  1. Not saying that post is wrong because I know nothing about Penney, but I remember the Oldham fans telling us about how Porter was a crock with bad knees who wouldn't do much for us.
  2. You mean like McGhee (or even Brown) had from his time down south? I don't remember him bringing in the quality of player (using all his contacts) that Gannon introduced. It was widely reported that when JG interviewed for the Hibs job that he had a list of 30 or so targets for every single position on the field. Not 2 or 3. Targets he had watched develop since they were playing in the the youth leagues, and targets with whom he had developed a good footballing relationship. More importantly, when he said he was going to acquire a striker or a keeper or whatever within the next few days, that is exactly what he did. I'm still waiting (along with Aberdeen fans) to see McGhee's big powerful centre half he has been promising.
  3. The only desperation I can see is from the posters on here. A few Twitter 'exclusives' from the Daily (Yesterday's news the day after tomorrow) Express is hardly worthy of anything but healthy skepticism. I haven't seen any fact based stories of people being offered the job only to knock it back. All I have read is unsourced stories of people of have decided they are no longer interested. I'd rather we took a few more days to decide than rush into a Malpas situation.
  4. The reason they get away with it is simple. There are more of them than us and it is easier to control the actions of a few than the actions of a few hundred (or thousand). With a few hundred, it's a matter of containment.
  5. Well, we don't know if it is true,so I wouldn't be too worried yet. I wouldn't be surprised if some applicants decided to withdraw after an interview - that's pretty normal. However, it's not the same as being offered the job and turning it down. Time will tell, I suppose, but there's no use in worrying about Daily Express Tweets.
  6. If he does end up the new boss, it's another good job by the board keeping a name under wraps for so long.
  7. You can't punch above your weight for 18 months in football. It's 11 vs 11 every week, and over the course of a season the better teams finish higher up. So if we are top 6 it's because the players are sufficiently talented to merit being in the top 6. Not because we keep beating teams that are better than us.
  8. Pretty sparse looking crowd there.
  9. The one thing we know from previous appointments is that the press really has no clue who the manager will be. They churn out theories, but have been way off the mark many times. The Board does a great job in keeping things under wraps.
  10. Calderwood, not too long ago, said he was bored with the SPL and needed to work in a different league. If that's the case then he doesn't meet your criteria as it sounds like he will be heading south (or back to Europe) sooner or later.
  11. I'm more of a Day Before Yesterday's Man
  12. That's what I was thinking. The string of postponements is going to put us at a disadvantage when we need to play 3 games a week to get back on track (unless we can expand the squad somehow).

    Even Approach

According to the article in The Scotsman, the police said they couldn't cope with 12,000 travelling Rangers fans as the surrounding areas were so iced up that, as well as a safety risk controlling a large crowd, there wasn't sufficient space for parking etc. That was why the Dundee game could go ahead but the Utd. game was cancelled.
  14. No way Michael Ballack is our new gaffer.
  15. I wouldn't wish it on the club, but the seasons we spent in the First Division were a lot of fun with days out to some great wee (and not so wee) grounds. Another reason for a 16 team league.

    Playoffs

Nobody. But over a period of games it's less likely to affect the overall accumulation of points. Also, if you are the recipient of a bad, game changing decision in game 3or 4, you have plenty of other games to bounce back. A bad decision in a one-off match could have significant financial consequences.
  17. Lies. I read your posts - you never laugh.
  18. If the fans get bored watching teams play each other 4 times they aren't going to be watching the games on television either. The TV money is only there because it gets bums on seats. Putting the 4th or 5th meeting of teams on telly doesn't magically make it more interesting to watch.
  19. What are the odds our new gaffer is currently employed?
  20. We slagged him off because of his fake tan, not because of his managerial ability. The guy has had 14 straight years' employment as a manager, so whether you like him or not, there are plenty of people who have some faith in his ability.
  21. I know people like to overestimate the quality of the English Lower Leagues, but it's a bit of a stretch to say that the 21st team in League One is the same standard as Motherwell. And Trollope is the man who put them there.
  22. I liked Big Tel, but let's not forget that he also bailed on his contract and, as I recall, wasn't exactly up-front about his job hunting activities down-under. I'd rather have a great manager that moves on in 2 years than one who doesn't attract any attention elsewhere.
  23. Because it will be in good shape when we do have games, and when the abnormal snow conditions disappear and we are back to regular overnight frost/freezing (with no snow involved) we will be minted.
  24. Wait until Jan/Feb when there is just frost to deal with and then judge. It was never intended to deal with the current weather and I imagine there will be 3 or 4 games saved per season because we have it. For a club like us, that can keep the finances ticking over nicely.
