Unless we get some proper defenders in, it's going to be a long season.ย ย

Balmer Gordon and ODonnell are so called experienced pros, but struggled against part time boys.ย

The fans should be reimbursed because that was not a game of professional football in that second half. You would be lucky if 15 mins of that was in play.

Hot day on a plastic pitch was always going to be a difficult watch.

Yip, I went there today expecting exactly this. And boy was that delivered.

Should be good to see the next game though as it should hopefully show us as fans, how the manager saw that game and what changes he makes.

As long as I can see a steady improvement in each of these league cup games, Iโ€™ll be ok with that.

But yes today was a tough watch. I donโ€™t want to now comment on who I thought was rotten (there were a few) as Iโ€™ll be accused of being a panty wetter. lolย

Aye if this wasn't a eye opener about our defence then I don't know what is I really don't know what the answer is cause most of them will be playing alot of football for us next season.

Maybe a defensive coach?Who knows.

I've read our new manager has a reputation for being a good defensive coach, but still think he needs better defenders to work with.

The manager was the defensive coach at Copenhagen before joining us, and was a centre half, so if he canโ€™t sort it, nobody can. Letโ€™s see how things go when itโ€™s not 30 degrees on plastic. Not a great start, but still really early days.

I can see Ward getting lobbed a few times if he plays that high up the pitch.ย

That's how the new manager wants us to play, so it's a risk regardless of who is in goals.

Less of a risk if we don't scuff a pass straight to an opposition striker, right enough.

You can say what you like about Halliday, but he can certainly be trusted with a penalty. ๐Ÿ˜„

As much as i struggle to warm to Halliday, I have no doubts that heโ€™s a good football player. I actually think heโ€™d be excellent as an old style sweeper behind a good centre half. The issue is, we need to find a good centre half.

Good following today and a right few roasters among them, pulled one up for trying to wreck a seat, spent about 15 mins punching and throwing a ball about which could easily smacked ofย  an elderly person not bothering a fuck about game, same later when it was 2 each.then there was the masked twat with the flare.

Well if he can't see the defensive issues and sort it then we are pretty much screwed then lol.

I agree JBA tells it how it is I like his no nonsense speaking.

Yep. He is very balanced...today reminded me why I don't to many away gamesย  , so many people losing their shit.ย

It wasn't great but I could see signs especially in first half , how he wants us to play, full backs getting well up pitch. Slatts should have won it at end but in general he's a top player so cut him some slack.

On another note. It's embarrassing to see folk manhandling stewards who are trying to do their job, although not sure trying to " lift" a guy for letting off a flare is worth it. Most of them couldn't fight sleep but I wouldn't be wading in for minimum wages.

Also the older guy on the way out who called the young female steward aย  :"fuckin cow", have a look at yourself ...I know it's hot and drink has been taken but if that was your daughter....anyway like I say I don't go the away games much so don't usually come across the seedier stuff.

First game of the season, very hot weather, a pitch that is shite at the best of times and was even worse today, all these things pointed to it being a difficult opener and it was.

I thought going forward we were alright all things considered, hardly scintillating but taking the above into consideration, OK. ย

Defensively we were a shambles. ย Clyde played right through the middle of us about three times in the first half. ย No one looked comfortable playing out from the back, poor passing was standard and the sweeper keeper thing which I assume came from the manager looked like it was going to cost us and it did.

Can't really judge any of the new guys at this stage but I thought Fadinger looked OK in the first half. ย O'Donnell is still gash and Stamatopoulos looks like the most fragile Australian of all time and you can see why he didn't take up Aussie Rules.

Clyde hit the post, we probably should have scored at least one more and Maswanhise was the stand out.

O'Donnell needs replaced ASAP and I think there are some big question marks over the likes of Balmer and Koutroumbis. ย Out of that back 4 and keeper the only one I think is viable over the season is Gordon.

The " sweeper keeper" thing is hoing to be risk and reward...obviously today we got caught out but he's one of better players and wouldn't expect that to happen often.ย

2 pay at the gate turnstiles open todayโ€ฆ. Finally some common sense. Will head down and pay at the gate at 2.50โ€ฆ.. oh the nostalgia

No need to pay at all.

Just print off some random QR code show it to the guy at the barrier and he'll wave you through!

I think this is one of those times where continental managers come in and assume players at a top league level can actually control, pass the ball and play out from the back.

He's going to find out they can't.

For ultras once they got their 'fuck the police' chant out the way early and played with their ball they hardly made any noise at all.

A good assessment from JBA there. Accepts that it wasnโ€™t good enough and didnโ€™t win but very balanced and states that we have to go and win on Tuesday.ย

He certainly speaks well.ย

Motherwell are the absolute masters of the let down. I've rarely seen so many Motherwell fans genuinely excited going into a game. Big crowd , enthusiasm from the stands and we fail to deliver yet again. However I'll not get too wound up, it was the first game and absolutely brutal playing conditions. I swear one day we will put on a performance when the fans turn out in numbers.
