  2. As much as I liked Ward, £800k for a keeper who isn’t that great a keeper in his final year of contract….. when we got him for nothing…… is a decent bit of business.

  3. Know how when doing his weekly predictions on Football Focus Mark Lawrenson had Liverpool going undefeated for something like 5 years straight? Same, but different.

  4. I agree, £800 k great business. I fully get the distribution part but I am old fashioned and also like my keepers coming for crosses and saving shots. Certainly done us a turn and very grateful but I feel we can get a replacement in just as good or even better

  5. I reckon Priestman is going to be a huge player for us this season

  6. Hold on a minute, 1992 was only... FUCK RIGHT OFF! a long time ago, are we old now? middle aged? past it? Should ban you for the reminder

  7. It's cute that you think 1990 is the "modern era"

  11. It'll come down to what the manager wants I guess. Maybe he'll look at Connolly and see a starter in him? I think if we're all honest, we likely never saw Ward as the clear number 1 for Jens last year at this time, and it worked out that way.

  12. Very true pal. Hopefully our scouting team will be looking for similar style of goalie. I just was never really that sold on Ward, goes with my best wishes though

  13. The problem is, we don't play like an old fashioned team. If the new manager has been brought in based on continuity around how we play, as we've been told, then an old fashioned shot-stopper isn't going to cut the mustard.

  14. Aye we had the same drivel last year when JBA arrived, and when Wimmer arrived etc etc. Apoarently we could be bottom of the league by the end of August, so still in contention for 4 trophies then, i can live with that.

  15. On the bright side, if all our good players do get sold, Alfred has a blank slate and a shitload of dough to build his own team....

  18. Ach we’ll be fine, not the first time we’ve lost half our players, and it won’t be the last. It is the first time however we potentially lose 4 /5 of our players for circa £10m quid.

  19. You are not alone. After the euphoria of last season, I was looking forward to a bit of continuity and seeing the team take the next step in the 26/27 season. However, the way that things seem to be panning out it looks like we'll struggle to have much early season success. I'm not doubting the recruitment team or manager's ability to get it done, just the timing of it all. I'm not here yet, but any thoughts of a European run are rapidly fading, even before a ball is kicked.

  20. Again , we are a selling club. Everyone says it and every other team knows it. It's been said a million times every player is for sale if the price is right. Our right price is a small price for English teams to take a chance with. What do folk expect after an outstanding season. If we block any moves that has a knock on effect with new signings comming in to get a move up later on. It's were we are at least we are making decent money out of it. Feel a bit sorry for manager tho having rug pulled from under him after he signed up.

  21. Agree it feels like that however both jens & the chairman have said previously we wont be selling everyone at once. Could we end up keeping hold of the ones we thought were heading out the door......

  22. Not gona lie, im a glass moderately full kinda guy but this is turning into a full rebuild in almost every position given who has gone and going, a couple of weeks before europe starts with a new manager.......................... Less than ideal imo

  23. He has one year to go and we have year's option in addition.

  24. 800k is good business and we should be in a decent position to find a suitable replacement and if we can get ox off the wage bill as well then even better.

  25. Agreed. While not perfect, won't be easy to replace at all. Made a major contribution for us last season.

  26. To be candid I’m concerned were cash rich and talent poor. To lose the core of manager , keeper , defenders , mid and attack we’re in a tough spot . At the weekend a few people asked why weren’t xyz all playing - simple answer could be they’re all off to pastures new . For the new gaffer this is a tough gig after last seasons high

  27. A European run was never happening, even had JBA stayed imo. We would still have lost key players and have been short of options come the tie. But as I said I’m not overly concerned about Europe, the real test comes when the league season begins and we’ve got a lot of work to do to be ready for that.
