Rumour has it Dobbie is on something around £6K a week down South. If that's true, no wonder we couldn't compete. That's just silly money for a mid-table Championship side to be honest.

MM chats to the BEEB......... Dobbie demands denied Motherwell Motherwell could not offer Dobbie terms to match those promised by Swansea Motherwell manager Mark McGhee says he failed in an attempt to sign striker Stephen Dobbie because he could not match the wages offered in England. The 26-year-old has agreed to join Championship club Swansea City when his contract with Queen of the South expires at the end of the season. "We tried to sign Stephen Dobbie, but he went to Swansea for money we couldn't afford," said McGhee. The Motherwell boss made approaches to two other players on Thursday. "I tried to sign two players yesterday, I'm speaking to another player today and we've got another coming on trial next week," said McGhee, who has begun the process of speaking to Motherwell players whose contracts expire in the summer. "The players who are out of contract here have not given me a definitive answer. "They all say they want to keep their options open, which they are entitled to do." Goalkeeper Graeme Smith, defenders Brian McLean and Bob Malcolm, plus midfielder Stephen Hughes are nearing the completion of their current deals. Meanwhile, Motherwell are also hoping to sign defender Maros Klimpl, who has been on loan from Midtjylland but will be free to leave the Danish club in the summer.

I've got Eliphas Shivute's top from when he played for Namibia (and scored twice) against Ivory Coast a while back. If I can make it, I'll wear that one.... -

ITV.com say....... Fair play to Scotland Published: 08/05/2009 Motherwell are in line for a place in the Europa League qualifying rounds after UEFA confirmed Scotland had earned a sixth European place via the Fair Play League. A UEFA spokesman confirmed that Scotland are in the top three of the new table, which will be published in full later on Friday afternoon. It is understood Motherwell are currently heading the race for the extra place courtesy of their position in Scotland's Fair Play table, which is compiled by the Scottish Football Association. Hibernian and St Mirren are also in the running for the European spot. The SFA take into account a range of criteria, including yellow and red cards, crowd behaviour, the actions of club officials and match reports by SPL delegates. The table is not made public but the SFA are expected to keep the relevant clubs informed of their progress in the final few weeks of the season. The club who top the table at the end of the season will take part in the first qualifying round of the new Europa League on July 2/9. Falkirk have already qualified for the Europa League after reaching the Homecoming Scottish Cup final, while Hearts, Dundee United and Aberdeen are battling for the two spots available through the Clydesdale Bank Premier League. Celtic and Rangers will take part in the Champions League, with the SPL champions going straight into the group stages. Norway and Denmark are the other countries to gain an extra European place via UEFA's system of ranking countries for fair play. Manchester City qualified for the UEFA Cup via the same route this season. -
Attacking being the optimum word. There was sporadic football played by them as well I seem to recall....

If the BBC are to be believed, then as Hibs are our nearest challengers they received 3 bookings tonight. Match that (or less) on Saturday and also whatever Saint Mirren get and we've lost no ground. -

It'd be magic to sing at the last game of the season "we're all going on another European Tour" just a few short weeks after everyone was more or less convinced the season was a total failure. This would put a nice shine on what has been a bit of a downer. -
Daily Ranger reports that we lost out on Dobbie along with the sooper hoops of Loftus Road (QPR) and also Ipswich to go to Swansea.

It's surely gotta be as it was when UEFA decided. Their rule is table as it stands end of April, which would mean us. You can imagine if it's tight and the good old SPL decide it's as it stands at the end of the season (and between us and Saint Mirren), guess who'll be at the wind up on Saturday. Another Man City on the cards?!?! The BBC have made an arse of the report - the early rounds are July, not June.... -

As I understand it, they release the final table and the top three countries simply get an extra place for them to distribute. Just then depends on where we've finished in our own competition. Should be tomorrow..... -
The bottom four teams could be only a point apart on Sunday night if results go certain ways. Would be an amazing climax to the season if it went down to the wire on the Saturday. We gotta win on Saturday and I imagine the guys who take to the field have got to at least show a bit of pride.

Pretty sure they mean attacking football. Which rules out the Old Firm in Europe, and Chelsea for that matter!! Think, despite things, we've on the whole tried to play positive football. Saint Mirren, on the other hand, are experts and playing anything but. -

Don't think anyone knows for sure. UEFA aint quite like the SPL and release stuff before due dates as it were. I remember a few years ago discovering the fixtures for the new season the night before they were due to be released on the SPL's website, can't recall UEFA doing similar blunders (they only do them live!)... -

I'd be absolutely speechless if that mob beat us to it. This table is up-to-date but includes the week-end and our four yellows (which don't count as the qualifying point is up to the end of April).... Soccernet I imagine Radio Scotland were trawling the net and found this story....(check the date).... Way, way back........ -
Cheers, must've just gone up after I posted. Well done the young lads, I'd play them Saturday after that performance against a very experienced side!

We went after MacKay early this year did we not.... Dundee move for Livingston pair Dundee have had bids accepted by First Division rivals Livingston for Dave MacKay and Murray Davidson. Both men will now have to decide whether they would be interested in a switch to Tayside. It would be the second spell at Dens Park for full-back MacKay, 29, who spent six years there before joining Oxford United in 2005. Midfielder Davidson, 21, came through the youth system at Almondvale, making his first-team debut last season. A number of other clubs have also indicated their interest in signing the Livingston duo, while last week the West Lothian club rejected an offer from Dundee for Scotland B striker Leigh Griffiths. Dundee manager Jocky Scott announced earlier this week that he was going to release four players - Ludovic Roy, Freddie Daquin, David O'Brien and Bob Davidson - at the end of the season as he begins to build for next term.
