they both have signs up saying you can't park for more than a certain time. Morrison's may be 2 hours as it's close to the ground but I think Sainsbury's is 4 hours as they're trying to deter train traffic. The county buildings' car park is normally open for weekend parking (opposite the bingo). Or seeing as we're in the main stand, you could try parking off Burnbank Road and walk through the tunnel.

Was he not very highly rated and expected to be the next big thing? I'm sure he was on the bench a few times while still very young (and may even have made some short appearances). What happened - did he go off the rails?
  25. They also don't have two massive teams within a 30 minute drive who attract huge amounts of fans from the area.
