  1. The less any government gets involved in footballing decisions the better as far as I'm concerned. There's never been a pro-football government of any political persuasion in my lifetime.
  2. I hadn't realised Danny Johnson moved to Mansfield after rejecting a new contract at Orient - but I see he scored from the spot in his league debut against Bristol Rovers.
  3. The latest on Dundee's website says "The club have made an application to the local authority for an increase in capacity in both of these stands and also for an allocation for visiting supporters in the Main Stand." Also says they will have a minimum of 5000 with no social distancing. So looks like they are waiting for the official nod from the council.
  4. I'm not sure if it's the tactics, the personnel or both, but right now we are leaving ourselves exposed on both wings.
  5. Or give the new players more than 2 league games to bed in (although I know that's not how we roll on here despite some of our best players ever getting off to a slow start).
  6. Our recent record in Perth isn't too bad. In the last 3 seasons we've played five, won two, lost two, drawn one. Entertainment is often zero, though.
  7. Doesn't matter what any other team does. We need to be taking care of our own business and not worrying about what we can't control.
  8. Interest free loan to be repaid over 20 years is a pretty sweet deal. Even if we didn't need it, sticking it in the bank and collecting interest would make it worthwhile. The lower league clubs were hit much harder than us for various reasons, and I have no problem with them receiving grants instead,
  9. Apart from the black...
  10. 1982. The scene - a pub anywhere in Scotland. A tune comes on the video jukebox (it 's an upmarket pub). A few folk start mumbling the tune. The chorus kicks in and the singers ramp up their volume, "Too-ra-loo-ra, too-ra-loo-rye, ay" they roar in unison Then "Over the hill with the swords of a thousand men" 50% of them end with, thinking it was Tenpole Tudor they were listening to.
  11. I'd bet my entire net worth (= the contents of my pocket) that nobody on here knows 1 verse without looking it up on the internet.
  12. We played them 3 other times last season. Beat them 1 - 0 at Fir Park. Drew 1 - 1 in Perth and lost the cup tie 1 - 2 at Fir Park. That's a lot more representative than what was close to our worst performance all year.
  13. I'd be amazed if St Johnstone score 4. Most of their league wins last season were 1 - 0, with the odd 2 - 1 thrown in for variety. If we do lose, it will be by the odd goal, but they didn't set the heather on fire against Ross County last week.
  14. Does anyone under the age of 45 know the tune to that? Kevin Rowland can't even hold it.
  15. Biggest issue for me with the defence at the weekend was it was the first time they played together this season and weren't acting as a unit. Whoever GA decides is our best starters need to settle in quick so they can work out who needs to cover for who when we have defenders miles up the park.
  16. Seriously - get off the sofa and finish it up. 90% of the work has already been done.
  17. Seeing as it's only 70s songs that seem to fit: "Now, I've got a cousin called Kevin" someone else can do the work on that.
  18. While I enjoy giving him a hard time, Main's biggest problem when he was with us, is he lost confidence. He got away with it to some extent with his work rate and putting himself about. You always hear about strikers "taking a gamble" to take a position where the ball might end up, but if you watch his later games, his lack of confidence meant he did the exact opposite - always taking a safe position where he wouldn't have to shoot. His stint at Aberdeen didn't do much to repair that confidence, and I think he's a 5 or 6 goal per season striker at best at our level (and he's never had a double digit season at any club) - but I agree he's not the worst we've had. If you have an actual goal scorer in the team, he's not bad partner to play off.
  19. I'm a fan of controlled aggression. I just meant that sometimes he gives away needless fouls in the wrong areas of the pitch or picks up an needless booking. Should be easy enough to correct, though, as he gets more experience and I definitely think he's worth his starting place right now.
  20. I like Maguire, because he has a bit of football in him too. Still a bit raw at times, but more first team games should get help him get rid of the odd rash tackle and overambitious pass.
  21. Depends on your age, I suppose, but I remember when Ayr Utd were a mid-table SPL team (when it was a pretty ruthless 10 team league).
  22. Obviously I meant this as my half-time prediction.
  23. When Celtic were struggling last season Turnbull was often one of the standouts. However, he's still young and needs good players around him. He shouldn't be trying to carry the team. Of course, the sooner he moves on, the sooner we get our next sell-on fee, so here's hoping he gets fed up ASAP.
  24. I wouldn't worry about that - American sports fans don't even have leagues where every team plays each other, never mind relegation.
