Ballso
To put this into context, Nationwide recently agreed a deal to buy Virgin Money. I'm pretty sure it will have been their executive board, or a firm contracted by them who will have led negotiations before taking a deal back to the wider board for approval. All that happens before VM shareholders will have known anything about it. This suggests that the way our situation is being handled is not unusual

Tamwell
Reading through this thread, I totally understand the concerns about what’s came out today. for a bit of background, I used to post on here a lot in the wtfc days, and I’m more of an admirer from afar these days. I’m a season ticket holder in the East stand and I’ve supported Motherwell for many years: first game in 1989 but I’m shite at maths, so that many years. not that it matters. All fans should have an opinion on this, whether your favourite player was Cooper, McFadden, Higdon or Moult, even Bair, we all have a say. Thats the beauty of a fan owned club, ok, we don’t have the full details just now, but we will when the time comes. Any Motherwell fans who are not members of the Well Society, make sure to sign up now, this is the only way your voice will be heard. The future of our club is at stake here. I’m quite concerned by how many fans think the fan owned model isn’t working. Please do your due diligence, we’re in a decent position right now.

steelboy
I can't read the article because of the paywall but i'm sure Stephen McGowan is the journalist who Les Hutchinson seemed to talk to a lot back when he was doing his takeover. Doesn't appear to have any sporting interests in his past that you can find online so maybe you're on the right track with a media angle. Would like a swatch at the contacts on his phone, Hollywood's elite no doubt.

The only name I recognised from his productions on IMDb was Paul Higgins from Wishy, who played the - funnily enough - Motherwell born, Al Jolson fan sidekick of Malcolm Tucker in The Thick of It. Mibbe he told him to invest or he'd remove his iPod from its tiny nano-sheath and shove it....

Can't be arsed copying but well worth a read and explains where his interest in football comes from.

steelboy
People seem to be very excited about the connection to a household name brand in Netflix when he hasn't actually worked there for a number of years. There is definitely a PR campaign running in the background here with the emphasis on the bid coming from a 'family' which always has positive associations rather than say 'producer of straight to TV movies'.

Don't think anyone's excited per se, more curious than anything and the fact that he has an interest in football and seems to be reasonably well off with good connections makes the proposal a bit more interesting than some random who knows nothing about the game. As always the devil's in the detail and I'll reserve judgement until that becomes clearer.
