The owner's approach is to bring in some promising youngsters (for a relatively small fee) with the aim to sell them on for a profit. While the initial outlay is slightly larger, to me that is a more sustainable business model than bringing in players of free transfers and then releasing them free 2 years later.

People that know about these things (like Alex Ferguson) say it takes 2 years to build a team. Arsene Wenger says when it a player changes leagues, it takes 6 months for them to adapt. Forget last January's necessary, but short term buying - this is the start of the rebuilding. It's been 3 games.

Folks are probably bored with me repeating myself, but I did think Taylor was a gamble fitness (and match-fitness) wise for a high tempo debute at Tynecastle. I thought he'd have been better served with a run out in the U20s for a game or two - but maybe, like Long, we promised him game time.

I think it's fair to say that even when we were challenging for the top 3 we were pretty inconsistent. Last time we finished 2nd we had had the least number of draws in the league. It was win our bust - fortunately we managed to keep scoring goals.

I'm willing to give our biggest wage the benefit of the doubt for a few weeks given that he missed the pre-season and is having to learn to link with our new signings. As much as Skippy helped Erwin last season (and seemed like a lot), I think Big Lee helped Skippy's game too. Of course, he was also playing higher up the park last season, which helped.

Aye, we have new players to bed in plus a tough start to the season. Way too soon to start hitting the panic button - although no doubt we'll see plenty of that on here in the next few weeks. I would have been delighted with 6pts from the first 4 games, but won't be starting to make any kind of judgement until the first round of fixtures has been completed. Forget last season when we had to pull in all those players just for numbers. We are rebuilding this season and anything around mid-table will be a success. Still wouldn't have started Taylor tonight, though.

Too early in the season to make judgements. With Fletcher, Moult, Ripley and Taylor bedding in and Skippy missing a preseason, it's always going to take a few weeks at best for the team to take shape. I still wouldn't have thrown Taylor into this particular game though. At least guys like Leitch and Chalmers are up to SPFL speed.

A Tyncastle debut for a new signing who might not even be match fit yet maybe a bad idea?

All I said was I don't know if Taylor should start at Tynecastle the day after he signed. No doubt he'll get plenty of game time (assuming he performs for us). Although if we sign another midfielder like Baraclough was hinting, someone will be disappointed every week.

It wasn't his inujry problems that made him bad mouth every team he played for.

If he's crap, we can blame Tom Hateley for telling him what a great club we are.

Giving Taylor a few days to settle in and get used to his new teammates is hardly sentimental. Maybe everyone on here has seen him perform well already this season. I suspect he's not match fit and will need a game or two to find his feet. If he plays from the start, more power to him.

That's what annoyed me about Kerr. Bags of talent, but what he possessed in ability he made up for in equal measures with poor attitude. Thought he'd made it at Newcastle and just expected it to continue without applying any effort.

You say "International Class Player", Reading says "good enough for a League Two" loan. He may or may not be a great signing, but I still wouldn't drop him in at Tynecastle as a first team starter. Oh, and Brian Kerr was an international class footballer with 2 more caps than Taylor.

But a guy who hasn't kicked a ball in anger is ready for a Tyenecaslte debut? He might be, but I'm not sure I'd be taking that risk. I wouldn't be surprised to see him come on as a sub, but I'd be surprised to see him start.

Mostly because Taylor hasn't kicked a ball for us. I would expect Leitch to keep his place.

Be surprised if we started Ainsworth, Johnson, Skippy and Taylor together.

A quick scan of a few match reports seem to indicate he plays centre mid more often than left side.

I see in the Times this morning Yogi wants to bring Vigurs back to ICT if he can get the budget.
