  2. If everyone had the luck Aberdeen have had to win this seasons cup we'd all have a few trophies in our lifetime 😂😂 Draw Elgin City Dunfermline Queens Park Hearts And the Celtic Keeper throws the ball in the net for them yesterday.
  3. Today
  4. Every Motherwell fan still alive has only ever seen us win at most 3 cups, league cup in 1950 and Scottish cup in 1952, & 1991, and for the vast majority it will only be 1. Is that record vastly different for any other club in the league apart from The ugly sisters and Aberdeen. In Scotland only the uglies win trophies on a regular basis, the rest of us have to wait for a win every 35 to 40 years etc for a special season. We've had 4 major finals since 1991, 2 league cup in 2005, 2018 and 2 Scottish cup in 2011 and 2018 and faced Celtic 3 tines and lost them all and Rangers once again losing. All this chat about other clubs winning cups etc is nonsense, it took Hibs over 100 years to win one ffs, St J had a special season won 2 trophies but never played either of the ugly sisters in doing so, as is the case for most of the other winners. So in my lifetime I've been at 5 cup finals supporting Motherwell, 4 of them defeats against the best teams in the country, and 1 win our special season in 1991. So for a club of our size our record in major trophies is is decent. And I suspect if a comparison was done against the other teams, uglies excepted re finals reached, games won etc we would be high on the list.
  5. I know I'm just throwing hypotheticals around here, but that's what happens when the season is finished. Would we tolerate a season like Spurs if we lost 21 games, but won the Scottish Cup? I 100% agree that it's a lot of fun going to grounds you've never visited before and find it sad a lot of the places we were able to visit when we were in the First Division have long since gone. Of course, I'd be delighted if we won another piece of silverware. I'm lucky, however, to have been at Hampden in 1991. I also watched us win the old First Division twice which, while not quite as prestigious, was still a great experience - in particular because it meant we won a shed load of games along the way. I'm not worried about the European place awarded when you finish 2nd or 3rd in the league, I'm more interested in the number of games won to achieve it. One of the most enjoyable seasons in recent memory was when we pipped Aberdeen to 2nd place with the last kick of the ball at Pittodrie - the same season that Albion Rovers knocked us out the cup. Would I swap that for a Cup Win and finishing 9th? Not sure.
  6. I've great memories of going on the European tours but it was mainly because I was seeing places and grounds I'd never been to rather than "being in Europe". I've had just as good memories from going to places like Stranraer and Elgin that I'd never visited. A cup win would supercede anything else for me and to get the chance to re live 1991 again would be the icing on the cake.
  7. They better not do a Kettlewell mk2 here.
  8. What if we were like St Johnstone and we played eye-bleedingly painful football for a few seasons, won 2 cups, and continued to play eye-bleedingly painful football on our way to relegation? Or would you rather have a few more McCall like seasons where we finished 2nd?
  9. Good debating this with you, and yes I don’t think we’re miles apart on where we’d like to be with our 1st team squad.
  10. We're not that far apart in reality. 100% the squad need serious pruning down to an overall size of 22/23 or thereabouts, with an emphasis on quality over quantity. Although we haven't heard officially yet, the likes of Callachan, Paton, Blaney, Zadrowski and maybe Seddon will be off most likely before the new man comes in, as contracts expire on 30 June I believe. Return of loanees to parent clubs will account for a fair proportion of the cull. Like it or not, we won't cut loose injured players like Robinson and Nicholson just yet although I agree long term. That then leaves O'Donnell and Halliday from your hit list. We do need some continuity and experience going forward, but the former's deal was signed quite some time ago. The new man will want to assess his squad first and will have time to do that before the window closes. It might well be that he wants to move on 1 or 2 players fairly quickly. One aspect I'm uncertain about though is progression young players. In theory I'm 100% behind this but they have to be good enough to make the step up and I simply don't know the youth squad well enough to form any opinion.
  11. Callum Mcgregor greeting his eyes out like a big lassie was a glorious sight.pity those self entitled cunts don't lose more games like that, good on aberdeen.
  12. To negate the need for a huge squad, we should probably start to sign utility players who can cover multiple positions. Eg. Jordan McGhee. And then focus on signing quality over quantity, with a sprinkling of youth players as extra cover. You’re right that it’ll take (at least) two transfer windows to sort this squad out. Some updates from the club on the managerial and squad situations next week would be welcome.
  13. In theory you need cover for every position and a bit of extra leeway so as a minimum a squad size of at least 22 should be the starting point. The main problem we have is whoever takes over from MW has not seen us play, formed their opinion of do we currently have the players to play whatever style of football they prefer etc so recruitment is difficult. That's why we need a new manager in ASAP, and I suspect it will be a rebuild over the summer and winter transfer windows to get anywhere near a settled team.
  14. Give me a cup win over Europe any time. 1991 was great but 34 years ago. We need new memories. Also winning Scottish Cup can get you European group stage football if co efficient stays ok
  15. Sorry Kmcalpin but I have to disagree with you on that point. Our first team squad of 32 players is way too big and needs to be culled. We’ve got 10 players on loan so once they return to their parent clubs the squad size reduces to 22. Then I would offer up the following 9 players as dead wood that needs to be gotten rid of: O’Donnell, Seddon, Blaney, Zadrovski, Halliday, Callachan, Paton, Nicholson and Robinson so that reduces the squad size down to 13 which is obviously too small. I believe our first team squad size should be 18 and that we add quality and not quantity to get there.
  16. As much as it's great to see Celtic and that arrogant shark faced wank of a manager taken down a peg I take no satisfaction in a non Old Firm side winning silverware while our wait goes on. If we can't have our day at Hampden lifting the trophy then I don't want anyone else to have theirs. Plus Aberdeen and their supporters are obnoxious insufferable arseholes.
  17. Burrows helps win Scottish Cup.
  18. ‘Europe’ for us is great on paper but in reality it is us playing two glorified friendlies which either end in anti-climax or utter humiliation. Give me the league cup group stages over that any day of the week. Winning a trophy, Scottish Cup or the League Cup would be the ultimate achievement for us. We’re never going to win the League title obviously but the Cups give you that outside chance of tangible success and that for me would piss all over any ‘European tour’ and all that crap.
  19. And of course Nicky Devlin with a cup winners medal today
  20. Yesterday
  21. Max just won the Austrian Bundesliga for the second time with Sturm Graz. Kipré was a losing finalist in the French Cup for Reims v PSG.
  22. Aye, obviously if we're finishing third then we've won loads of games and this is no bad thing. But in terms of just a straight choice between Europe and a trophy, a trophy please... Naturally, I would settle for either...
  23. It's an interesting topic. A cup win would be great. It's a long season, however, and regardless of European places, finishing 3rd would likely mean a good number of wins along the way providing regular entertainment.
  24. You are 💯 spot on I would say Importance of course is being a top flight club for me After that Scottish cup first League cup second Finishing in a European position third I confess to being jealous of other teams walking round Hampden with a cup in the last 15 years or so. I will finish this by saying well done Alan Burrows and Aberdeen . Saved us from listening about the talk of another treble . A guy who I went to school with
  25. I have not seen us play in Europe. Moved over here in 1989. Closest I got was the year Sligo Rovers put us out. I was home for the dates of the next round 😡 I did come back for Scottish cup finals in 1991, 2011 and 2018 but didnt come back for either of the league cup finals. Of course, I’d be delighted to see us win a league cup but I’m definitely more disappointed when we get knocked out of Scottish cup than league cup.
  26. I feel differently these days. Most of us have seen Motherwell in Europe. The number of us to have seen us win a trophy is getting smaller all the time. If you offered me third place next season or a league cup win, it's the claret and amber ribbons every time. But that's maybe just me...
