Kmcalpin
Anyone heard anything recently about Alan Campbell? It seems that he's yet to make an impact in Paisley. Presumably working hard to get fit.

Over at P&B today someone mentioned he's one of Robinson"s trusted Motherwell players (along with Liam Donnelly) that he looks to help change a game - and has offered absolutely nothing so far. A few other quotes: Quote As for Campbell, I can only assume he is either physically broken or just doesn’t want to be here as for all his chat in the papers about being fit and clearly having some talent, he is one of many passengers in this squad. Quote We need to ask why our recruitment has been so bad with a couple of exceptions. We could have brought in a couple of championship players who would have ran through walls to be in the SPL. We sign crocks and players with no fight. I.e Campbell. Quote ...all we did was bring in Campbell. Why? as he’s not anywhere near ready Quote The Jan transfer for Campbell seemed a good shout - free and played a position we desperately needed to fill But WTF - 6 weeks later and it's been another complete cluster f**k Something has gone badly wrong over the past few seasons. I can only think that one of his injuries has left him unable to get back to his previous levels. Either that, or he is so disillusioned with fitba his head just isnt in it anymore. Sad. Kmcalpin
There's certainly something wrong with him. A real shame though as he alwyas had a great attitude even when he wasn't playing well.
thewelllfan
I think the issue for Campbell has been he's barley played for the last 3 years he went from playing every game for us and Luton to sitting on various benches and his development stalled even when he's getting an oppertunity he's clearly not match fit. I reckon he's the sort of guy that will rock up at Thistle should they get promoted and return to form.

Robinson's club interview after the game yesterday was mainly about the lack of effort and/or fitness in relation to the players who are not getting a game, despite St Mirren's form. Same stuff we all know - January signings are only about bringing in bodies with potential, because they can't afford to buy players who have actually been playing somewhere, even if that was English non-league. Campbell desperately needs someone to show some faith, keep him on beyond the summer and put him through a proper pre-season. There's surely still a player in there, but these short term deals, where his contribution is (unsurprisingly) almost zero, are killing his career.

If Campbell is to be believed, he said he he received offers in Scotland, England and Europe, but still trying to make the "right decision". Whether he was badly advised, or he made the wrong decisions, by not accepting one of those offers during the summer, he's set himself back another season.

Aye, he wouldn't be the first to sabotage his own career.
weeyin
Matty Connelly extends his contract until the end of the 2026/27 season, with the club holding the option of a further year.

I suppose it depends on whether he thinks Connelly will be better served with more loans to get game time or sitting on the bench as a backup. thewelllfan
Connelly has been given a deal to fill 1 of our homegrown spots on the basis that we qualify for Europe next season. Ox will most likely move on in the summer as he's the 3rd choice GK but on a 1st choice wage.

Ox is a solid keeper, he's just fallen victim to the new manager/new way of playing curse that can happen to players. Hopefully if he does move on he finds more game time. I guess that isnt the case? They usually have the top home attendance in Australia, averaging around 15,000. Their new stadium, which they share with a couple of rugby teams, holds about 42,000 - not sure where they’re playing in that video, but it’s not that one. (Auckland who play in the same league have had slightly higher attendances in recent years, but they’re in NZ of course.)

Some goalies find that alien to them.
fizoxy
I believe an important quality for a goalkeeper is the ability to not break your hand multiple times.
