It's a difficult balancing act between finding the perfect time to sell off players for the best price and keeping players that will contribute to higher league placings (and hence more income for the club).
Right now, we have a decent squad, balanced books and are gunning for 3rd place. I'd rather have that than be trying to win promotion from the First Division.
Undoubtedly that is part of the equation. However, other factors such as being an international, and being on a bigger salary factor into it. Most importantly, however, is the fact that more than one team was interested in buying him.
And if we had offered him 2 or 3 years and he was a donkey, the "McCall Must Go" thread would be in meltdown.
It's a fine line which the club has managed reasonably well recently, but tying up even one salary to a non-contributor makes a huge impact when you have such a small squad.
And even if he was a free agent, he might still have only wanted a short term deal to see what develops over the summer.
Faddy shone in what was a fairly average (to be generous) 'Well team. Rossco shone in one of the best squads we have had in recent memory.
Probably in the minority, but even if both were fully fit, I'd be taking McCormack.
Slow, however, is not the same as unfit. There are plenty of decent players that aren't speedy. Chris Porter is one that springs to mind right off the bat.
Well, if you want to play devil's advocate, are we saying the moaners are negatively affecting the players?
If the choice is better entertainment with a more enthusiastic crowd versus less entertainment surrounded by clueless abuse, then I'm firmly in the better entertainment camp.
