Hearing the abuse shouted at Alexander when he was giving his post-match interview was really embarrassing. I thought he sounded a bit shaken. I don't care what the industry is, no one should have to go to their job and get shouted and sworn at, no matter what you think of them. He's human and deserves a basic level of respect and anyone who thinks it's okay to address someone else in that manner in any circumstances should take a long hard look at themselves.6 points

I might be easily amused, but I always find it funny that the anti-science crew are quite happy to use the science that gave us global instantaneous communication to share their insights.4 points

I agree but hopefully a fresh start without Alexander means the tension drops for the upcoming games.4 points

Forgetting the football Sligo was a cracking trip. In terms of bars, restaurants and cafes it had everything you need and the town centre was miles better than anything in Scotland other than Edinburgh and Glasgow. Some nice hotels as well and great scenery. Friendly people too and apparently 48 pubs in a town of 20,000 population so they are clearly very sociable. The police were brand new as well with a far more positive attitude towards football fans than Police Scotland. Overall we were as well getting gubbed there as in Prague.2 points

I realise that. It was sarcasm, given the 'Fuck off Kelly, ya dick' comment. The manager's gone. If the fans fancy chasing one of our few decent players out too, fair enough, but would it not be better to take a breather and see what their reaction on the park is first?2 points

If we had scored that goal we would be going nuts at how good it was. And nobody would be having a go at the goalkeeper. The error was giving the foul away in the first place.2 points

Ive said previously i dont think we have a bad squad of players, they just seem t have the shackles on,we need someone t come in n give them the confidence, freedom n most of all a system they can express themselves in2 points

To quote "Mr Wonderful" on Shark Tank (the US version of Dragon's Den), the notion of rehiring Robinson as manager needs to be taken behind the barn and put out of its misery.2 points

Had we not been fan owned we would have ended up in administration again. Thats the bottom line.2 points

This board alone is proven how toxic our fan base has become folk forget quickly Alexander saved us from the drop and got us top six .Yep football wasn't the best last 6 months but my god the same fans who put up with the same shite from Robinson for a whole year and were standing up applauding him when St Mirren returned! However it's good to see some level heads on here actually speaking sense yep we all get pissed off following the Well but this vile toxic situation needs to simmer. You pay yer money to watch football you don't know what yer getting you might have a rough idea but nothing is certain that goes for any team.1 point

No managerial appointment is guaranteed at any level, and clubs are way too quick to sack managers thesedays. Results aren't guaranteed, even if you're throwing silly money around, look at Hibs and Aberdeen, who blow us out of the water financially when it comes to attracting players and managers. We also have the problem that if we find someone who works magic, we'll be losing them to someone bigger soon enough. How we conduct our business, both in private and in public, goes a long way to us getting the edge over the other clubs our size, of which there are many. If we start doing a Watford and sacking folk left and right, we'll find ourselves plummeting fast. Our candidate pool is shallow enough as it is, if we get a reputation of expecting miracles on a shite budget and tearing up contracts, we're going to get only the most desperate or inexperienced candidates. Loyalty works two ways. At the time of hiring Alexander we had a choice between him and Tommy Wright. We clearly made the right one, and you can't take Alexander's achievement of saving us from relegation and getting us into Europe away from him, it happened. As shite as other teams were, we still finished above them, we can't apologize for that. It's also clear that he wasn't going to be capable of taking us any further, and was one dimensional in his approach, so leaving now was the right decision. It's worth mentioning that dealing with real human beings in real life is a lot more nuanced than football manager.1 point

You should work for a local authority, you can be crap at your job for 20 years and still keep picking up a wage.1 point

Depends how far back into the good old days you go, I suppose. By 'golden handshake' do you mean paying up a contract agreed and signed by the club at the time of hiring?1 point

Glad you enjoyed your stay, all the Motherwell I encountered were great people and I heard no bad stories about ye, only good. Sligo is classed as a border county and thus is in the region with the worst economy in Ireland, house prices are among the cheapest I think maybe 5 or 6th least expensive of 26 counties in ROI.. other west coast towns further south are regarded as more desirable but there is none of them football towns.1 point

At least you would expect some fukin effort. That’s usually a prerequisite for a football game that’s how it works , you know.1 point

There was an interview with Alan Burrows on Sportsound earlier where he pretty much dismissed it as tabloid drivel. When questioned on it he said "Be careful what you believe in the papers" Sent from my SM-G973F using Tapatalk1 point

Being serious there is absolutely no chance Robinson will return. It would make no sense.1 point

The Robinson stuff could very easily just be lazy reporting, but the fact it's not just one source, and they're claiming we'll make a move for him on Monday does make you wonder if there's more to it. As others said, it fits in with our old pals ethos, which I assume comes straight from Burrows.1 point

I think he’s got a point. I thought the atmosphere at fir park lat week was brilliant until about 20mins in and then it was horrible, really unpleasant and at the end it was toxic….. and that was the main stand…. Folk hanging over the stand screaming and booing at players/managers/subs….. booing annoys the fk out me? I don’t understand it and it’s cringy seeing adults do it, unacceptable for a kid to boo never mind an adult. i think Kelly did point out it’s up to players tho to make the fans get behind them and they haven’t done that. I think he sort of said that? i don’t think Kelly said anything wrong and he’s 100% entitled to his opinion. I think some people are a bit sensitive. Players and fans just need to move on and hope our new manager gets something out these players.1 point

