Top level players tend not to sign for Motherwell so you may be right. I hope Stamatelopoulos comes good and contributes more to the team, but so far for me I've seen nothing to suggest that will happen.

When a young player is out of contract, my understanding is the two clubs can still make a deal e.g. waive the compensation fee due, and take a future cut of transfers instead. The UEFA calculation only comes into play if no agreement is reached. (Although I could be wrong, because I don't really keep up to date with all those rules) Agree about Derby County, though.
