I tend to agree with Frazzle, that Hateley and Jennings shouldn't be on that list. I'd also question the other four I have in bold. If you mean your favourite 20 players rather then the top 20, then you can have any players you like...

The team at the moment are doing magnificently well, but to have the bottom two in that list makes me think you might be on crack.

Seek help.

Think you could make a case for Jennings, but Hateley for as solid as he's been this season, he is nowhere near a top 20 'well players that I've seen over the last 25 years.

Randolph

Boyd

Martin

McCart

McKinnon

Lambert

O'Donnell

Jennings

Cooper

McFadden

Coyne

subs; Maxwell,Corrigan, Hammell, O'Neil,Davies, Kirk, McCormick, McDonald, Arnott

That squad would win the league....

yAlways think thats a tough one as you are kind of limited to the players you have had the privelege of actually seeing.

No doubt players like

George Stevenston

Willie McFadyen

Hughie Ferguson

Wilson Humphries

Willie Redpath

Bobby Ferrier

Charlie Aitken

Andy Paton

Ian St John

deserve their place in history

a no bad team from the greatest players I have actually seen would be

Sieb Dykstra

Luc Nijholt

Chris McCart

Brian Martin

Joe Wark

Bobby Russell

Paul Lambert

Colin O'Neill

Davy Cooper

Bobby Graham

Wullie Pettigrew

Subs

Ally Maxwell

Stevie Hammell

Fraser Wishart

James McFadden

Tommy Coyne

Dougie Arnott

Phil O'Donnell

Brian McClair (2nd stint excluded!)

Johnny Gahagan

can always argue that a lot of the players listed didnt play their best football at Fir Park, however I think the ones I have listed all made a lasting impact.

Unfortunately, at the moment, only Stevie Hammell would do this and thats mainly due to number of appearances and consistency in a time where such qualities are so rare.

Instead of a Top 20 which is too hard to pick I'll pick an A team, my first picks, and a B team, my second picks. Also, only picked players I saw in person (ie from '86 on)

Team A

1. Darren Randolph

2. Luc Nijholt

3. Rob McKinnon

4. Brian Martin

5. Mitchell van der Gaag

6. Paul Lambert

7. James McFadden

8. Phil O'Donnell

9. Tommy Coyne

10. Dougie Arnott

11. Davie Cooper

Team B

1. Sieb Dykstra

2. Martyn Corrigan

3. Tom Boyd

4. Miodrag Krivokapic

5. Chris McCart

6. Jamie Dolan

7. Bobby Russell

8. Steve Kirk

9. Scott McDonald

10. Owen Coyle

11. Johnny Gahagan

That B team would do some damage, never mind your A team!

We really were spoiled late 80's / early 90's!

We were pretty spolied in the mid 70's as well.

Can't believe Vic Davidson isn't on anyones list. One of the most gifted players ever to play for 'Well. He walzed past people like they weren't there. Much ammo for Pettigrew/Graham came from the boots of wee Vic.

I am but a child compared to those who saw Pettigrew, Graham etc.

McFadden is probably the best I've ever seen at Motherwell. Even though he was a temperamental wean, for every time he'd mouth off and get booked he'd produce some moments of absolute 100% brilliance.

Also, Jim Paterson. I loved big Jim. Stepover daft, so he was.

***Those of you with no understanding of a sense of humour: Yes I know Paterson isn't one of the greatest ever Motherwell players, but I'm being a bit tongue-in-cheek here.***

I love these lists as they always causes arguments and there are always some stranges choices.

All the usual names from the team that won the league in the 30's to the team that won league and scottish cups in the 50's are worth consideration but long before my time and not really sure who was the best from each team. The key players that made the team tick. A good few from the Ancell babes era would in the list, not to mention your Wark and Pettigrew's and you could probably have 20 names before the modern era easily.

My first game watching Motherwell was in 86 so from that time onwards the players I think worth arguing a case for would be

Bobby Russell

Tom Boyd

Davie Cooper

Luc Niholt

Dougie Arnott

Tommy Coyne

Phil O'Donnell

Paul Lambert

Colin O'Neil

Miodrag Krivokapic

Ally Maxwell

Sieb Dykstra

Brian Martin

Rab McKinnon

James McFadden

Scott McDonald

Ross McCormack

Stephen Hughes

Martyn Corrigan

More or less trying to pick from throughout all my time watchign the game. I suspect I'd quickly edit out a few like Hughes and McCormack for only doing the business over quite a short period. Likewise I didn't put in likes of Brannan and Spencer. Good players but did it all to rarely and tainted by the huge money they were on.

Of the players I have seen, my picks is exactly identical to Ya Beezers A team.

Of the current squad, as good as they are, only Randolph would get in my best Motherwell team.

Opinions will always differ, but I reckon Randolph is better than Maxwell, Sieb, Ruddy, and Goram (Gorams years with us).

Our next best current player (IMO) is Hutchy, and at the moment he wouldn't get a sniff infront of Brian Martin and Mitchell Van Der Gaag!

Few strange choices in there & strangest would have to be Jamie Dolan but each to their own. Give me a team of 20 Tommy Coynes & id be well happy.

Jamie Dolan was certainly a fans favourite and probably one of the first names on the teamsheet during his time I would wager. Would run through brick walls for the cause. Not in my top 20 players but worthy of a mention.
