  1. I got to admit I'm in a minority of one I think. I didn't think at the game the SOD incident was a penalty and even if there was contact the way he over egged his fall to convince the ref would have got a 0.1 at the Diving Olympics. It looked too contrived and that put enough doubt in the Refs mind it wasn't, even if on another day another ref might have given it. It was balanced out for me when he didn't give St J a penalty with the very last touch of the ball, I've seen them given. So as some have said , he was shite for both teams. Didn't detract from another good game by SOD, and the fact the Saints fans at the end were giving him pelters shows he was doing something right, even if my nerves struggle with the new style. The way he was winding them up after the final whistle just topped off another good team effort. I moaned like fuck during the GA and SK years that it was mind numbing pish we were watching so I'll take the nerves with the decent football. Its been many years since I looked forward as much to going to see us cos its entertaining. Hope it keeps going.

  2. Agreed, the ref seemed to give St.Johnstone a free kick every time one of them fell over, but Motherwell players were being manhandled all over the pitch and got very little from him.

  4. No. McGinn was but SOD is one of a few players who will take the captaincy if for any reason McGinn can't play

  5. Not a bad draw getting Aberdeen who are no great shakes so far this season. It will be a tough one but no reason we can’t go up there and get the win but we need to address the striker issue between now and the end of the window for that to happen. And as a side issue, as always seems to happen when we draw Aberdeen in a Cup, we are playing them the week after at Fir Park in the league so it becomes a double header against them.

  6. No reason why we can't go there and get a positive result. If we can just be more clinical then a win can be achieved. COYW

  7. Has he? And are they? Yesterday’s penalty loss to St.Mirren apart they have had a solid start to the season, sailing through the group stages scoring plenty of goals and notched up two strong league wins, one of which they managed by scoring three goals which is one more than we have managed in our first two league fixtures and yesterday combined. They will beat us next week because of this very simple reason…they have players who can score goals and we don’t. 2-0 home win.

  8. I think the powers at be have did well with the JBA appointment, I know it’s early but I get a better vibe from him that he’s here for the long haul than I did with Wimmer. I liked Wimmer, he seemed a genuinely good guy but I’m not sure whether it was his grasp of English or demeanour but I never felt he looked that comfortable here. JBA looks comfortable, he’s clearly got ambition to do well here, his teams play nice football, his English is phenomenally good, he talks up the support and overall I don’t see any negatives from him so far. Would we have taken over 1000 fans to Perth yesterday under Kettlewell……. That’s a NO!!

  9. Foundations built on sand which were laid under both previous ownerships too come crumbling down. Losing their ā€˜elite’ academy status (which many like the Dundee clubs believed to be ill gotten) meant major loss of funding stream to operate. Don’t think the club envisaged that action. They’re not the first club in recent years to close or pause their academies. Queens Park who are every bit as renowned as Accies ceased their operation this year. Sign of the times? Unfair on ā€˜charlatan’ owner who’s no doubt made mistakes in those he’s employed to oversee operations when the known rogue who owns the ground gets a relatively free ride from those boycotting. Little sympathy for a support who hate us more than they love their own club.

  10. We definitely see this differently. The delivery from Longelo and Sparrow from very good areas was rotten pretty much all game. Maswanhise and Said not much better. If any of the numerous opportunities that presented themselves had been delivered across the 6 yard line, we might not have had to go to extra time. For me, our problems in the last 3rd are more down to poor decision making than anything else. Of course, every player can always do better, and Stama needs to do more with the limited chances he is being given, but his work rate and movement are generally fine in this system.

  11. If the rumoured £800K offer for a player who supposedly cost us £250K was real, then not taking it could prove to be a very foolish decision.

  12. Going to be a tough one but if we can improve on our final third play we are more than capable of winning this but at this minute I’d settle for a point. Having said that, perhaps we will have more room in the final third in this game which we can better exploit.

  13. It’s funny how we all see things differently. I thought the delivery to him was fine and he did get chances, but as usual, he fluffed his lines. He also needs to create his own opportunities, yet he’s often a step behind, which means the killer pass is rarely on for our midfielders. In short, he gets chances but rarely takes them, and he struggles to create anything for himself. Regardless of the delivery, he’s not the answer.

  15. I thought when I said "that's a scientific fact" it was obviously a joke. I do, however, prefer standing to sitting on a pre-assigned, small plastic seat with my knees at my chin, having to stand up every 15 minutes to let people in and out. In particular, it was easier to stay warm in the cold when you were standing, easier to move about to find a good vantage point, and you could even change ends at half time to be closer to the goals we were attacking. You were also always guaranteed to be able to stand beside your mates. I'm sorry you were upset about getting wet when you watched a bad game. With terracing, it was often easier to move to shelter.

  16. Agreed. He totally shat giving their player a second yellow on the touchline when Longelo did him down the line and he sent him up in the air. It was a yellow all day long so he should have been off. Need to see the SOD penalty again but looked like a stone waller in real time.

  17. He said a couple of weeks ago the League Cup games had interfered with the training he wanted to do and that we wouldn't be at the necessary levels until later in the season. It's certainly an intense style of play, but must be a lot more fun to execute than last season (pre-Wimmer).

  18. SOD got booked for diving when one of their players stamped on his ankle. I don't know who it was but quite early on in the game Motherwell fans thought that one of the St Johnstone players was going to get a yellow - the ref just walked over to him gave him a pat on the arm and walked off. Don't think he completely ruined the game but some really questionable decisions there.

  19. McAllister did well on his short run out today. Delighted for him. So hopeful. But to come in right away and impact games is asking a lot. Luca Ross. I'm not so sure. Given the time he has been around the first team squad and the experience gained whilst on loan I would have hoped he would be further ahead than he seems to be. In truth I was surprised we extended his contract. I actually thought he might move on after his loan spell was over. I know he is still only 18 but I think he is a wee bit lightweight. Connolly was another I thought might move on given he is a lot older and has not really featured as a first team player. Maybe there are less opportunities for goalies to impress. And we were discussing youngsters able to take the step up right now and impact games being sidelined by Loanees. I don't see any that are ready. Next season possibly after building up more game time and experience over the course of this season. But not now. But hey, I'm not a coach and I'm probably being a bit harsh. I wish them all well but I don't think any of the youngsters I have seen this season or last are first team ready. It's a tough, physical League. I felt differently when I first saw Miller and Turnbull although I accept that is a high bar. But , for me, even below that level the likes of Scott, Campbell and Hastie had more about them. I had high hopes for Sam Campbell but sadly his knee injury did for him. I really wish Scotland had something like an under 21 League which I believe was critical in the development of so many players over the years. And the matches were a good watch. I feel for kids who reach the age of 17/18 and often have nowhere to go if they cannot step up to the first team squad. Only very few can be loaned out. Late developers have little chance and many youngsters just disappear from the game. It's a harsh world. Cancelling the Reserve League also badly affected youngsters looking to make their way in the game. At least we have the Challenge Cup I guess but games are limited. Ross, McAllister etc playing in a reserve league with a mix of seasoned pros and other youngsters would better prepare them for the step up. But finances dictate as always. Only my view of course. Many will disagree and hopefully I am proved totally wrong. I'd be delighted if that proves to be the case and Luca Ross and Zander McAllister turn out to be the next Turnbull and Miller. You can say ' I told you so' if that happens.

  20. Can I just say the football we are playing right now is an absolute joy to watch. We are totally dominating teams in terms of possession and are brave in all areas of the park. We need to be more clinical but that will come. All I can say is I was really struggling the last few years watching Motherwell - it was a real chore at times, but now it’s fantastic to see us play actual football and get the rewards for being brave.
