That was absolutely amazing tonight. I’m not a fan of us playing in Europe but that was the best Euro game I’ve seen at Fir Park. Superb night.

Another superb night at FP and congratulations to all of the players and the manager and his staff. A great result for the club and it takes our club’s profile up yet another notch. Games under the FP lights have always been special for us and this was a fantastic experience especially for our younger fans. I know Freiburg will be a big step up for us but you want to test yourself against big sides. It’s the only way to improve.

That was absolutely magnificent tonight. They started quite well in terms of possession, and we looked a bit nervous for 15 minutes, but gradually we took control and a very enjoyable evening ensued. We have replaced our outgoing players very sensibly so far, although another signing or two wouldn't go amiss and although there were a few slack passes and some dubious decisions from the ref, at no time did I feel worried that they would put us under any real pressure, This time last year all the short passes in the 18 yard box scared me Sh*tless but now it is just amusing to watch the opposition run sideways like headless chickens. Add in that AJ is an absolute pleasure to listen to, and I think this year could be even better than last year. What a great time to be a 'Well fan.

I need to comment on the Referee. In the two European ties the referees have been streets ahead of the utter shite that passes for refereeing in Scotland. Let the game flow. Compare it to that fud who refereed the Falkirk game. Most Scottish games the chat after the game revolves around the referees incompetence. Two European ties and no such discussions.

Typical crapola from the BBC. On Sportsound it took them over 45 minutes to mention Hibs or Motherwell from the time I got into the car to come home, while they obsessed about Rangers being rank. This was a great team performance tonight and it was so encouraging to see us maintain our passing game with the new manager and a squad in transition. The confidence the younger players will get from being trusted later on in the game will be important (brave decision by Alfred) and I thought Whyte looked very assured. Lowry seems to be more confident now that he knows his role and his linking work on the turn for Said's first goal was excellent: shades of Just? A fantastic atmosphere and full credit to The Bois, who never stopped singing all night. It's a great time to be a 'Well fan because i really feel we can only get better.

You weren't alone, I thought he was pretty poor for a while first half. To be fair though, he didn't hide and certainly grew into the game late first half and into the second.

If someone can point me towards an all round better performance from a Motherwell team i will stand corrected...incredible performance all over the park. Exceptional

We've come on leaps and bounds as a club over the 2 years. The best football we've been treated to in living memory. That eradicated some of the previous underwhelming performances when the crowds were high etc. I've never seen us have control like this in European ties - very good first half and for 20 mins of the second half we were outstanding. Stand up and sing.🎶

I'd certainly hope we're spending a bit more on players than we were, and not just because we have money to spend at the moment. It should be part of the model. We have progressed from getting players on a free transfer and hoping to get a million or so for them, to spending a couple of hundred grand and hoping to get a bigger profit margin, and now we're looking at players who cost around half a million and while the ceiling in what we can command in transfer fees is real, we'd hope that spending that half a million means the player is more likely to be worth four or five million in a year or two. It's not an exact science, of course, but it stands to reason that someone valued at half a million with the pedigree that Hodge has is more likely to have a higher ceiling than someone we get for nothing and who doesn't quite have that background. A calculated risk for sure, but hopefully it'll pay off more often than not. And that's not to mention that we are able to sign players on longer deals when we're spending more, rather than a season at a time.

I have a lot of time for SOD, never hides and always gave his all even when going through that barren spell where the abuse he got from some was ridiculous. Last season you could see how much he improved under a good manager rather than hoofball from you know who

I saw that. If true, its certainly a statement. Would be close to a club record fee paid for a player I would imagine. I know we did get a helluva lot more than that for Watt, so the money is there, but even still. Alfred did make a point of saying we would stick to the model that has been successful, so we wont be throwing cash around left, right and centre. But it certainly allows us to target a higher calibre player than we maybe could in the past. Obviously with the caveat we will be hoping to develop Hodge into another Eli Just type fee in a couple of years. Good times.

Excellent Podcast SOD comes across as a very decent guy. Maybe a bit too self deprecating, but thats a very Scottish thing. Such a good guy to have around the club right now when there is so much change going on. Glad he is getting to finish his Motherwell career on a high enjoying some good times.

We don't need to try and replace Eli. We "just" need to build an effective midfield that works with Alfred's preferred style. Last season's midfield was different from the midfield that had Miller and Spittal, but it turned out OK.
