  1. It was great to stop at Auchterarder as some have mentioned. I mind as well the BBC on a Saturday morning when the sports program started and they had those circles with football, horse racing etc. and the live typewriter with the scores as they came in that stopped like Dundee 1 Motherwell....took ages it seemed and that was the "internet" those days.

Ian Archer's Herald report of our 3-2 cup win against Celtic at FP when Pettigrew scored from the byline.

Roger Hynd's era when they handed out whisky to fans before our cup game against some lower opposition (QP or QOS) and we lost.

Seeing the floodlights in the distance from the bus from Newarthill.

Getting home soaked and miserable but stopping for chips at the cafe on the way home and all I could think of was the next game....

  2. Are you joking? We get the utter utter piss ripped out of us constantly, and all in the name of us being "supporters".

We give WAY more than we should for what we get, to the point where we are actually mental for doing it. I think the main thing thats coming to the fore in this slump, is that more and more people are realising that if this was any other business or product, trading standards would have to open a dedicated department, and the small claims court would have to run 24hrs.

It's NOT time for us to live up to our name as supporters. It's time to be treated like the supporters we are.

Spot on. It's time for the Club to start living up to it's name as an SPL team. Supporters deserve a far better product than is being sold to us and fans are beginning to see that and are not prepared to pay, pay and pay over and over again for an inferior product.

  3. I think people are absolutely right to be angry at today's non-performance. I can think of many players from the 70's through to today who played for the shirt every single game, many of them home grown talent. If we as a club believe that we are SPL material then we better start showing it because right now we are 1st division material and no better than that. Don't mind getting beat but to show no commitment, no drive, hardly a shot on goal etc. etc. is absolutely not good enough. Used to watch for the team coming out the tunnel with tremendous enthusiasm because you knew that the team would give their all and sadly today that is lacking.

Will always be a Motherwell supporter, forever, but I will not sit back and lightly accept such performances as was witnessed today. So, MFC players and management staff do NOT embarrass our club like that EVER again.

Oh and here we go: "Stuart McCall says his side must dismiss the 6-0 thrashing by Rangers and look to what he considers a more important game with Aberdeen."

A bit much asking us to "dismiss" this dreadful performance don't you think?

  4. Why should we ever expect to win, we have punched above our weight for years, football is so entertaining under McCall and John Boyle is keeping the club going. How dare anyone criticise a manager after this short spell when we are playing such lovely football and getting beat every week and how dare we criticise seasoned profesionals for not giving a fuck!!!

There is no fight in the team and no togetherness - you can quite clearly see that. All that together with the fact that McCalls tactics are shite. This is not a knee jerk reaction from me - I had come to that conclusion after watching a heartless and gutless performance at Tannadice that McCall ain't got it. Not one lesson has been learned from that night.

    Correct.

I find it funny that the ones putting themselves forward as the rational thinkers are the ones who think this is all ok. At what point does pride in your team kick in when you say a 6-0 defeat at Ibrox is totally unacceptable!!

Motherwell are an SPL side. Had Stranraer lost 6-0 today at Ibrox in the Scottish Cup they would be embarrassed. The thing is though they probably would not have lost by 6 because they would have been playing with some pride.

I'm all for supporting your team but at what point do you begin to question what is happening. 7-0, 8-0, 9-0?

    Correct.

Remember too we are supposed to be attracting people to go to Fir Park.

  5. Doesn't matter who the manager is, we will always get pumped at Ibrox. Can't believe McCall is getting the blame for this on here. We have to give McCall time, not just a few games to build up a team. Never seen anyone wanting Butcher sacked for getting pumped everytime we played the Hunz.

But if we are good enough for the SPL we ought to be able to compete. It's not just today's game, McCall's record is pretty poor over the short term.

  6. Well that's enough for me ,could be a big big score today. Stuart McCall has done absolutely hee haw since he arrived ,and I for one ain't to confident that hes going to get any better. Has any Motherwell manager got of to a worse start. Bobby Watson perhaps ?

