  1. Wow. You just love getting the boot in. I have said it before and will again, we need to stop and remember where this team was last season and judge JBA on that. Yes we have had a dip in form but to pick apart the season with that statement above is ridiculous. I have absolutely loved this season, it’s the best football I have seen at Fir Park and long may it continue.

  2. Nuance & perspective are wonderful things! Clearly JBA isnt a Motherwell legend (yet), but he deserves a little more credit than he is being afforded in some quarters. The number of draws we got in the first quarter of the season were a little disappointing given how well we played at times, but they were achieved by a manager and team trying to bed in new players and a totally new system. Mistakes were made and a few wins slipped out of our grasp. Disapppointing but understable. However, we did slowly improve and after the League Cup semi final exit (reaching Hampden seems to have been turned into a negative) we seemed to have unlocked the secret to a water tight defence and results improved. Our record against the top 6 is held up as a weakness this season. Yet we are undefeated against Hearts, have drawn twice against Rangers at home, lost narrowly at Ibrox after a hotly disputed penalty claim. Beaten Celtic resoundingly at Fir Park, lost twice narrowly at Parkhead in keenly contested matches, unbeaten against Hibs home & away. Only Falkirk have got the better of us. So our poor record is actually a myth if you turn it around and ask what the top 6 teams record against Motherwell is. The Aberdeen Cup game was a sore one and Jens has to hold his hands up a little for the starting selection, but the the state of the pitch, weather and 2 red cards are at least mitigating factors. We have broken all sorts of records this season with least goals conceded at home, clean sheets records, longest home run without a defeat, attendances etc etc. Of course the wheels have come off a little bit and you could argue that the pressure of being involved in a potential title race got to us, but you have to factor in the recent injuries, suspensions and some really chronic refereeing decisions. Has Jens been perfect? No. Have the team been perfect? No. But whilst our deficiencies have been shown up in recent weeks, its still the best season I can remember for quality of football and entertainment, and we are still sitting with a GD of +25 in April. Picking holes in an otherwise fantastic season is easy to do and if you ignore the circumstances, you can make a compelling case, but just as circumstances can fall for you, they can also conspire against you, despite you having control over neither.

  3. You’ve done it again! In your previous message you claimed our manager is bang average and in this one you are doing the exact same thing in pulling out stats to suit a narrative. We are clearly not going to win every game so beyond that you look at the performances and most have been very good even when we have drawn or lost. Stop trying to make this something it’s not. We have had an excellent season, have a great team and a very good manager.

  4. Garbage is what we watched last season, ok we’ve been poor the last couple of games - mainly due to not adapting to teams pushing up on us and some slack passing - but garbage? Think you need to get a bit of perspective mate.

  5. We were second best over the piece yesterday, no getting away from that, but that is going to happen when you are motherwell. Goals change games though, and f**k me we were hard done by from the officials. Seriously, what is the point in VAR - get involved when they shouldn't and posted missing when needed. Genuinely sick to death of it. Jens has every right to have a pop given what we have been on the end of recently. I wonder if lissah will get the same retrospective punishment as slattery, because said having his arms out certainly didnt make him fall to the ground.

  6. John Mcglynn is a good manager as is jens...some merit in what you say but i don't agree with most of what uou say....I doubt the board do either. He's managed to just about double the home support which I thought was impossible and something I haven't seen in about 50 years even with teams who have won cups. So the majority of punters must like " tippy tappy " football. We really missed Slattery which I suspected we would.

  7. True. Personally, I hope they don't. Their fans seem to have a real problem with Motherwell, whether they're greetin about getting relegated at Fir Park, being refused promotion while we stayed up, or (as I read today) their keeper getting sent off in 1992 for mouthing off about a Falkirk free-kick that turned into a shy (immediately followed by a goal) for us. I suppose they had plenty of time to seethe in the lower divisions.

  8. Before my time, but Bobby Ancell would probably qualify as a legend to most older fans.

  9. All forums are like this. I read a lot of them. Celtic won the league by beating Motherwell Celtic lost the league against Dundee United. Iheanacho couldn't score in a barrel of.....worst signing of all time Goal: Iheanacho

  10. I'll be rooting for the Pars to knock them out for these reasons.

  11. Matt, this guy lives for reactions , some people need to look up definition of " supporter", we didn't play well yesterday but again would have taken something if officials/ var were on it I fancy us to get something at Tynecastle any team that can double crowds is doing a lot right...unprecedented

  12. Cmon you are a wee bit angry for nothing here. Whilst our record against Top 6 is at a minus we have played them all home and away and giving them all really good games which is certainly a big change from sitting on our own 18 yard line waiting to get beat. This tippy tappy football that you and some others have mentioned is the same type of football that has played a lot of teams off the park and the same that is played by our European neighbours when pumping our Europe entries every July. No plan b is another myth. We went to 3 at back against hibs. played with a false 9 against celtic and went longer when byorgolfson was available. Yesterday we had no other players available due to injury and suspension as if we did I'm sure maswanhise would have been wide and we would have attempted long balls to give him 1v1 on the left back. On john McGlynn yes he has done a gd job but he has not done as gd a job as jens as can be seen on the table and if you or anyone who suggests falkirk will finish above us in the table wants a bet with the loser paying to Well Society let's get it on. Put your money where your mouth is as the saying goes.

