Well, as the sun sets on a season to forget for multiple reasons ( actually it's morning here and absolutely p*ss*ng down which also seems somehow apt) where do we find ourselves? The players who are already signed on for next season are an uninspiring bunch who have either underperformed over the last twelve months or are just not good enough. It is the manager's task to get a whole lot more out of them both collectively and as individuals. A fair few question marks over a few - can Carson return from injury and be as good as he was? can Grimshaw return after illness and provide the industry and utility that would enhance the squad? can Stephen Lawless find the form and inclination to remind us that his signing was a cause of some optimism? can Harry Robinson return from Aldi with everything on the list and the correct change? The players we have brought in on loan have been a mixed bag, but I honestly cannot make a case for keeping any of them. Kelly would be a great signing, but we couldn't afford him and the only other one to make an impact , Roberts, is now out with a long term injury. The players whose contracts are coming to an end are another mixed bag. Cole has done enough to warrant a new deal, though whether or not t will be with us is the real question. Long is a frustration in that there is obviously talent there, but it only appears when you have just about given up on him. Probably a luxury that a club at our level cannot really afford. I have some sympathy for the likes of Semele and Cornelius who have lack opportunities to show if they can make a mark, but if they haven't already broken through in our current squad, will they ever? Scott Fox has been unlucky with injury but you would think that Morrison is now ready to be our back up keeper. Charles Dunne has to prove that he has recovered enough to be a viable option in our squad. Foley is decent, but not a long term option. I can se most of them going. My hope is that the manager is able to take what we already have and get the best out of it. A good team is greater than the sum of it's parts, and the one thing that we can probably all agree on is that, this season, this has not been the case at Fir Park. I think we will have to bring in some new blood. As o who and what position, a lot will depend on who remains after the new deals are offered, rejected and so on. The three things I think we need to highlight with regard to strengthening the squad are leadership, quality and character. All three have been sadly lacking this season and, without them, we are in for another year of struggle at the wrong end of the table. Anyway, we made it through this year. Sincere best wishes to all true Motherwell fans. Here's to better times ahead, and not just on the football field. I believe we are lucky to support an amazing football club, forged in the steel of a white hot furnace, and trying to achieve against the odds. When I think about it, I thank my late father for instilling this passion and support in me and realise that, although it may be a struggle on the bad days, it is part of me forever now and I love it. PS A wee cup win next season would be nice.10 points

I don't quite get the apparent desire to circumvent the routes suggested by the club. Why not just take it the offer in the the spirit it was intended and donate to one of two routes offered?4 points

Yes, my objection is exactly because of who is involved, as explained by G&F's Post I agree with all he said, they are a cancer on Scottish football with their bigoted we can do what we like attitude and get away with it as the weekend events in Glasgow demonstrated with the blue uglies. So why should leagues be disrupted, just to develop players for Rangers and Celtic, with no benefit to any other club or Scottish football in general.3 points

I object because of exactly who they are. Our league is a two horse race and all this does is widen the gap even further. So the proposal is a further 40 odd players blood themselves in the lower leagues to hopefully progress to the big team. They already hoover up kids because of who they are and their "popularity", it is common knowledge but unspoken of how they are limited to the number of kids they can have on their books so have shadow squads, parents none the wiser. They agreed on a SPFL 11-1 voting structure, investigate every option that presents itself to cut loose, bemoan wee teams in finals getting a half share of seats, whinge about TV rights and how they're kneecapped financially against other European teams. Scotland is their home but they'd relocate to Spain faster than a Post Office armed robber. If it is deemed that a Hearts, Hibs, Motherwell, Killie, Aberdeen and Dundee Utd colts entering lower leagues would enhance their first teams and therefore make the top league more competitive then I'm all for it at the expense of the OF. I'm sure the 100,000 regular attendee's from the rest of the clubs that make up 45% of the total OF (55k at Ibrox 25% and 65k at Parkhead 30%) are a sizable lobby group and fed up of their crap. Don't let any trickle down wealth bullshit con anyone, it has not worked in society evident by the wealth gap growing and poverty rampant. Fuck them and the bigoted boat they sailed up the Clyde in.3 points

