Im sorry man,a lot of what you say is bang on but I just cannot see where he holds the midfield together, all too often teams run thro our midfield as if it werent there.

We do miss him when he is not playing, but that says more about our horribly unbalanced squad than Las's ability. Generally when he is missing we change formation as CM has been neglected by numerous managers now.

Spot on Shaka. In the past 2/3 years our midfield has been lightweight and all too often brushed aside easily by other teams. In the late stages of games its disappeared altogether. Opponents have been given time and space on the edge of our box as we retreated deep into the danger zone. That has cost us a good few goals. Now part of that is down to tactics I admit. Keith Lasley is by no means responsible for all of that but by the same token, as captain and a crucial part of the central midfield we can't say that it was nothing to do with him.

As you say we have missed him when he wasn't available but that does reflect our lack of alternative choices. Stuart McCall and Ian Baraclough did neglect the central midfield and now Mark McGhee is having to rectify that and quickly. Whether Morgaro Gomis is the solution I have my doubts but his loan signing has flagged up McGhee's thoughts on our engine room.

Get the team chock full of 9's and 10's again and we'll be there or thereabouts.

Peter "the next George Best" Marinello was the only 10 that played at Fir Park. Combining his celebrity lifestyle with heavy drinking in a career shortening way that guys like Lasley and Sutton can only dream of.

Dave, you have been slating Lasley on various forums since before the guy ha been taught to shave. You must be delighted he's lost a yard of pace so you can justify your ramblings. Unfortunately for the credibility of your argument, in the interim period he has led us to Europe and Hampden countless times and generally captained the side during arguably the most successful period in the clubs history. And he's managed to do it all while developing into a rugged, sexy beast of a man. You're correct that everyone loves him, but there's many good reasons for it. And even as he approaches retirement, he'd still walk into most teams in the country.

You are forgetting Pettigrew and Jeffers who were lookers!!!! But Aberdeen are the ugliest team in the SPL and they are doing not too badly. We need mingers likes Hayes.
