Spiers clearly struggled with the pace/occasion when he came on but I can’t imagine the adrenaline rush he was experiencing. He did very well in the last 5 minutes. Congratulations to the kid on a winning debut. Huge 3 points.5 points

I might be easily amused, but I always find it funny that the anti-science crew are quite happy to use the science that gave us global instantaneous communication to share their insights.4 points

These St Mirren commentators are tremendous. They don't think it was a penalty despite the clear footage that the defender has his arm way out blocking a goal bound shot,2 points

Are we aware of the people acctually intrested in the job yet or is it still just the papers running a rumour mill over who it might be. I'd personally prefer a punt on simo Valakari as he loves the club rather than another english manager as under the last few we have been dreadful to watch.2 points

I’ve not read the Liam Kelly interview but he’s absolutely right, we have one of the angriest most aggressive most confrontational fan bases in the country. Grown men standing and screaming until they are blue in the face at anything they can justify. The ref, our own players, Alexander, even each other in the stands. It can be horrible to be in and around. Just look at the reaction since it’s been posted, “stfu”, “get to fuck”, “just focus on St Mirren” etc etc. He’s completely right. Edit - just to be clear I’m all for shouting and raising your voice and what not when merited, but it is a million miles too far so often.2 points

———————Kelly ——McGinn—-Mugabe—-Solholm O’Donnell——Maguire———Carroll ———-Cornelius——-Slattery ———————-Spittal ——————-Van Veen Putting together any form of attacking threat with our starting line up is close to impossible. We NEED another striker, left back, centre half and central midfielder2 points

Was thinking along similar lines. At the early stages Hamilton took a punt on Alex Neil and it worked . What’s not clear is whether he’d be interested and like you say lots of reasons why it could work , albeit lacks experience1 point

Great 3 points today. Wasnt the best performance, but considering where we have been and everything thats happened in the last week, its a great feeling to get the win and start the league season on a positive, especially considering we havent won our first league game since 2016! Not sure we can read too much into Hammells influence on the team given he only had 24 hours to work with them. But I did feel that some of the players looked like they had a bit of weight off their shoulders. He definitely made a statement by getting some young players on the bench and giving young Spiers a start so maybe a sign that he is showing the direction he feels the club should be headed. Like others, I thought Lamie was having a great game right up until his red card. I will need to see it again on tv as it was a long way from where we were, but initial reaction was that he couldnt have any complaints. KVV continues to frustrate. I get that the service to him isnt great but he doesnt work hard enough for me out of possession. He is a bit like a spoiled child throwing his arms around every time he doesnt get the ball where he wants it. The guy is a senior pro. He should be trying to improve those around him, not crying about how bad their service to him is. Kelly, as others have already said was absolutely outstanding. 2 match winning saves (one in each half) and several others that were top drawer. Thought it was quite noticeable how much the players looked to give appreciation to the fans today. Clearly aware of how bad things have been and how much reparation was required. Also reinforced.by Hammy post match. Just a small step today, but an important one. Hopefully the worst is behjnd us and we can look onwards and upwards for the rest of the season.1 point

I enjoyed that. Today was all about digging in and we did. Kelly had two outstanding saves, Lamie was very solid up until the sending off and KVV was looking more like his old self. Clearly we are short of a couple of quality players and the lack of minutes during pre-season constrained Hammell’s selection. Credit to him, Kerr and the players for gaining an important three points and lifting the gloom a little. Despite starting a bit shaky, it was nice to see Kian Speirs handed his debut and rather fitting with Hammell at the helm.1 point

Well done to Stevie and Brian Kerr for getting the team organised at such short notice. However it's only one game so I hope the board don't get lazy. Let's put the job out there and see who is interested1 point
-
Dugshit performance, no quality team ? The team did well . Alexander’s just out the door .What til we have a new manager see what he can do with them playing a different way , in their natural positions. Then we will see. You may be right or could be wrong time will tell.1 point

FFS we won the game, 3 points , clean sheet, joint top of the league, keeper had a brilliant game etc so yes we played well. Another 38 performances like that and we are champions. So why not just enjoy the win and a great start to the season instead of the constant "we are pish" negative shite you spout.1 point

While things are up in the air, any points we can get are most welcome. Kelly pulled of two saves of the season, and once again showed the value of a good goalkeeper. Teams are going to get chances at this level, and he's going to win us plenty of points this year. Lamie's tackle was really poor, he was having a really good game and he doesn't tend to leave his feet like that, and it really could have cost us if we were playing against a team that could shoot. I thought Sol was solid enough, but we're really short of pace at the back. Spiers looked nervous, as expected. We probably brought him on to add some legs for the tiring goss (who also had a decent game), which is fair enough, but we ended up overrun. Hopefully we continue to find spots to get youngsters in, they'll be better for it in the long run.1 point

It's a great three points I won't argue with that considering the week we have had. Hammell and Kerr only had yesterday to prepare so all things considered that is a tremendous result.1 point

They are a pair of absolute buffoons who don’t know what the rules are. It’s rather enjoyable to hear them confidently spout the pish they do.1 point

That was an absolute stonewaller. Well done Kev on finishing it and to Goss for getting us into a dangerous forward position. The St Mirren commentators are talking utter pish. He turned his body away from and hit his hand which was sticking out.1 point

I really like that Maguire is constantly offering for the ball off the centre halves, looking in those wee pockets to pick up the ball, but he just doesn’t play any forward passes when he gets it. He refuses to turn and go forward, just constantly backwards or out to Jake Carroll. He needs to turn and play the ball forward.1 point

That's exactly the point. It isn't cheap to travel. It isn't that cheap for some people to buy a season ticket. You pay your money you are entitled to express your feelings. Some fans may go a bit too far. If the best the players and Alexander can come up with is the fans drove me out and the fans are toxic, that makes me laugh. Listen to Fergie talk about his early days at Man Utd. Alexander and the players don't know what toxic is. Grow a pair.1 point

