  1. Agree with the Cash Convertors point. Also, for me, companies like Facebook are doing far more damage to society than just about any other business I can think of.
  2. Probably true. Athough much less of a gamble for an EPL team drinking from the money hose, than for team a like Celtic. (Of course, Celtic is still by far the most likely destination at the end of it all).
  3. That's the key for me. Whether we break into the top 6 or not, I think we are likely to have more entertainment at Fir Park this time around. And outside of winning a trophy, that's why we turn up every week.
  4. BTW, I don't disagree with the notion that some gambling, and alcohol and cigarette (and Cash Converter) companies push their products to the less well-off. Where I take isssue is when people think that banning these companies is the solution. It's certainly a great campaign slogan and an easy bandwagon for government and activists to jump on. What it fails to address is the actual poverty and deprivation of the communities that are being targeted. That is a more important problem to address, and will take much more effort to solve. And governments (especially ones of the current shade of blue) aren't too interested in solving hard problems; especially when they can stay in power without those votes.
  5. Would it be hypocritical if we banned sponsorship from a gambling firm, but continued to promote the 'Well Lottery? This is where banning things gets tricky.
  6. There has been a lot of damage done to civil liberites over the years with the "won't anyone think of the children" I'm all for informed discussion and debate, and have no problem if the club decides they don't want to accept sponsorship from a particular type of product - but let's steer clear of banning things and treat each opportunity on a case by case basis or we'll end up banning breakfast rolls at the Business Breakfasts because they aren't healthy.
  7. The category concept is supposed to represent how much it costs to train a player for a club at that level, rather than some kind of transfer fee. So average attendances doesn't really play into that. Leagues get to set their own team's category, but there generally isn't an advantage to setting it artificially low as when a player moves to higher category club the compensation calculation is based on the average training costs of the two categories. So if you categorize your club too low, you'll reduce that average every time a player moves from your club to a better one. Where it starts getting complicated is that MLS teams weren't part of the solidarity payment scheme, so the system and the categories are still a new concept. They only signed up recently when their young academy talent started moving to other countries for free. They still don't, however, pay any compensation for moves that take place within the MLS, so the penalty for ranking a team lower is less severe than other leagues.
  8. Regardless of any other arguments, Turnbull is the exception to many rules who shouldn't really be used as an example of anything other than being born with a gift that can't be taught.
  9. Hearts, Hibs and Accies haven't been covering themsevels in glory either. Far too early in the season to be writing any team off, but it looks like we'll have some entertainment at Fir Park this season. We could run a book on the biggest start Seedorf can give a defender and still beat him.
  10. We won't get relegated or be in the play-offs.
  11. Capacity is 2,020. I doubt we'll take more there than we did to QotS.
  12. That's because you're a fan. The manager has to balance winning the game, winning the group and getting the players lacking full fitness ready for the league campaign.
  13. Not many of us there that night, but I was one them. And it was on Scotsport later (mainly because the rules at the time meant if they wanted to show highlights of an English game they also had to show the highlights of a Scottish game too). Of course, this week's game won't be at Boghead.
  14. That's very true. Skippy nagged, bullied and encouraged (mostly nagged) Erwin constantly through every minute he played. That can't be underestimated.
  15. Might be that or might be we've worked out how to better integrate the needs of preseason training with the (different) needs of competitive games in the middle of it. (Or it could be that AND that we've signed better players)
  16. Very early stages yet, but I wasn't overly impressed with St Johnstone or Ross County today.
  17. And we loaned Erwin out (to Arbroath) to get him first team football.
  18. That was the first squad I remember.
  19. He apologised later. I can't say it bothered me any more than thinking "that wasn't a smart thing to say" for about 2 seconds and then forgetting about it.
  20. Fell out with the management at Swindon when he got his chance, and now is in our classic mould of a player with "a point to prove"
  21. Correct - I only posted the very specific clause that deals with last night's situation. The second part of the law is:
  22. There is. Only the opponents have to be outside the box. The ball is in play "when it is kicked and clearly moves" - and as soon as it's in play the opponents can also enter the box. The idea being it speeds up play and reduces time wasting.
  23. With his 22 goals, a key part of McCall's side that finished 2nd in the league (while losing to Albion Rovers in the Scottish Cup).
  24. Scott has improved because of a consistent starting spot at the end of last season and this. If he's not going to be the regular starter in the league, I think he'd be better off getting first team football as a loanee. Much better for development than playing in the half-baked Reserve league. Strikers, probably more than any other position, benefit from keeping sharp by playing competitive games.
  25. EDIT: let me try and get the formatting right this time The latest version of the relevant rule (Rule 9) I found on the IFAB website reads as follows: And the Procedure as per Rule 8 for a drop ball is now: So, the ref made the correct decision.
