League Cup Semi Motherwell v St Mirren 1/11/2025

it was not our day on Saturday. The first two goals had an element of luck. Others say the ball was moving at the quick free kick. I thought the player who received the ball was offside and the linesman was caught out by it. If the player had gone and scored instead of it going for a corner it would have been reviewed. The corner looked like a mis hit, a St Mirren player deflected it and it landed at a St Mirren players foot. The second goal was a great finish but again the ball was deflected into his path when a Motherwell player stuck out a leg. Two down was always going to be a tough gig.

The managers team selection was wrong. Welsh should have played from the start and the handling of Slattery was all wrong. He changed the game at Livingstone and had a great game v United but should have been subbed off after 70 minutes to ensure he was ready for Saturday.

Watt who has been outstanding played more bad passes on Saturday than he had in the whole season. Fadinger and Said were anonymous. That said maybe that is credit to St Mirren who allowed us to play it around at the back but once the ball was in midfield they chased and harried and got in our faces.

It is now up to JBA to motivate the players and make sure we don't dwell on this. A win at Aberdeen would be great.

It's possible Robinson may get close to record for most cup finals lost without winning one in Scotland. Think it's 4. If Celtic win in December, he would be on 3 losers medals.

2 with us, cant think what other final he got to

Hate to say it but a certain Bevis Mugabe would have won a lot of headers from the goalies kicks and handled the physical threat too. Granted the footwork would be hit and miss but his airiel abilities would have come in handy.

We can question team selection etc all day, but to me, it felt like the magnitude of the occasion really got to the players as a group. We've seen plenty of examples of how 'risk and reward football' can go either way, but if you're too scared to take any risks, the outcome is almost inevitable.

I don't really envy a 4th consecutive cup final v Celtic tbh.

St Mirren likely on a hiding to nothing. 1/5 of the stadium

Their players will no doubt be be getting immediate bookings while Maeda runs around carte-blanche fouling as usual

I'm thinking along similar lines.

Robinson and his squad for me are more streetwise, been kicking around long enough and more accustomed to these types of big events.

I'm a huge fan of our gaffer , squad and everything we're trying to do but I do feel the occasion overwhelmed the team .  Fair play to StMirren they executed their plan ruthlessly.

Overall it became a non event all too quickly and I just hope we can bounce back and put some results together. It could easily become a tipping point , it's essential that we come through the next few games with wins.

I don't envy them either. Think O Neil has galvanised them too. I would have been more confident facing Rogers team.

I think they stand a decent chance to beat Celtic , Celtic are a shadow of the team theyve been in recent years.

St Midden have as much chance of beating Celik in a final at Hampden as we would if we had got there.

That's no chance at all .

I was thinking that as well maybe a few of our fans should think before they speak.

Had we got Celtic in the final Id have been more confident than any other time we faced them in a final. Celtic are a shadow of the team the were and were fortunate to beat a 10 man Rangers team. Sure they will be favourites against St Mirren but St Mirren will not face a weaker Celtic team ever again.

They got rid of the problem last week. They still have top quality players and by the Final date I fully expect them to be back in top form, not that I give a shit tho.

I don't think I would have been looking forward to meeting them in another final and getting humped. Happy to leave that pleasure to the Saints.

The problem is its an uphill task and the whole event is weighted against St Mirren.

From Celtic having their own end and dressing room at an apparently neutral statium.

You will probably also see comments in the press from Celtic spokespersons about St Mirren's approach in the lead up, trying to put the refs under pressure. Maybe less so now Rodgers is away, but its all in the play-book.

We've seen this all first hand against us.
