Not sure why I'd be bothered watching St Johnstone in the Scottish Cup, but as far as Motherwell are concerned, I've been watching them for about 50 years with zero expectation of winning anything. The best I hope for is some entertainment and at least an attempt at some decent football. I know that doesn't always happen, but if the manager's philosophy is to intentionally adopt a negative anti-football style of play, I would stop watching. I only get to see the vast majority of the games on the MFC stream anyway, and that already diminishes the experience without adding to the misery with donkey ball.

I'm serious. I'd rather watch teams try to play a bit of football and fail than set up to team just to stop the opposition. I have zero interest in anti-football tactics.

I agree with that, and I'd also argue he's used to working with a bigger budget than we can offer.

Salford have ideas above their station. From the games I watched, Alexander was doing just fine - he just didn't give them the instant success they thought they were entitled to. Salford have dropped down the table since he left and are out of the playoff positions, so whatever their plan was, it hasn't worked yet. Given his knowledge of the lower leagues and the fact he was head of youth development at Preston, I can see why he ticks a few boxes. Of course, I've no idea what kind of job he'd do for us.

Tommy Wright spent the last two seasons moaning he wasn't getting enough money from the St Johnstone board. Given they have a much bigger budget than we do, I can't see how he'd deal with the cut in funds. Also, I'd rather stick my head in a vice than watch a St Johnstone style performance every week until the end of the season. If we end up playing that style of football I'm giving up.

I agree it's unfair to judge him on 2 days. I don't just think he's the the right man for the job for now. He has been a key part in the management/coaching partnership this season that has landed us where we are and he has zero management experience. If Robinson had left because he'd been poached and the team was in a positive state, it would be a different story, but examples all round the leagues tend to show that when you are in our position you need an outsider with fresh enthusiasm and no baggage. It's tough on Las, and I hope we can find a position for him in the club, but that is the downside of being an assistant manager.

I hope we don't bring in a new manager based having Lasley as his assistant. It would be hard on Las (unless we can keep him around in a different capacity), but the hard fact is that when you are an assistant you tend to get hired and fired in pairs. I wouldn't want Wright for a number of reasons. The biggest one being his complaints before he left St Johnstone that the board weren't giving him enough money. If he thought the budgets were tight in Perth he'd struggle at Fir Park. If we are doing a 6 month contract with a view to a broader search in the summer, then maybe Wright would work, but it feels like it would be more of the same. It seems to me like we need someone to lighten things up and bring in a bit of positivity and, at least in his interviews, Tommy does not strike me as being that guy.
