I see they are trialing a new rule in England this season to try and prevent "tactical timeouts" where keepers go down with fake injures to disrupt momentum and allow tactical reshuffles. Unlike outfield players who were required to leave the field of play for 1 minute, there was no equivalent for the keepers, and so no consequence to the team. This season, if the game is stopped for a goalkeeper injury, the manager has to nominate an outfield player to leave the field immediately and remain off the field for at least 1 minute after the restart. I like the idea, but not sure if it will work in practice.

Yes, and selectively wrong at times. The funny thing was that when the subtitles on the vid came to Collum's name it appeared as Pierluigi Collina on my feed. As if!

If the loans work then brilliant but as folk have said it affects our model of selling players. Am hopeful that the loans are to assist with the injuries and possibly give some reassurance to the manager re size of the squad at this early stage but also maybe more confidence in playing the youngsters. Won’t know if these loanees are good though till they play. Hopefully adds to the quality without us having to pay wages etc beyond our means. If we do have 9 million I would hope that we are at least investing 2 million back in player signings

We brought in 3 loanees last season. 2 of them didn't work out (Sule and Osong) and one did (Welsh). If that model plus the players we signed on permanent deals managed to bring us success, there's not much need to deviate too far this season. As others have said, we have some unexpected injury problems to deal with too, and loans can be a good way to fill the gaps - directly or indirectly - if the expectation is that the injured players will return in the first half of the season.

I'm with you on that. Loans do have their place, providing they're not overdone. We've now acquired 2 loan signings, maybe to cover short term injuries but I don't get the Paulsen one. We knew a wee bit in advance that Ward was likely to move on and so would likely have time to prepare. One more to cover a striker perhaps given the number of injuries/permacrocks in that department. Less so in defence and certainly not in midfield.

To be honest I don't think we will be going down that line again. We are just in situation just now due to various factors. 1. 6 players plus Welsh all left 2. 8 players out injured 3. Season started earlier due to European ties. We needed a keeper in quick so that explains Paulsen deal. Lowry one i can see being loan but with view to permanent move if he takes advantage of this opportunity for him. Hopefully a couple more permanent signings and injured players back will mean 3 max on loan

We have an ongoing injury problem at the club. Eating barb wire is only going to escalate the problem. They are football players, I guarantee some aren’t the brightest….. I fully expect At least one of them (Wilson) to be on the injury list having a ripped ar5ehole.

I wonder if they've decided to squirrel as much money away as possible to put it towards these infrastructure jobs that we've been discussing

I’ve said here before that loans should be the exception rather than the rule. The injuries might be forcing us down that road at the moment, but I do worry we’re starting to head down the Kettlewell route. Injuries aside, we’ve got the finances and the model to sign permanent players for the key roles we need. Loans should supplement that, not become the solution.

For anyone else as stadium geeky as me, here's a well rounded video on the new Roma proposal (same colour adjacent). You'll see they're onto their second draft and its been held up with archeological and residents issues over a green space/park. They've used the Populos Architecture firm (they seem to a monopoly of the big stadium projects as it's their specialty). Also, ignore the price tag, this isn't look at what we can have type post. Probably more pertinent since the on field performance is something often invoked by Jens, Bodo-Glimt are financing a new £90-100m stadium. It seems to be a campus, 10k capacity. However I'd caveat it with, due to their sovereign wealth fund, central government has a lot of cash. Second the cost of living is roughly double to here or it was when I was there extensively in 2016-19 with work. There's also extra complexity and demands constructing and surviving in such a climate. It's a city of 55,000 and I'm surprised they didn't go for a larger capacity however they also don't have two teams within 15 miles that's support can fill 60k stadia.
