The pressure of this tie is giving me a haddock!

Even ignoring the parochialism that stands in the way of change, there is also the fact that the Scottish Winter isnt actually reliable. We have no idea from one winter to the next when the bad weather will be. Ive been hill climbing in shirt sleeves in December and knee deep in snow in March. We have a maritime climate and our bad weather (and good weather) is at the mercy of the jetstream. I get the advantages for European Football, and the possibility for greater tv revenue off the back of it, but in a world when the close season is now about 6 weeks, Im not sure moving to Summer football would actually be worth the hassle.

I'm in favour of summer football for most of the reasons you outline. There are a few things I don't know and maybe wouldn't know without further digging and the actual implementation of it. First, how would a March till December league work with the practicality of transfers? We get a mid season window here for a month but imagine one is 3.5 months long which could affect cohesion and momentum. Would we struggle to attract players for three months till mid-December on late August deadline day? Maybe they'd be thrilled at Xmas off and January in Dubai but they also could not be happy at 17 months straight football and no summer holiday, how many League One players would want to join us in mid-May with 50 games already under their belt from August the previous year. Our preseason business would limited to one month only and at a time when the pickings are slimmer than in the summer, from the start of February you can't affect things in any meaningful until mid May. I guess with a number of Northern European leagues already dealing with these there are answers to a lot of this. We're pretty unique in the Uk for a Northern European country that we can't wait to get abroad when we have the best chance of good weather at home. In Scandinavia it's nowhere near the same culture, while not universal they tend to vacation more on shoulders of summer and deep winter. So attendances and revenue may be hit here. Could the shortfall be made up by a better TV deal with Sky and the SPFL having zero competition for UK audiences for 3.5 months every second year. In the year we transition, mid May league finishes .... what do we do until March the following year? There would have to be some sort of mini tournament to keep those teams in Europe ticking over. In WC and Euro years to use this summer as an example, the Scotland squad reported a few days after the final games and were released three weeks ago. Raskin a fortnight ago, when do we go back to a full schedule, FIFA/UEFA have blackouts and player burnout would have to be considered. However, I think the upgrading FP/Move thread has shown, there's a strong reticence to change and breaking the habit of winter attendance, what has always been known/a thing. I'd suggest the majority of Scottish football fans will operate with a hierarchy of how does it affect me, my club, national team, wider society ... all in that order. Beyond that, Scottish football decision makers and administrators have shown it is full of silo builders and the epitome of parochialism. We can't even agree a consensus on colt teams in lower leagues, reserve and U21 football or anything else for kids development that comes from a Henry McLeish report commissioned after a Scotland failure and national moratorium. With so many +65 guys called Hughie in blazers in almost every Scottish football club there is zero chance we can get the numbers required even if presented with a business case that is a slam dunk change and our fortunes. I wish I was confident enough to be able to plaice a sizeable bet on us being able to seal our progression after the first leg. But I cant be the only sole harbouring doubts. Hopefully our new keeper can catch a few. Cod only knows how we will get on in the away leg if he cant keep it out the net! Hopefully, it goes ok as Im sure our recruitment team are continuing to trawl other leagues for new players!

Due to injuries and lack of signings, this tie will be harder than it would otherwise have been. HB are also mid season but have had a few weeks break. However, its possible, maybe even probable, that they'll be without 2 of their better players due to visa problems. After all is said and done however, the Faroese league is a very small pond, albeit they are a large fish in it. I can't see us floundering on Thursday and can see a 2 or 3 goal win.

Given Maswanhise and Longelo are being mentioned as possibly being available for this game but can be nowhere near fit and with other injuries and departures, it's conceivable we could start Thursday's game with only two of last season's first eleven in Said and Fadinger. Although they were in the squad, Priestman, Sparrow and Charles-Cook weren't first picks. Given that and a new manager, this will be more difficult than it might have been. So much so that I think taking any lead to the Faroes would be a fantastic result...

Declan Gallagher joins Airdrie. If ever a club suited a player. He's also assistant manager, which I'm sure will work out an absolute treat given how successful his spells as captain with us and Ross County were.

It's all about getting through so hopefully we have enough over the two legs and we can then be in much better shape in terms of fitness and signings for the next round.

Is this game available for overseas viewers? I have family in Canada asking. They usually watch games via the MotherwellTV subscription.

After Stjarnan and Sligo in particular, I will never take us to be strong favourites in a Euro tie ever again. I think because they are match fit and because we have a fairly makeshift starting 11 at the moment this is a 50/50 game.

We are massive favourites at 1/7 to win 8/1 draw 20/1 for them to win. Given they are 16 games in to their season I thought that was a bit of a leveller but the bookies odds gave me the injection of positivity that I needed

I think the fans are going to play a huge part as we need to get right behind the lads. Should be a great crowd but no idea how ww will line up

I agree that the Pony one (claret with amber candy stripes) was a good one, probably a nod to the C&A striped jerseys we wore for four years (copying Bradford City as usual) before switching to the unique hoop in 1928. Of course, we don't really need the reverse strip at all since we brought out ye olde petrol blue version at the end of last season but it may be a money-spinner as leisure wear.
