  1. Accies probably lose less money with no fans in. I think we were taking advantage of the government loans too. While not quite free money, it was close. given the repayment terms.
  2. I know players didn't have as much power back then, but I don't think we could have made him sign. Probably just "strongly encouraged". I noticed today that a Derby County player picked up a payout from 2019 for unfair dismissal. The report says that he was on £24k a week plus bonuses, which just goes to show the huge pay hike you can get from a middling Championship team.
  3. If that turns out to be the case, he should fire his agent.
  4. Worse than that, they were the 3rd best team in the Championship that year. Like most 'Well fans I was mostly worried because of our dreadful record against them. However, in any other year you'd fancy the Premiership team in 11th to comfortably beat the 3rd best Championship team, and that turned out to be exactly the case. I've said it before - while Baraclough had some faults, the way he approached this play-off was pitch perfect in both legs. His enthusiasm in the press conferences, bigging up the team while letting Rangers be favourites was spot on; as were his tactics at Ibrox.
  5. Just received a notification that my account was hacked by a Mrs Polworth.
  6. I hope he's got more ambition than that. That was the biggest disappointment for me when Turnbull left. Of course we all knew he was going to Celtic, but it felt like the easy option. Guys like Faddy and McAllister (or even Moult, Scott and Kipré) changed leagues in an effort to expand and develop their careers.
  7. Carson. Check. Donnelly. Check. Grimshaw. Check. Dunne. Wait for it, wait for it.
  8. The "racist bit" is used at every opportunity because lots of people are still saying racist things - sometimes, without realising it. The same way that lots of people are still saying sectarian things.
  9. His circumstances are very different this time as he was crocked for months and at this point there is no evidence of how soon he'll be match fit again (if ever). We all know how common it is that players with long term injuries often get injured again once they step up the intensity to match levels. Regardless, as much as I liked the guy, I'm sure Alexander will have a clear plan and list of targets for his rebuild. If he wants to sound out Moult then fair enough, but I'd be just as happy if he kept Cole.
  10. That's a bit revisionist for a guy that took us the the Scottish Cup final in his first season and led us to 6th, 3rd, 2nd and 3rd league spots. (And he's hardly unique in having a poor record with us in Cup competitions, or bottling games at Ibrox. We haven't exactly set Govan on fire with our performances there before he arrived or since he left).
  11. My hearing's still good enough to hear that whooshing.
  12. It was 53 years ago, not 43.
  13. I was wondering why I don't remember seeing him play. So I looked it up. Bad news, mate - it was 53 years ago. You're older than you think!
  14. He made a comment about a black player having a doctored African passport. As he said himself, "It was a clumsy and insensitive analogy"
  15. Sounds like Aberdeen looking for some good press with their own fans before the end of the season. They've never been slow to parade their latest signing from Fir Park.
  16. He had the old Derby County stadium named after him.
  17. I'd have preferred the Hunter Stand to be the Joe Wark stand purely because I spent years on the Terrace there watching him crunch a few tackles and bomb up and down that wing a few feet away.
  18. Ian St John is the obvious one to me. Other contenders Joe Wark, Willie Pettigrew, Charlie Aitken, Bobby Ancell. This is why I don't like naming stands after players, as there are too many quality candidates who miss out. I'd be OK if they renamed it The Away Stand.
  19. No doubt the highest polling Standy McStand Face will be rejected.

Disappointed by the quality of defending on display.
  21. And for those of a certain age, "There's only one united and that's a chocolate biscuit" Shankland to score after I slagged him off in a different thread, but not enough to overcome our 3 goals.
  22. The club and the player both know the exact details of the contract and would have been able to manage any issues weeks or months in advance. Anything else posted about it on here is as credible as Trump's stolen election claims.
  23. TBH, I think they have all improved and that is down to GA instilling some confidence back in the squad.
