  1. I suspect I need to lower my expectations. Neither Obika or Paton fill me with enthusiasm. If we're to improve as a team we need to improve our starting 11. There's plenty of stick being flung around at brining back ex-players who were once good. Bringing back players from last year who were ok squad players feels pretty meh. Not trying to offend or write anyone off here. Hope they both prove to be decent.
  2. We certainly got the most from him. great technical ability and loved seeing him bang in the gaols .
  3. that's interesting. with a 50% strike rate of goals to game over last 2 seasons the boy clearly knows where the goals are. more so than many others we have signed. appreciate there's a levelling in terms of leagues etc but this fills me some optimism.
  4. Harrogate are my local team and certainly progressed in recent years. What saddens me is the standard of SPL and who we're competing with is on par with the English 4th tier. Always a kick in the nuts that our relative stature has fallen in the last 3-4 decades.
  5. SK made it reasonably clear that he'd have this guy back and to be fair SK deserves a bit of leeway given his results as a manager. Putting personal views to aside the stats outline 32 years old, scored 66 goals from his 333 appearances over his 15 years as a pro. Suggests he only ever plays half a season in terms of games. will score 1 in every 5-6 games.
  6. That's cool. Can live with that. Hadn't thought too much about Carson & Gillespie. From our current squad there's a few people that we'd love to keep. At least 2 of them are leaving, wouldn't want Kelly to fall into that category and be moved on for a few hundred k
  7. We’re all allowed opinions . carson and Gillespie we’re both very good . Personally I think Kelly has been better
  8. For first half of the season we had a very poor defence in front of Kelly gifting goals every week . as soon as butcher and Casey arrived we tightened up and Kelly got back to normal form . best keeper we’ve had since likes of Randolph
  9. Yes , absolutely he’s been excellent .
  10. To be fair a few of them will be away on hols and considering options i find it more concerning that we offered so many contracts in the first instance . As mentioned some very ordinary players who just aren’t good enough . goss is one of the few that’s about the right level
  11. Would like to think we can do better than Paton, a lot better. Goss played majority of games last year, think he'll sign back on. We could do with having a ball winner in midfield. Butcher was brought in for this albeit proven to be excellent in defence. Need someone else like that.
  12. Valid point. Looking at current first team squad we already have c18 players. I'm hoping we bring in quality rather than quality. Ideally several of existing squad also get moved on to better things.
  13. I really hope we don't resign any of the strikers who were with us since Feb. When I look at the current squad it's more likely that goals will come from midfield (Spittal & Tierney) than our forwards and Tierney gets very little game time. Sell KVV with a clause that all other strikers also need to be taken as well.
  14. He's a very capable player and like you say one of the first picks on the team sheet under Hammell. Just don't believe our set up works for him/us. Wish the lad all the best, born and bread and came back to home to make it work. More than capable of walking into another SPL team and being a regular.
  15. Bob Malcolm - that got me thinking of this list of chaps I'd forgotten ever played for us.
  16. KVVs and Turnbulls both very good contract extensions by the club - either way we benefit.
  17. and he signed his brother Jon- who was defo not the standard of John Spencer - Frank Spencer maybe
  18. Good for all parties. He wasn't able to make it as a first team regular and no longer a kid. He needs to be playing on a weekly basis. Can see him the championship for a year or so to get the regular games he needs. Either that or another ex-player heading to Paisley.
  19. Moult and Aarons was in large part due to the amount of players available late on in the transfer window. The poor recruitment of GA during pre season didn't leave much on the table for Hammell to deal with. FWIW although I'm supportive of brining players back, it needs to be those who were decent first time around. Im all for Phil, McDonald, McFadden coming back. Aarons, Lawless, Toastie etc not so much.
  20. I'm with you @weeyin. I don't know the stats but many clubs have previous players return. It's reasonable for players to have an affiliation with a club and return for a 2nd period of their career. For as long as I can remember we have a reputation of being a friendly club that looks after and cares about players. Personal view this is something to celebrate , I struggle to see why some are keen to villanise the approach, particularly when many of those returning have been of excellent quality.
  21. The purist in my agrees - top club gets promoted and 2nd top gets the play off . that said the championship had nearly all teams playing for something til the last game . As much as there’s a lack of fairness it at least keeps everything interesting for as long as possible .
  22. Very true - Owen Coyle is a good example of a lightweight who was good enough .
  23. I like Cornelius , has a good attitude, local lad and works his socks off. Adds a bit of energy. Primary concern is he's now 22, has been around the first team for 5 years and hasn't held down a regular first team place. Although a different type of player it's similar to Maguire. Good local lad who perhaps won't quite make it in the SPL.
  24. cracking goal , he certainly has the skill. If he's able to sharpen up and better time challenges he'll be a great asset.
