Their other signings are either starting or on the bench. Hopefully he gets sorted soon. Possibly like us their Govt has to issue a waiver given the Brexit shambles? mio
Rumour mill going mad about Max Johnston going to Derby for £1.5m, also Celtic now interested due to their Canadian fullback potentially out a while. a derby contact said the deal was getting agreed and that Motherwell were getting 15% add on?? A few folk replied to the guy saying that he was out of contract so Motherwell wouldn’t be entitled to anything (that was my take as well) however this person seems in the know and said Motherwell had concluded a deal prior to his contact expiring and Sturm Graz signed up to it to guarantee his signature. if that’s the case someone at Motherwell needs a gold medal. Kmcalpin
15% of what? The total fee or the total fee minus what Sturm Graz paid us. In David Turnbull's case we received nought from Celtic in an add on as they didn't make a profit on him.

I don’t think the capital gains style thing your talking about applies to add on deals? I suppose we’ll fine out when the accounts go in. mio
Maybe I was wrong? Just saw this? #There’s no confirmation from any official source that Motherwell received any money from Cardiff related to Turnbull’s departure Not sure what the score would be then for Johnston? Just seemed weird that Derby people were going on about fees due to Motherwell.
Mad Dog
I'm really hoping that this is all just shite. The boy surely has greater ambitions than Derby County - offence absolutely and fully intended.

When a young player is out of contract, my understanding is the two clubs can still make a deal e.g. waive the compensation fee due, and take a future cut of transfers instead. The UEFA calculation only comes into play if no agreement is reached. (Although I could be wrong, because I don't really keep up to date with all those rules) Agree about Derby County, though. Seems like a step backwards.

Just seemed weird that Derby people were going on about fees due to Motherwell. Even if Motherwell did not agree a deal with Sturm Graz we are due something if he switches countries. Because we coached him from 12 to 19. Applies to every cross border move he makes from now on regardless of age. It does not add up to much though. Although it would do me! 5% of transfer fee is deducted and split between those parent clubs that coached a player age 12 to age 21. So for £2m.... (£1.4m and £1.6m turned down previously but guess now SG out of Champions League they are needing to sell).....seven ninths (years coached) of £100k (5%) = just under £78k. However if that 15% is accurate as having been agreed then if fee is £2m we are due £300k. Everything I read at the time said MJ left us as out of contract with no deal agreed. But Motherwell are good at keeping things confidential so fingers crossed.
