    • Happy we have accepted the quoted fee of 3.25m + add ons.
    • Think we should have held out for more, but still sold this summer
    • Think we should have kept David for at least one more season
    • Happy we have accepted the quoted fee of 3.25m + add ons, but shouldn't have accepted a bid from a club in Scotland
    • Other thoughts. Please comment

Yeah, I'd be very surprised if that's true.

It'll definitely be true.

Celtic are about as trustworthy as a junkie looking for a bus fare.

Celtic statement

"FOLLOWING the announcement today from Motherwell FC that the proposed transfer of David Turnbull from the club to Celtic will no longer take place, Celtic Football Club has released the following statement.

  • ‘It is unfortunate that we were not able to proceed with the transfer of David to Celtic, having agreed a significant fee with Motherwell and reaching agreement with the player.

‘It is regrettable that David will be out of action for a considerable length of time and, clearly, these circumstances are totally outwith the club's control. We did everything we could to find a solution.

‘We would like to thank David and his representatives for the professionalism they have shown throughout. We also thank Motherwell FC for the way they have handled this process.

'We wish David all the very best with the operation and every success for the future.' "

It's taken them a while, but they've managed to say something that doesn't make them look like utter cunts.

I think what they meant to say is.  Celtic are reneging on the original deal and MFC have insisted on original terms so the deal is off.

Well, not really. The original deal would have been subject to a medical, just like any other transfer. That said, we could still have caved to Celtic's reduced offer, and well done to the board for not doing so -- if they were still prepared to buy him, they presumably think the problem isn't career-threatening.

Yeah, in all honesty there isn't really a club in existence that would say "the player failed a medical and needs surgery? No problemo, we'll still pay full whack!"

They were only looking out for their own best interests, which is quite right. And we were looking out for ours and those of our player. I have no doubt they'll be back in January or next summer.

Excellent news about Turnbull

Hopefully Celtic now pursue their other options that John Kennedy previously spoke of and don't bother coming back in for him in January either.

While it wouldn't have suited the fans, it would certainly suit Turnbull.

He gets his £10k a week now, and his move next year. Wouldn't surprise me if this loan suggestion was to keep him happy.

If he was on loan from us, would he not just be  getting his contracted Motherwell wages (as a Motherwell employee).

Positives are he doesn't go to Celtic this summer. Will they come back in? Depends on whether they are able to get any of the other targets they were apparently going to move on to. If anything, his injury should at least mean we don't see the spectacle of Scott Brown going for his 'dodgy' knee at Fir Park second game of the season...

Negatives? How long will he he out for? Will he be the same player? It's early to have this conversation but it's a serious question. Even with a successful outcome, does this issue affect other teams' willingness to take a punt on him next summer. £3m is a lot for Motherwell to miss out on.

Don't expect the usual suspects on here to give the club the credit they deserve for standing their ground but you can't have everything...

Leading us to a top 6 and cup winning run must be worth a couple of million :whistling:

I'm more concerned about the massive comedown Turnbull will have as a result of this outcome and hope it doesn't sour relations between him and the club. That said, I'm pleased the club stuck to their guns and weren't bullied. I also firmly believe Turnbull can come back stronger for this and get his move in January.

If he’s out for the thick end of the  rumoured 3-6 months, we’ll likely struggle  for £3mil + offers as he enters the last year of his contract.

Motherwell and Turnbull have conducted themselves impeccably  throughout the process and it’s very unfortunate how events have unfolded. The end result is not great news for either party.

Downside now being that the club will probably now have to take another look at recruitment as you can guarantee they had signings lined up based on the money they were expecting to come in.

It's supposed to be a minor procedure and Celtic still want him so must be really serious. Norwich appear to have been willing to take him on so did he have a medical with them which showed nothing to concern them?? Photo-shopped pictures and claims of David being a lifelong Celtic fan adding to the usual media response to suck up to the green brigade. THEY'RE AT IT. Congrats to the negotiating team and best wishes to David for his successful procedure (if required) and his subsequent progression at Fir Park.

These are my immediate thoughts. While I’d wanted him to go anywhere but Celtic, the fact that it’s due to medical reasons the impact of which none of us know is quite upsetting. Turnbull has so far acted impeccably for the club, and to see him lose his move under these circumstances can’t be easy for him.

Also thinking about when he does eventually leave, what sort of position will we be in?if he’s back in a few months and smashes the second half of the season we may be able to get a higher fee. Another 6+ months in the first team may be enough to convince DT to move south (why I guess he chose Celtic over Norwich). But if he’s out until Christmas he may struggle second half and not be as hot property next summer. As has been mentioned he’ll also only have a year left by then. We may be in a position to have to sell for less than what has been agreed this summer. Lots of ifs, lots of buts.....

The original thing I saw stated in it that this is not the fault of Celtic or David Turnbull. Thereby inferring it's Motherwell's fault? Plus if they still wanted him they must have been very confident of him being 100% after minor preventive surgery. As someone else stated, I believe they were at it.

I don't give a flying fuck about the money anyway I just want to boy to get fit again and see him in a Motherwell shirt once more.

So nothing to see here it's over with we move on and get the Magnificent David Turnbull back fit and well soon hopefully.

He was down at Norwich for 1 day so not sure if he had medical ………… took about 4 days for his medical at Celtic

Lets get the boy back to Fir Park and get our own medical staff to have a look and come up with their diagnosis and rehab program

Personally I cannot get my head round why he choose Celtic over Norwich daughter stays there and I’ve been to Carrow Road on a number of occasions great set up really good people running the club with great facilities It’s also a nice part of the country to live

I love this 'usual suspects' chat.  It always makes me think of the ant hill mob lurking away is some dark corner of the steelmen online site waiting to attack us with negative vibes.

Last night they were being blamed for a negative reaction to the Crusaders friendly (when actually nobody  was saying very much) and today for  not giving the club due credit (when actually the comments have been very positive).

I bet they will be along in a minute though to spread their vile. Darn those usual suspects!!!

Hopefully we will get some official details from the club regarding his medical issue and recovery time once they have consulted with our own specialists. I'm really hoping it's "what? He's fine" but id like to think Celtic or even worse a physician wouldn't resort to that level and so I have to belive that he does have an issue. So lets get him fixed real quick.

Im happy Celtic released a level headed account of things, but I’m sure their weirdo fans will find ways to read between the lines though.

It also seems that most of the in the know folk actually know fuck all.

It looks like if this transfer saga hadn’t started, Turnbull would have done pre season and played games with no knowledge of a potential knee problem, but now that something has been seen in the medical it can’t be unseen and we need to do something about it.

so it looks like Turnbull may have dodged a bullet, and now just needs preventative work, when it could have been far worse at a later date.  He will probably be gutted that the deal didn’t go through, but he’ll get his move soon enough.

However, this is a bigger blow to us since there’s no way we sell him for what we wanted, since there’s little or no chance that someone is going to take him in January if he’s only just back from his op, then there’s only a year left and our negotiating position is weaker.

kind of shit, but not really anything we can do about it. So let’s hope someone buys Kipre for 15m.

I don't agree,it's a big blow to the club a minor setback short-term yes, whatever surgery is required will be done, with hopefully a not too long recovery period, January window might be too soon.

But on the positive side if he continues to develop and helps us to a good season the I have a feeling another contract offer will come his way, to protect the club's interests. Just in time for us to have this debate again next summer.

Its going to be near impossible to offer him a new extended contract when he now knows exactly what he could have got elsewhere, and he was a bawhair away from getting it. Pretty sure like most 19 year olds he’d have had that money spent in his head already.