Nor do I Dave but since we are north of 50. I assume you are :-) Maybe someone a bit younger can enlighten us. I suspect it may be down to someone being a bit of a arse. Kelly would be a great signing. He appears willing to stay. But... 1. Did they not pay a transfer fee for him ? 2. He has another year or two in his contract at wages that are likely to be in excess of what we can afford here. 3. I just saw a clip of Stephen Thompson suggesting his for the Scotland Euro squad. FWIW I agree over McNaughton who has played very few if any competitive games for Rangers ! My point being we may not be the only interested party. So it may happen, but a few things would need to align very favourably.....1 point

Why would anyone knowingly post a fake news tweet? I don't find it funny and just don't get it.1 point

The principle is they will become better and richer and the gap opens up further. A solution to make our league more competitive is not to help Rangers and Celtic further.1 point

While I think Watt can help some of the younger players on and off the field I think we need more of a Hartley type captain. To encourage, organize and drive the players on and sometimes give them a rollicking when needed. It also has to be natural for the captain to be like that. Doesn’t have to be your best player, just has to be your best leader. We have really missed that since Hartley’s been gone.1 point

The plan as it stands is for one year only. Beyond that, who knows. If an agreement is reached, fair and reasonable terms can be worked out. The Leagues below Lowland League level opted to "Nul and Void" last season and chose not to nominate a team for promotion. I think 3 sixth tier clubs usually play off for the Lowland League promotion. So neither Celtic or Rangers are denying any deserving team a move up via the pyramid system next season. In addition The Lowland League Board have emphasised that promotion and relegation will continue to be a feature of their League, whether or not the Old Firm colts are included. And there is also a guarantee that the OF Colts cannot be promoted into the level above Lowland League. If the total number of teams in that League were increased by two for future seasons it would have no effect whatsoever on the Pyramid System. I don't particularly agree with their Colts coming in at that level, but I don't blame either Club for looking after their interests in a way that also benefits those other clubs in the League. I do wonder though if your objection is because of who is involved. Would your feelings be so strong if it was Motherwell and Hibs Colts?1 point

So they will be taking up 2 places in the LL that means that 2 clubs further down the pyramid will be denied or can't afford the 25k its feckin nonsense. Once again Scottish football is pandering to the uglies.and their cash If they want there reserve teams to get some competition enter them into one of the feeder leagues lower down the pyramid and see how they do to earn promotion on merit like every other club has to do.1 point

...Especially as making a donation towards buying season tickets for people that can’t afford is effectively a donation to the club... and the effect of such donations will be increased due to the club matching donations to distribute season tickets to the value of double any donations.1 point

Motherwell starting 11 form over the league season (according to Who Scored.com). Based on an algorithm of all the in game data they collect. Sometimes these things don't tell the full story and I'd always prefer to judge a player by eye than on game data but I still think it's kind of interesting to look at, especially as we all have our own bias for and against various players. Basically goes Dark Green - very good, Green - good, Yellow - Average, Orange - below average, Red - poor, Dark Red - very poor.1 point

The proposal is that they cannot be promoted.....or relegated. And if our youngsters were able to play in such a competitive League on the same basis it would be far better than them sitting on a bench purely to make up numbers, and getting no or very limited game time. In fact it would be £25k well invested.1 point

Would you rather have had brilliant one touch football not getting the results and ending up relegated. We were favourites to go down in January, GA came in steadied the ship and got us safe with games to spare , a relegation fight us no place for silky football its about getting the points any way you can, 2 defeats in the last 12 games is testimony to how well we done in that respect. We had 3 rounds in the Europa league, missed a top 6 place by a couple of points, a couple of poor penalties away from a cup semi final, so I don't think the season has been as bad as people make out Time for a summer rebuild and another season in the premiership, onwards and upwards.1 point

If you looked at just the stats Watt is a player who'd be slated for his lack of goals . The simple fact that he works his backside off and has the ability to hold the ball and pass means he's our player of the year , despite. a lack of goals. We need more lads to care the way Watt does. Still don't think he's a striker but a great player to have just behind the front 21 point