Just heard Stevie Hammell there too on sportsound - quickly out Liam kelly back in his box regarding the fans. Hopefully he can galvanise the players to a result today too1 point

Looking at Twitter Liam Kelly's comments have went down like telling a 5 year old Santa isn't real. There's genuine anger from many at realising the players are not in fact their pals.1 point

That would be the Liam Kelly who is on 200k a year and who conceded 3 goals against a team Motherwell should have beaten easily? Fans are to blame for the fact that Motherwell didn't get the equaliser at Fir Park? With all due respect to Liam that's a load of cobblers. The reason we didn't get the equaliser is because we don't have a prolific striker. Van Veen is too inconsistent. Efford hasn't produced the goods either. Absolutely it can't be nice to be in front of a hostile crowd but that's what happens in football at times. He's kidding himself on if he thinks a supportive crowd would have got us an equaliser. Look at the travelling support we took to the Livi game last season. Fans were behind the team from the off and it took that Lamie strike to secure top six. Kevin Van Veen has spoken to the press and been honest about his own poor performance without pointing the finger at Motherwell fans. Absolutely agree that alcohol in the mix didn't help. Even before kick off at Fir Park police were called to club 100 as it was getting a bit rowdy even though there was no trouble. The word my brother used to describe the team at the Sligo home game was rancid and he maybe missed two home games last season due to work so like a lot of fans he's been watching Motherwell regularly enough to come to a conclusion about how good or bad we are.1 point

I just want to see a team out there today that will give it their all and can give us the victory. And to all fans going to the game, let's get behind the team in the correct manner and create an atmosphere that will spur them on. Been too much negativity in past few days. Let's all get together and hopefully the forum later will be full of joy .... COYW1 point

Picking purely on who Irate as our better players + a formation that suits them Kelly Mcginn Solholm Lamie S'OD Spittal Cornelius Slattery Goss Tierney KVV1 point

Van Veen is the closest we have to someone who might do something exciting, and he has it in him to score from anywhere, but he's falling out of games too easily right now. Tierney has something about him too, where he can find a bit of space and do something positive, but he hasn't found his place in the team yet. Jake Carroll frequently switching from being shit scared of the ball to attempting to murder folk keeps things interesting too.1 point

Between someone grabbing the mic off him and the disgraceful 'only sing in the chapel' song from first leg there is a small minority of our support whose behaviour really is an embarrassment, however it shouldn't over shadow the majority of decent fans who are able to voice their opinion in a civilised manner. Tomorrow let's all get the behind the management and players and hopefully celebrate a league win against buddies.... altogether now....come on yeeee welllllllllll1 point

Other than being friendly with people working at the club what has he done since he left us to redeem his final few months here? Going out and paying for a manger who is on the verge of being sacked by St Mirren a few days after being gubbed by Sligo would confirm us as the new Scottish football laughing stock. It's a non starter.1 point

Hearing the abuse shouted at Alexander when he was giving his post-match interview was really embarrassing. I thought he sounded a bit shaken. I don't care what the industry is, no one should have to go to their job and get shouted and sworn at, no matter what you think of them. He's human and deserves a basic level of respect and anyone who thinks it's okay to address someone else in that manner in any circumstances should take a long hard look at themselves.1 point

Guys like Simo have shown interest before - and then they get told what the budget is and suddenly they aren't so interested. We need stability on one hand, but progression on the other. Not an easy combination to find for any club. Basically, a young old hand with solid fundamental expansive conservative ideas.1 point

Levin's 4-6-0 carried about as much goal threat as we do at the moment so could be a good fit.1 point

I said in the very beginning despite a 7th and 5th league placing our fans had an irrational dislike of Alexander and were just waiting to get him. I said Motherwell fans should manage their expectations as we might well lose - they didn't and we did. I said that Scottish teams at our level have a negligible gap of superiority over League of Ireland and none with start of season fitness - I was right. I said none of our outfield players would be stand outs in the League of Ireland - Sligo were better in every area. I said we'd probably lose last night - again correct. Now instead of going into some demented Daily Mail reader style rant, Motherwell fans have to face reality. We are a small self financed club, we have probably our worst ever squad because we cannot pay wages and we've sold all the family silver and there is nothing left. Alexander has comfortably kept us up with a very weak squads twice. It would be utter folly and an incredible and dangerous risk to fire him now. Bringing in an unproven manager, with this squad, could be a history altering decision for the club and not in a good way. Falkirk anyone? Dunfermline anyone? We lost a Euro tie. Our Euro record is abysmal. 1 win 15. Big surprise. Alexander doesn't get any free pass. He'll be judged on his league results. Now stop this mewling red faced infant tantrum stuff and behave like thinking adults. Back in the day when I was almost a lone voice trying to protect standards at our club I was derided, dismissed even threatened in private messages. Well you know what, that time has passed, sorry Motherwell fans but we are where we are and it's time to eat the gruel YOU ordered. This ridiculous bi polar fan base standing ovations one match, utter rancour the next, sometimes even within matches (Livingston) is going to drag our club down into a very bad place.1 point

You really are an arrogant prick. Judging by your posts you are in a minority of one when it comes to our manager! Oh and if it’s facts you want:- ~ 3 wins in our last 23 league games. ~ Failed to score in 180 minutes against a League of Ireland side who have never ever progressed beyond this round. ~ Only added 3 players in close season all of whom are worse than any of the players we already had. ~ Knowing we’d have an early European tie he failed to get sufficient match practice into his players in preparation. ~ Doesn’t know how to adjust when his game plan A fails and that’s every game.1 point
