Cant believe more folk dont have Tommy Coyne in their teams!!!!!!!

I loved that guy, had zero pace but was a fantastic footballer.

Id also put Rab Mckinnon against any of our left backs, again, he was fantastic in my eyes.

Also, Randolph for me is the best keeper we have had

Everyone is entitled to their choice but what was your opinion of Willie Pettigrew?

This is part of the problem with these 'all time best team' things. I know I'm old (and there are a few older than me) so, for example, i'd have probably three keepers, Joe Wark, Tom Boyd and Rab McKinnon all at left back. I'd have at least two right backs, six central defenders, nine in midfield and about six centre forwards. If you try to bring it down to eleven, then great players have to get left out.

Ah  that explains your view. I've seen both Coyne and Pettigrew play and I'd pick the latter every time although Coyne was a great striker. Would Pettigrew make my best ever 11? No. He wouldn't even make the bench. That's no slight on him, just a reflection of the quality of the competition. We have had some world class players down the years.

We have had some truly great players down the years , depends the era

If it is goalies Ruddy , Randolph , Maxwell , Goram etc all great keepers but won't bore with too much

Legends like Faddy , Gary Mac , Brian  McClair , Stevie Kirk , wee Dougie Arnott , Tommy Coyne , Pettigrew , The Coop , Uncle Phil the list goes on and on and on. Plenty I have missed out

Martyn Corrigan is a very good shout also , never seen the guy come off the pitch once and thought he never gave 💯 to the team

Depends the era is the thing. Our mid-seventies central defenders and central midfielders have had a few mentions. But none of them would last 10 minutes these days.  On the other hand, imagine Keith MacRae as a modern keeper.

Then you ask if Pettigrew and Coyne could combine. Or was e.g. Henrik Ojamma's purple patch of long enough duration to make him worthy of consideration.

And, as a few folk have mentioned, we have had players whom we have to judge solely on their contribution to Motherwell.

I tried to pick a team, but had 2 goalies, 3 left backs and 6 forwards.

It’s curious that our most valuable player ever doesn’t appear on anyone’s dream team—unless I’ve missed it. Perhaps it takes time before fans fully appreciate players like that in this context.

Totally different times with different valuations. Think of what some of the above players would have been worth in todays market and Miller's valuation wouldn't seem so much.

For me there is only one dream team, in my time supporting  Motherwell

Maxwell,  Nijholt, Boyd, Griffin, Paterson, McCart, Arnott, Angus, Ferguson, O'Donnell  and Cooper. With the super sub himself Stevie Kirk on the bench.

I give you the 91 cup final team.

I agree with that with one change and you won't be surprised that I pick rab mckinnon at left back ahead of the scumbag . He will be the only one out of that team that won't be in the hall of fame.

I'll never forgive woods for that pass straight to Durie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Plus he was utterly shambolic as a keeper!!!!!!!!

As I said above. If you didn't choose Gardiner as worst keeper, the only possible reason is that you never saw him play.

Guys like Hollis and Woods were Randolph-esque compared to him.

For someone labelled as a shite keeper, Stevie woods has had a decent post playing career as goalkeeping coach at Celtic. So maybe hes not as bad as we remember.