What about Barry Ferguson with Bob Malcolm as his assistant? I’m sure they are free agents having previously worked together at Kelty Hearts. Not that I’d want it but it could happen.1 point
-
I also don't think it's Kelly looking for a move, he is just angry at a manager he likes leaving. If (and it's a big if) that those were his choice of words then it isn't clever. There are fans out there that are total clowns, some of the shouts and abuse are shocking. However I can only speak for myself, apart from the bad jokes I like to think I am constructive in any criticism of a player or manager. Kelly is best keeper we have had since Randolph and should be next Scotland no.1. However, don't tar all fans with the same brush as the ones that are nutters...COYW1 point

Don't see what Kelly said wrong there. Did folk just read the headline? Looking at the stuff on social media for the last year, as well as the aftermath of Thursday, it seems like a valid reason for him to want to leave. Kelly stating what GA told him is fair game. Also funny to see some folk turn on our best player immediately for mentioning toxicity in the fan base, and not seeing an ounce of irony. Alexander has been getting dogs abuse all year, and folk are getting wound up because one person criticized them back.1 point
-
Not a good look from Kelly. They didn't lose because of the fans. They had absolutely no energy, fight or sense urgency in their play. That's what angered the fans in the first place! Sent from my SM-G973F using Tapatalk1 point
-
Are you for real? He could have kept it to himself, however he is in the paper as Alexander's mouthpiece basically saying the fans hounded him out. Kelly can STFU and concentrate on the game tomorrow. Dry you eyes Liam.1 point

Please don't rehire any previous 'Well manager. With Robinson we went almost 12 months looking completely lost, he ran out of ideas GA for almost a year we played poorly , lost our way, ran out of ideas. Someone with experience who knows what to do will be fab, wound's be against someone like Hammell/Faddy as the number 2 but some experience is needed. Saw a few comments about don't expect great flowing football , I don't expect Barca but I see different games at all levels and there's plenty of entertainment, excitement when teams are well organised and play together.1 point

I'm one of these fans who would take a last minute goal over entertaining football but that's just me. Probably because I've been going long enough like lots of folk on here that you'll take 3 points no matter how you get them:) My brother has been going to fir park over 30 years now and I've never seen him as disillusioned with Motherwell as I have last season. He just thought the football was dire. I do understand completely though why fans want to be entertained. Fans pay the money and even though our club does a lot of decent offers to get fans through the doors it's still not cheap and people want a return for their money. I think Slattery has a lot of potential and I'd like to see him develop.1 point

Purely short term I would go back 4 of mcginn RB. Lamie and sol in middle and SOD LB,. Apologies to Carroll and Bevis but they should be nowhere near the starting line up1 point

I think one think supporters are going to need to do regardless of the manager is temper expectations of the quality of football. I’ve seen four managers at Motherwell and every one has faced the same criticism, the quality of signings and a lack of technical ability. The next manager is going to be working with the same budget and as such the same gene pool of players. Lower league down south, Scottish championship, and bog standard Premiership. It’s extremely unlikely we’re going to see an upgrade and the best we can hope for is a fit organised group that win more than they lose. Some entertaining football would be nice, but very much a bonus.1 point

If we are seriously considering bringing Robinson back then there is no hope for Burrows and this board. An absolutely ridiculous, short sighted backward looking approach. Surely to Christ this cannot happen?1 point
-
Guys like Simo have shown interest before - and then they get told what the budget is and suddenly they aren't so interested. We need stability on one hand, but progression on the other. Not an easy combination to find for any club. Basically, a young old hand with solid fundamental expansive conservative ideas.1 point

Don't hold your breath for that happening. It took them long enough to realise Alexander was a dud. No doubt we will go for the tried and tested merry go round manager. Let's face it the next managers only task is keeping us in the Premier League. To be honest climbing the west face of the Eiger would be easier.1 point

Did burrows go immediately from being an unemployed fan to CEO? Every other CEO in history has gone from not being a CEO to being one, why is it such a big deal that Burrows was a fan before being employed by the club? No one is exempt from criticism, but this schtick is a decade old now. Every club has ups and downs on the field, and the fact that we came out of COVID completely stable and able to invest in infrastructure hardly points at the club being a shambles. It wasn't long ago we were in danger of being snapped up by shady foreign money launderers and at real risk of folding. We have a reputation of being one of the better run clubs in the country, and I believe that's earned. Alexander was the right appointment at the time. The alternative took Killie down, while Alexander kept us up and got us 5th. Every manager has a shelf life.1 point

If he has walked with a contract running until 2025 he deserves huge credit, I would not do that in his position. Credit also for the closing comments, gone with a bit of class.1 point

Sounds terrible but at this moment in time I have absolutely no enthusiasm for this fixture, that performance last night has just left me deflated and angry. If players can't get motivated for euro tie what chance have they got against an average buddies side1 point

His contract is likely structured to include a number of factors, but I'd imagine one of them is keeping the club in the Premier league, which he has done. The fact he took us to European football will have earned him some credit with the board. What most fans are asking for is the equivalent of a person being hired as a sales manager with minimum KPIs tied into his contract, only for him to hit those targets at the end of the year then be sacked because he had the equivalent of a bad day at the office early in the next year. As for the number of wins in a calendar year, or whatever way people want to frame it, that doesn't matter. It's where we finish in the league that matters. Teams below us may have had a better run over a pre-determined period of time (10 games, 15 games, 20 games) but if they finished below us in the league it doesn't matter. Alexander will be sacked if it looks unlikely he'll manage to secure us 10th place at minimum this season. We won't know how likely that is until around October or November, which is when I think the decision will be made. If we're sitting 9th or 10th and looking terrible he'll be gone and a new man in by January. If we're sitting 7th or even 8th and there's a bit of distance between ourselves and the teams in 10th and below then I think he'll be given the rest of the season. And for clarity, this isn't me saying what I want to happen. This is how I see it playing out.1 point
