  1. It's closer than the other two at peacock cross but a dive and very much a Celtic pub although an Accies bus also runs from there. I don't think we'd be too welcome!
  2. Or Tap Room or Bar West (Tassie) at Peacock Cross - probably not much in it.
  3. I like to make a day of it for away games in the cup, particularly for the third (now fourth) round. I wasn't sure about a trip to Coatbridge but Hamilton is a lot easier to get to from Motherwell with a few decent pubs around - looking forward to it.
  4. While we're not financial heavyweights, Albion Rovers operate on a hand to mouth basis. They had about a grand in their account at the end of the last financial year - an increase of £5k would be massive for them.
  5. I'm pretty sure we sold our allocation for cup games at Stranraer and Dundee United but generally folk will get a ticket. However, if it's at Cliftonhill not everyone will.
  6. I'm not so sure it will get moved. We took around 1000 - 1100 to Livingston for the league cup and would probably take a few more on a Saturday, say 1500. Rovers would have 200 - 300 giving a crowd of probably just under 2000. Play it at Coatbridge and Rovers would attract more home supporters with us taking whatever is left giving the 1200 - 1300 capacity. Is it really worth moving when the additional revenue would probably just go to Livingston? Not quite the cup day out I was hoping for but I might manage to work something out!
  7. I went for Ramsden due to his crossing, particularly in the first half, and generally being less wasteful than everyone else. However I was sitting in the back row and didn't really make out the details of Neilsen's debacle and have no desire to go looking for the tv coverage.
  8. They do seem to go for in-depth interviews, normally with someone behind the scenes, to show how the club operates. I've been quite impressed - it's certainly better than pundits talking forever about the least wee thing to kill time.
  9. I'll probably be one of those heid-the-baws! Missed a few games recently for a variety of reasons and will miss Hibs so I need my fix. I just hope we show a bit more than the end of last season.
  10. Other than the Celtic game I think Hollis has done better than expected with some really good saves to keep us in games or win points. He doesn't have the commanding presence of Randolph but we knew that. Neilsen doesn't seem to have it either and in the few times I've seen him I've not seen anything to suggest he's much better. Neilsen may well be first choice keeper by the end of the season but I don't think Hollis deserves to be dropped yet.
  11. I'd only be concerned if Croatia have a flying machine on the wing as it's a big pitch and Hammell could be left exposed. Otherwise he should fit in better than a fit Wallace as his passing and ball retention are much better from what I've seen.
  12. Even in those days most of our wins against them were at home. We did have some away wins but relatively few and that's why they stand out. I was there that afternoon and it was incredible but it also went a long way to saving us from a relegation play- off. I'd love us to beating the Old Firm (well, Celtic these days) and be playing for European places but I know which I'd go for if it came down to it.
  13. McCall said before the game that Anier was injured and the most we would get out of him would be the last twenty minutes so it wasn't a tactical decision to wait until that stage in the game
  14. Sieb was coming for every ball they put in to the box to the extent there were a few he was struggling to stay in the box when he landed. There was a group of us headed off on a stag do straight from the game - quite a day!
  15. Aberdeen needed to agree to any price cuts and would have known this will affect their cut of season ticket money so fair play to them.
  16. What happened with that? How did everyone get home? Any truth in the vandalism announcement?
  17. To be fair to Mensing, I saw him play for Raith at Firhill near the end of last season when Thistle could have won the league and he was the stand-out player in the game. He does seem to save special efforts for games against us.
  18. My wife's boss goes to St. Mirren with her family and said "I've never seen anything like it - they were all clapping at the same time and singing"! She also said she'd never seen as many police and couldn't work out why.
  19. I generally go in the upper tier at Tannadice and don't mind paying the extra pound or two as its the best view in the league for an away support but I understand not everyone wants to / can afford to pay more. Should still be able to get a good atmosphere going though if everyone is in the same area.
  20. The club can't come out and defend them though because of the smoke bombs. If they hadn't been set off then I'd like to think they would speak out against heavy handed policing but they can't say anything as an offence has been committed.
  21. I know the offence is to take them into the ground but I think throwing them seems worse and would be seen by the police as an escalation which they would use to justify their actions. I didn't see any get thrown but the claim was made and I was trying to establish the facts. I counted 4 smoke bombs, all within clearly identifiable sections of the crowd. There could only have been a maximum of four perpetrators in these obvious positions so why surround an entire section of the stand? Or were they so inept from the start that they couldn't home in on their likely suspects and needed to call in support in ridiculous and confrontational numbers? More police were arriving in two's and three's from the entrance in front of me throughout the second half to the extent they were milling about below at the end as they had nowhere to go. Mental.
  22. Were any smoke bombs actually thrown? A few were set off in the crowd and some streamers / till rolls were thrown on the park but I didn't see any smoke bombs get thrown.
  23. I've been to games where it's obvious there's sections of the crowd looking for trouble but today was not one of them yet the police took the decision to bring in reinforcements as the second half went on and take a very confrontational approach which could well have caused problems with a more aggressive crowd. Yes, they're entitled to take action against anyone letting off smoke bombs but they decided to surround an entire section of the stand as they obviously didn't have a clue who to go for. I counted four smoke bombs being let off which led to them bringing in huge numbers of police for a group of supporters who were otherwise singing and enjoying themselves and not in an aggressive manner. Even the section of the stand I was sitting in behind the goals had loads of stoney faced police below the stand as we left. I hope there were no genuine emergencies in Paisley as all the police were in our stand - it must have been costing St. Mirren a fortune. Supposedly Chick Young reported the game was held up for two minutes due to the ref removing flares. He did briefly delay a corner as he picked up the inserts from till rolls which were used as streamers before the game started. Sensationalist reporting like that doesn't help anyone but Mr. Young has previous for exaggerating or even making up incidents involving our support.
  24. I don't make it to many away games days but went today and enjoyed the game. It was a bit of a strange game though - there were spells for both teams where there was some quality play and possession and also spells where both teams played as though they'd never kicked a ball before with everything being mis-hit. St. Mirren were let down by their final ball and decision making up front, particularly in the first half when they came onto a game and had a lot of good possession with out really troubling Hollis. Our goal was a bit against the run of play and difficult to see the reason for the delayed reaction -couldn't tell if it was nearly saved and crept over or if it was just we needed Sutton to get up and celebrate to know we had definitely scored. We should have put the game away in the second half with a run of good chances. Anier in particular just needed to lift the ball slightly to get it over the goalie's foot. Bob McHugh was very unlucky not to get a well hit shot on target and Hutch hit the bar with a header he tried to place into the top corner. A nervy finish but I thought we deserved it for creating the better chances. I actually thought they should have had a penalty and would need to see it on TV. Although Lasley started his challenge outside the box, he continued to slide into the box and I thought the St. Mirren player had evaded the challenge before finally being caught by Lasley's toe when he had got into the box. Hard fought 3 points and an enjoyable game for me. I also thought Hammell showed his experience in adapting well to the right back position and Angol played well at left back and still managed to put in some good crosses including the one he hung up for Sutton.
  25. At times Lasley, Carswelland Vigurs had great midfield possession and assured touches although Vigur's decision making going forward let him down at times. Lasley probably just shaded by Carswell for me. He was everywhere again and really supported Hammell well.
