It may well be that Alfred is well aware of where the problems lay on Sunday and is just protecting the player (a little too late imho).

If that is the case then I would expect to see something very different on Saturday.

If we do, lesson learned, we can move on.

If not and we get another insipid, passive performance with no press and no control of the football, then more questions will arise.

You cant win every game. But here is a way to lose football matches, and going down swinging, playing your way on the front foot is more palatable than what we saw on Sunday.

Just my opinion and certainly wouldn't expect folk to agree but seeing as Jens and our wonderful club were loved by the media, do you think some journos might have an agenda against AJ? we all know recent run not good but funny how john mcglynn not getting hard time despite Falkirk struggling and also buddies were honking at weekend yet no backlash against mcleish.

I could be totally wrong and personally AJ needs to address the issues and hopefully get a great victory on Saturday

Has there been a media backlash against us?

I dont buy newspapers, so no idea what they are saying.

Sportsound was always anti Jens due to him showing their old boys network up.

Halliday and Stewart were always pretty positive, Tom English a bit of a weather vane, the rest not so much.

What journos and pundits would you associate with setting an agenda? I’ve admittedly only heard from McGarry and Halliday and both were spot on imo.

I think the wider media were actually a little lazy with their narrative at the start of the season, getting a little carried away with a fortunate win against Hibs and a Said inspired win against Helsinki.

They were all pro Jens but I just wonder if AJ not going to be as liked.

Tbh pal I think we all overhink when on a bad run.  Ohhhhh how i wish for a massive victory on Saturday

No one in particular pal , just a hunch and could be totally way off mark.  I am in the pro AJ camp and still have confidence in him, though yes results are crucial

Helsinki was great performance from said but also great team performance imo

I just don't know, but both Falkirk and St Mirren are media darlings so its maybe an unfair comparison?

I think there was a lot of resistance amongst the dinosaurs of our Scottish  football world, who resented an outsider showing that our SPL payers could actually  play attractive, attacking, pass-based  football beyond  traditional Scottish  kick-and-rush. It put them to shame basically, so they (e.g. Ian McCall) confected grievances like their pearl-clutching  reaction to Askou's comments on Handley or  MFC's 140 years of relative failure.

Not necessarily a huge  fan  of  M. Stewart but he played straight with us, as did Andy  Halliday, who was frozen out instantly by JBA but could see his methods worked and were quite visionary (for Scotland). Hats off to him.

Don't know what Alfred will achieve here frankly  but he's not JBA so  will have to model the team given his resources and in line with his own  beliefs. He needs until the window to see if he can improve our performances as he adjusts to our league, one which his predecessor couldn't wait to get away from, and for good reason. He's in a foreign country with a wife and young child so I think he needs some slack cut for him at the moment.

Like many MFC fans, I suspect, I'm dismayed but not but not reaching for the malt whisky cabinet yet.

If your giving meagre praise in victory,  hopefully same in defeat?

We win as a team and lose as a team

Which is why they're likely enjoying watching the Motherwell fanbase lose their shit over our current plight less than ten games into the season. It provides an opportunity for them to point and say "Ah, you were lucky last year! JBA is obviously a great manager, and you lot just lucked out in getting him. We were correct though, and the answer is to end this silly 'experiment' with the foreigner who has never played the game and get back to reality!"

Meagre? I would say accurate. The Hibs win was excellent and the winning goal was memorable. We did however ride our luck. Against Helsinki, we were very good for 60 mins but we did require the individual magic of Said to make the breakthrough and clinch the win.

Overall, I would say our performances have ranged from outstanding for the first 25 minutes in Paisley and very impressive against United, to alarm bells ringing against Aberdeen and dreadful versus Celtic and Stenhousemuir.

I think there is merit in a lot of what Star Sail AND Wellfan are saying.

There is no doubt in my mind that our support is no better or worse than other clubs. Football fans in general are fickle and behave in similar tribalistic ways.

However, I think we have to differentiate between considered debate (which I think has been the case for the most part on here) and some of the rampant toxicity you get on other social media platforms, where folks just vent their spleen.

I do worry about the atmosphere at the ground though, as it hasnt taken long for the positivity and big crowds to drift away. The Helsinki game was only a month ago!

I get the whole transition debate and Alfred should 100% be given the time to turn this around and show us what a team in his image is going to look like. But he is going to have to find some improvements quickly.

That mind not mean winning loads of gamed in a swashbuckling style. But it has to show improved performances, more structure, some evidence that the players are taking on board the coaching.

Thats what allowed Jens to get a pretty easy ride over the first couple of months. The naysayers and more vocal element in our support were kept quiet by performances, not results.

Hopefully Alfred can find some of that soon.

Well said pal  :fan:
