  5. I have to say Im fairly comfortable with whoever gets the job. They each have their own merits. Lasley knows this squad inside out so he will have a head start in respect of knowing who is good enough, has the right temperament or needs moved on quickly. He also has a deep love of the club so his motivation can never be questioned. He was clearly angry at the weekend performance so I dont think he would lack the resolve to wield the axe. But he is young, inexperienced and therefore a bit of a risk when we are currently in a relegation dogfight. Tommy Wright would appear to be the safest pair of hands. Knows the Scottish game. Is experienced at out level and had a reasonable amount of success with a provincial club. It is a bit of an uninspired choice however, and although Ive no doubt he could steer us clear of relegation, would he be the man to rebuild the squad and develop our youngsters? Simon Grayson, vastly experienced and obviously managed at the highest level of the 4 with Leeds and Huddersfield to some success. But that was a long time ago. Could he rekindle that or is he yesterdays man? Graham Alexander is the one that intrigues me most and I dont actually know why. Really liked him as a player at Burnley and with Scotland. Good old fashioned no nonsense fullback/midfielder. Very underated. I really had no clue about his managerial career until I read this thread, and although you could view his sackings negatively, he would appear to have been unfortunate on at least a couple of occasions so I might cut him some slack there. It would be interesting to see who he would want as backroom staff with his Scotland connections. Ultimately, its down to the board and how each interviews. I know some on hear have strong opinions on our board and some of their decision making, however, I always feel much of this is unfounded and based on supposition. Given that the majority are Well fans and also have the interest of the club at heart, I trust them to make the most informed choice they can. I look forward to getting fully behind the successful candidate.

  11. Jesus, the guy couldnt pass water and You want him in midfield?! Mental Cant fault his attitude, unfortunately he is meant to be a professional footballer so he needs more than just a great attitude. Cant control a ball, cant pass, and cant even take a proper throw in. It tells You everything about Robbos recruitment when someone like this is first name on the team sheet, as he often is

  20. To be fair though he may be scunnered with the long hoof ball we have been playing where we have not even been trying to play through the midfield. Maybe the new gaffer will change tactics a bit and force him to be involved in the games by actually encouraging the team to play some passing football.

  21. Among this bunch I’d have his name on the team sheet as well. If having the right attitude is his only good point, he has one more good point than a good few of the others on show at the moment. Although I’d have him at right back with O’Donnell in front of him

  24. That replay at Ibrox was an unpleasant experience. If I remember correctly we scored in the first few minutes as we were making our way round behind the goals where there was a shed at the back. As we were celebrating a group of menacing Rangers supporters came down and surrounded us and we had to run over to the shed at the side of the park. My hatred for Rangers stems from quite a few incidents and this was one of them. No segregation in those days. If I remember correctly ex Celtic goalie John Fallon played for us that night and had a poor game.

  27. My dad was an Accies fan and took me to a cup tie against Killie on one of his rare Saturdays off. I think it was 1967. Tommy and Jackie Mcinally were playing that day and I remember my dad laughed when I asked him who the wee boy on the wing was. He doesn't look as small in the photo but it's probably because Joe is stooping a bit. I remember being tremndously impressed by Jackie's rumbustious runs, his knee s almost grazing his chin, so I was delighted when we eventually signed him.

  28. Considering our situation, IMO the best option would be to offer Tommy Wright the job on a short-term contract until the end of the season with a bonus linked in if he keeps us up. Then re-assess after that.

  29. Timing and personality. I have no qualms over Wright’s record, he did an excellent job at St Johnstone. However, I don’t think when he left a provincial club where he’s considered a legend, he envisaged turning up at Fir Park the next season. It’s often said that manager’s have a shelf life at a club, I think in some instances that can be extended to a level or league. For me, the prospect of managing Motherwell isn’t going to fill Wright with excitement but if there are no better offers around he’ll take it. Now Hughes has obviously been around the block a few times with some great success but having taken a few knocks and been out the game for a while, I think he’d have been well up for the opportunity. As for personality, Wright strikes me as having similar character and values to Robinson. That’s no bad thing but at a time when the squad hasn’t been responding to Robinson, I’d be concerned that Wright would offer more of the same and not provide the fresh approach required (not that the players should get off the hook, I’d try and punt anyone that isn’t giving it their all but that’s easier said than done). Hughes for all his flaws and cringeworthy patter meanwhile, would imo have had a better chance of lifting the spirits of the squad and in time, playing better football. Just to be clear, I’m not saying I’d want Hughes as manager if he were available but he’s certainly no worse than the options being presented.

  33. I took little real notice about how St Johnstone played in general over the Tommy Wright years, however the one thing I do remember is them regularly beating us and always seeming to be a bit of a "bogey team". Id be happy enough with him in charge Id have been very excited about Simon Grayson a couple years ago, but his recent experiences have tarnished him a bit. No idea of the circumstances of his last few jobs, but for me he has to be the outsider Las is covered in Robinson stink and shouldnt be anywhere near even an interview, nevermind the actual job. He was part of the senior Management team who have not only underperformed, but built a team with a shocking attitude, if they arent gonna try for Robbo, they clearly arent gonna do so for Las I have to admit, until seeing his name on here, I never even realized Alexander was managing to any decent level. However, after reading up a bit on him, he's the one candidate that is most intriguing and potentially the most exciting. He is fairly experienced and from what I can see has done a good job at all 3 clubs he has managed. The Salford sacking itself was an absolute joke. Interesting times ahead, hopefully we find out soon

  34. The club can only pick from those who applied and want the job, so maybe the 4 names quoted are the only ones interested, probably enquiries have been made to others about the job but if they are not interested then the clubs hands are tied.

  37. Not Tommy Wright for me. The club have a tendency to find people off the beaten track so can't see it being anyone mentioned so far. Las was hobbled by Archer and Lang departing plus O'Hara suspension. I think it is bad luck that the perception can't be ignored over the reality of the shitty situation he found himself in. I'm hoping for a Steve Clarke type appointment when Killie got him. I suspect there's a few highly respected coaches not on the radar except for those in football circles looking for a chance. It's rare that a coach, reserve/youth team manager will see much media daylight when focus is on the gaffer and his assistant. But players and club officials talk about who's got something about them and that drips down. Quite often it needs a move away from where familiarity has flourished to a new pasture to earn the respect and deference the role needs. A lot will depend on contacts and knowledge of what personnel may be able to bolster the half dozen who have got something about them currently in the squad.

  38. Not that it makes anyone any more or less qualified, but Alexander and Robinson were teammates for two seasons at Preston. In my head Alexander is a bit of a rookie, but he’s actually older than Robinson. Just so you know.

  40. Like Tanner and Taylor-Sinclair who were last playing with Plymouth when we signed them. Or Polworth and Fisher from Inverness. You don't rate the Director of Recruitment, fair enough. Making up shite to embelish your point only diminishes it.

  41. I like the paradox amongst some on here that we shouldn't take punts on English lower league players and should bring in players with established pedigrees but with managers the opposite applies.

  42. Are you joking? Brophy has far too much experience of the top division for us to be signing him. Now, if you can find a striker with a 1 in 5 record from The Eastern Durham League, please feel free to make a sensible suggestion.

  43. Grimshaw and a few others that aren't good enough at this level have made a good living off our generosity at handing out wages from not much return. I'm sure there are young guys at the club that can give you enthusiasm and might even make a pass once in a while. Nothing against him personally but if you are 4 seasons in at a club and you aren't a stick on first teamer then its time to move on.....or get moved on. Keeping senior players on that aren't good enough for the first XI in insanity and one of the reasons our squad isn't good enough.

  44. I presume Archer knew he was away and the deal was done so I suspect he made himself unavailable as per instructions from Middlesbrough not wanting to risk any Injury to the player before he got there, so I will give Las the benefit of tbe doubt on that one.

  45. Or alternatively, us activating a clause in his contract protecting the clubs financial interests. A club that has allowed him to build that platform. Nobody is denying him that move. But we all know they can afford to buy him if they want. Why bend over to Celtic? Gallagher signed the contract with us, clauses and all. Fuck him if he doesn’t like it. The last thing we should be doing is allowing him to walk for free. If they want him, pay for him. It really is that simple. We’re not a bloody charity club.

  46. IMO the want away players not giving their all are O'Donnell, Gallagher and Campbell.

  47. As one of Robbo's biggest fans that was quite a tough read. A man who gave his absolute all to this club. Some of the abuse he took on here from certain individuals was/is shameful.

  48. O'Donnell is a decent player but at our level where games have countless errors you need to make an impact on goals scored or conceded. I don't think O'Donnell has done better by that assesment than Grimmy has at left back this season. Spend our cash on someone who puts points on the board.
