I’m not going to overreact to tonight’s performance or result, but there are some glaring issues that need sorting: We badly need a proper back-up—or even a replacement—for Oxborough. Ward was poor tonight. We need a left-back who’s genuinely ahead of Wilson. SOD should be shown the door. He was appalling yet again. We’ve still not replaced Casey. Maybe McGhee fills that gap, but I’d still want another option ahead of Balmer. We need a proper successor to Miller. It’s not Elliot Watt or Halliday. Maswanhise isn’t the answer. We need a proper winger. Stama isn’t the answer either. We need a big, athletic centre-forward who can actually lead the line. Passing out from the back? It’s never going to work with this keeper and this defence. And do we even know what our best formation is? Where do Sparrow and Fadinger fit? You could ask this of others as well. On the plus side, a few of the young lads stepped up under difficult circumstances. I thought number 30, Campbell Forrest, was the standout in midfield. And the manager now has a much clearer picture of what he’s working with, and what he still needs.

It’s good to see a bunch of the young lads get some minutes against a quality team.

We’re all over the place tonight. Playing like strangers. Twente are dirty pricks.

Definitely this. While all the necessary information was included in the voting package, it wasn’t particularly easy to digest or navigate. Perhaps something for the Well Society to reflect on. Yes. Otherwise there’s a very real risk of consultation fatigue setting in, especially when combined with the constant stream of weekly updates. There’s a balance to be struck in engaging members.

All eight proposals have been approved by members. A total of 410 votes were cast from a potential pool of 2,820 adult members – a turnout of 14.5%. It’s a disappointing response rate and raises valid questions about how many of those 2,820 are actively contributing via a monthly direct debit. The lack of engagement suggests that not all of them are.

A quarter of the Premiership will now be played on dogshit astroturf, and we’re all just meant to pretend that’s acceptable? Fuck off. If you can’t grow grass in Scotland, you’ve no right playing professional football.

Oh dear. This is your best/worst yet. Are you okay?

Watt signs 2-year deal. https://www.motherwellfc.co.uk/2025/06/26/elliot-watt-becomes-our-latest-signing/

I can see the reasoning behind the proposed amendments, and Philip’s responses have helped clarify the membership status issue. Ultimately, a line does need to be drawn somewhere, and this seems like a fair and reasonable approach. We’ve got a great opportunity to move forward now and further add to the coffers.

Paging SOD, Halliday, McGinn, and Nicholson.

Dom Thomas signs for Ayr United. Phew.
-
Nothing. He was out of contract.
-
It’s being reported that Matty Connelly is heading back to EK on loan, which I’m guessing means we’ve offered him a contract extension.
-
He’s got a decent CV: https://uk.linkedin.com/in/max-rogers-34442042

There’s a rumour on Twitter that Wimbledon are interested in Sparrow. Feels unlikely.

Arrogance in a football manager is only ever useful when it’s balanced by self-awareness. Alexander has none. He’s an insufferable twat who humiliated us and still acts like he did nothing wrong.
-
I’ve always believed Alexander to be an arrogant prick, and his sudden reappearance in this debate only confirms it. As for Kettlewell, his conduct around his Motherwell exit and the ensuing media charade revealed him to be both cowardly and dishonest. Given how both have singled out Motherwell fans as the villains in a sport full of difficult fanbases, I genuinely hope neither enjoys much success in their managerial careers.

You’ve been duped by AI. The supposed ‘author’ is just a brand and not a real person. The books on multiple clubs are mass-produced and full of shite.

Great to hear from the Chairman in this episode.

According to Transfermarkt, this is Stuparević’s career so far: CF – 87 RW – 16 AM – 3 LW – 1 RM – 1

Maswanhise definitely fits that mould on the left, but with this being Luca Ross’ first season in the first team and Nicholson likely set for another season on the physio table, we clearly need to bring in more attacking options. And you’re probably right about Stama being a second striker option.

If you fling enough shit at a wall...

Putting the SOD and McGinn debate to one side, our biggest issue in recent seasons has been a leaky defence when playing with three centre-backs and wingbacks. At present, we’ve no natural wingbacks and only a few senior centre-backs. A switch to a back four is long overdue, and hopefully JBA makes that change. It might even resolve the SOD/McGinn dilemma in the process.
-
I’m not entirely sure why, but I’ve got a feeling JBA will prove to be a better manager than Wimmer. Though to be fair to Wimmer, his sample size is small. Maybe it’s because JBA has a clean slate, the chance to bring in several new players, and much of the dross has now been cleared out.
-
Surely, with the incoming Miller millions, JBA will be backed to bring in a proven striker capable of 10–15 goals a season.
