  1. A bit like Brian Kerr - has the footballing talent, not always the application to match. We do need a footballer in the middle of the park though, and haven't signed one yet.
  2. If you go back through the history on here, he was continually held up as an example of a player that left us and went on to better things. Don't hear it so often now, right enough.
  3. The St Mirren scout will be getting his jotters for missing that one.
  4. Well we did get a good sell-on for the tractor on Gumtree.
  5. Officially 4. So if we are playing 4-3-3 that gives us one sub. But of course depends on how you classify guys like Lawless.
  6. Campbell's a bit like Turnbull in that it's unlikely we can find a direct replacement. However, the upside of losing so many players means GA can build a team to play the style he wants, and bring the personnel to play that style. Of course the downside to that is you need to get recruitment mostly spot-on at the first attempt.

Beaten by the last World Cup finalists wasn't exactly a surprise. Sadly, our complete lack of fire power was also unsurprising. It's like watching Motherwell in the first half of last season.
  8. We were never going to qualify for one simple reason. We can't score goals. While the rest of the team aren't world beaters, they are good enough to match up to other 3rd place teams. Inability to score, however, will kill you every time.
  9. Does a 2000 fan minimum mean clubs like Accies need to throw people into the ground to make up the necessary numbers? (Aye, I know it doesn't - it just seems a very weird way to phrase it).
  10. I miss the old days when you could sign players without the need to swoop.
  11. And Leicester City should never have signed Jamie Vardy from Fleetwood Town. Probably a good idea to write him off now. Then when we coach him into a better player, the usual suspects can start complaining about not tying down players to longer contracts and moaning that we never get high transfer fees.

Although, Robinson had the opposite view that he sometimes didn't have enough self-belief.
  13. Zaine Francis-Angol wins promotion to the football league with Hartlepool who earned victory in a penalty shoot-out in the play-off final. (Torquay keeper had equalised with a header in the 95th minute of normal time).

Another O'Donnell piece in The Guardian: ‘I love your calves’ – what Scotland’s Stephen O’Donnell told Jack Grealish
  15. The white one Wullie P is wearing always looked great under the floodlights on a wet Wednesday night at Fir Park.

Although the author of that one may just be a wee bit biased Good to see a positive reaction to the stick he was getting, even it if was the usual over-the-top hysteria from an OF slanted media.

Give what he said about wanting to stay local so him and his wife would be near family and friends, I'd be surprised if he moved down south. (Of course, money talks).

Gallagher was always 3rd in line (at best) for a starting spot. He got his chance due to withdrawals and, like a few others in the same boat at the time, stepped up and put in a couple of great performances to get us to the finals. I don't think it's a surprise that he's dropped back to his original position in the queue for starting slots, though.
  19. A closed door match. Or as we are now used to calling them, "a match".
  20. I think it looks good on shirts with no hoop or band.

The best thing about O'Donnell being in the Scotland squad is that it gives 'Well fans a target to moan about in the close season.
  22. I wonder why they bother scheduling all of our OF games at 3pm on a Saturday. Chances of any of them kicking off on that day/time are zero.

It is. We've had players like Gary McAllister who we developed in the youth system and captained Scotland in Euro 96 but he wasn't capped until after he left Motherwell.

In most tournaments I'd agree with that. With the weird 24 team format (which is ridiculous for a competition that used to have only 8 finalists) one win is likely sufficient to move on. So I can see us losing our next game then taking a 1 - 0 lead in the final game and conceding late. What it won't be a is a "glorious failure".