Have to agree Jim. McCall was never on the radar initially and other far more experienced people I understand, turned the job down. I think if Brown had still been in charge our recent results would have been better. McCall does not impress me and time will tell.

  7. Remember a lot of the things people have just discussed above. My experiences:

The very first home game of the season, walking up the "hill" and seeing the beautiful grass and white lines on the pitch

The stanchions having been painted in amber

Being in the East stand, looking at the tunnel for the first glimpse of our heroes in Claret and Amber

    Getting a lift-over the turnstiles

On the school bus going to Hamilton and watching for players cars going to training. My hero of the time was Bobby Graham and I knew the make and model of his vehicle and was so chuffed to see him pass sometimes

Waiting in Newarthill for the Central bus to Tynescastle and it didn't stop......... went home and cried my eyes out to my dog who was happy to see me

The East stand atmosphere with rival fans separated before the fence

Young boys in the East stand doing a kop thing when we were close to scoring

Going to that store in Motherwell - Forsyths? (albeit was a mens' store) and buying a claret scarf with little logos of the fir tree on it, twas a class scarf

  8. After the romance of the Scottish Cup, it's back to league business on Saturday against Rangers.

With Aberdeen away to St Johnstone, anything but a St Johnstone win would suit me just fine, as I doubt we'll get anything from Ibrox.

If Aberdeen pull off a win here though, then they go into the game with us at Pittodrie looking for a win to jump above us into 8th, which will see us slide into 9th.

Does anyone see us taking something from the game at Ibrox? And what do we think the line-up will be?

It doesn't look as though Casagolda is going to get the run in the team that he really needs, so the forward line will come down to the Jeffers factor. If he has signed up and is ready to play, who does he replace if he starts?

I have a feeling it'll be Murphy that gets dropped, which is a terrible move in my opinion. The young lad is starting to get some games under his belt, and needs time to improve. I'm not a fan of Jeffers signing for the club, and definately don't want to see him replace one of our most promising youngsters.

Unless he plays and scores at Ibrox to nick us a point, in which case he'll be a hero and a masterstroke pulled off by McCall

I think we played very well at Ibrox in the cup but against a Rangers team that never got into top gear, and that is important. I think Rangers will be a completely different team this time. As for Murphy, he has played great until recently, maybe even since Brown left, so I am not sure what the forward line should be. However, Casagolda (even with more time last game) hasn't done anything particular for a Madonna, so I think he is really a Cinderella. I would play Murphy and Jeffers up front, we have to try something new and that's why we signed this Jeffers guy I guess.

  9. I've been a Motherwell supporter for over 40 years, I remember breaking my heart crying when we got relegated in 1968, shedding further tears a wee while later when we sold Dixie to Celtic. I hadn't exactly ran out of tears by the time the dark days of the 1980's hit us but I was old enough to keep them at bay with several pints of heavy.

It's been a hell of a ride with relegations, a Cup win, administration, European football, all interspersed with some great football from some terrific players. It certainly hasn't been dull.

I can tell you this though, in all those years I have never been as depressed about the state of the club as I have been for the past few weeks.

I understand what you are saying. Having been there myself over the darkest of times and the best of times, this

season came to a shuddering halt when Brown/Knox left so completely out of the blue. I am not sure exactly now when they left, approximately December 10th, 2010 and since then:

So that's 3 Wins, 2 draws and 7 losses. Not sure what to make of the statistics.

  10. I said this in a different thread, but if there are a few hundred flares and smoke bombs going off, it can look quite impressive. If there are one or two going off, it just looks like a couple of weans with a banger.

    Definitely not cool.

weeyin, you are absolutely right. :(

  11. We'll see what happens I guess, but gone are the days we signed players like Bobby Graham, Peter Marinello, Vic Davidson etc. for likely small sums of money who all turned out to play for the shirt and achieved great status at Motherwell. I think those days have gone when we are signing players like the unknown Casagolda and Jeffers, whose record is posted above.