  13. Can I ask why it fell to Lukas Fadinger yesterday to mark a 6-3 in form striker at Fakirk's opening goal?

  14. Re the potential penalty I do wonder if the recent faux par from VAR (Slattery) has some impact in terms of not overruling the ref. I thought the ref gave us zero benefit of doubt yesterday and VAR backed him up. A couple of challenges on Longello as he charged down the flank, TW penalty claim I do wonder if the ref went into to game with the intention of not being conned. It certainly felt like that from my biassed perspective. Add to that we've lost confidence, some players are off the boil, teams have learned how to counter act, we have several injuries etc - it's no way near the same entertainment as earlier in the season. The squad lacks depth but I do think a couple of the fringe players deserve a start next week.

  15. You make some good points although your take is a bit harsh. He's been a very good manager for achieving a top six finish and introducing some very exciting and entertaining football. Thats not easy in your first season in charge. I do feel that though some fans have been OTT in their praise especially on P & B. He's not a legend yet and might never be who knows? On the debit side, he's seemed unable to fine tune our style to combat and counteract opponents evolving tactics eg Hibs and Falkirk. On the credit side he's had to impose his own style on a squad which, to a large extent, he didn't sign. Taking yesterday for example, he had to field a weakened first 11 and pick a very thin bench. It will be interesting, in the summer to find out who leaves who he moves on and who he brings in. If we are ambitious i.e. not resting on our laurels after achieving a top 6 finish then the squad needs strengthened in almost all areas of the pitch. Any circling vultures will have received a reality check of late.

  16. Tbf they were difficult calls for the referee in real time, but as michael Stewart said on sportscene what are Var looking for, how are they not calling the ref for a review, another shit show from them for both decisions.

  17. He’s just doing what JBA tells him. Blame the manager, not the players.

  18. Falkirk (and McGlynn) did a number on us again today. Their press was very clever. They waited time and again for the ball to go to our full backs (mostly SOD) which triggered them to go mob handed to close the full back and the midfielders that side blocking off all the available outballs other than back the way or over the top. They were more than happy for Ward or the CBs to have the ball. We struggled with it all afternoon and it caused a fair amount of disruption to our usual passing / possession game. That said, the goals we lost were all very poor. The first is a free header with Fadinger being the culprit for losing his man (he hasnt been at all himself wearing that mask. I do wonder if it obstructs his vision). The second comes from the aforementioned press, but should have been cleared by McGinn and/or Watt who plays a totally blind pass putting Ward in trouble. The third just isnt a penalty, or there would be 20 penalties a game. Overall we had 14 shots to their 12 with 5 on target to their 4. So even though we were off it in terms of performance and Falkirk deserved to win, the stats for us werent horrific. The fine margins are going against us at the moment, so we are going to have to dig deep and find a performance from somewhere. Slightly concerned that there was no Eyrhor today as it left the bench looking very weak. Although I did think Priestman, Nicholson and McGhee all looked decent when they came on. Maybe we need to freshen the starting 11 up next week?

  19. I'm no sure he's blaming the officials for our defeat, but let's be honest, it was a stonewall penalty and a red card for the Falkirk player early on. We saw how that can change a game the other week. And their 3rd goal was never a penalty. We're struggling a bit just now, but carrying absolutely no luck and been on the wrong end of some horrendous decisions recently.

  20. Sometimes I like to ride bareback through the fields with the wind in my hair. Only when the mood takes me though.

  21. I don’t know about the first one but I just gave you a second for calling JBA a legend. He is NOT a legend. He has been good for us this season but after a very impressive spell from November to February we are falling away badly and are now in serious danger of throwing away 4th place. Our record against the top six is awful, McGlynn and Falkirk have had his/our number all season and unlike us are a pretty solid, competitive side. And they are in the Scottish Cup Semi Final, the same Scottish Cup we whimpered out of partly thanks to Jens needlessly and arrogantly not fielding our strongest team against Aberdeen. JBA has done absolutely nothing so far either in his time with us or in his coaching career to merit being called a legend. We failed to win a League match until the end of September after chucking away several points from winning positions in the first five games of the season, got our arses handed to us by a woeful St.Mirren side in the LCSF, haven’t won away against any of the sides in the top 9 never mind top 6 and appear be peaked and burst before the split. JBA? Just Bang Average

  22. JBA a legend but a bit annoyed he seems to be deflecting blame onto officials . Yip referee was shocking but not reason we lost. Should focus more on our own players
