They let Stokes play for Falkirk.
  2. It's not about scaremongering. When the Setanta contract was agreed, clubs would likely change their financial projections for the next few years to reflect this. Having a guaranteed income stream allows you to make borrowings against that stream and pay, for example, larger salaries now in the expectation of being able to fund them from future income. If that future income has now been cut, it means all those projections also have to be adjusted downwards.
  3. That was (an alleged) contract though, not a pre-contract. If any player decided they didn't want to come to Fir Park after agreeing a pre-contract, I doubt McGhee would force them. We don't want anybody here that doesn't want to play for the club.
  4. But apart from that, no other problems? If we are looking for another keeper, I'd be happy to see him back.
  5. If we really are that close to qualifying for Europe, the first team should be on holiday by now, and whoever is left will get a game.
  6. Only from playing. His driving ban has run its course.
  7. I remember when he came back from injury the first time that McGhee wasn't entirely convinced. He even said in the press that "he knows what he has to do" etc. etc. So he has obviously been looking for specific areas of improvement. However, more recent comments make me think that McGhee has seen enough to offer him a new deal. Of course, that's just me reading between the lines.
  8. Plus, they had the brass neck to give him a 'complimentary' ticket with a hand written price on it.
  9. I have never been as drained at the end of 90 minutes as I was that day. No idea how I made it through extra time.
  10. What benefit would be gained by the SFA for 'choosing' Hibs in front of us? If the answer is 'none' then why do it?
  11. Just saw the highlights on the Beeb website. And I mean 'just'. I think they were using a camera on the gantry at Fir Park. All 3 goals nicely taken, and Sheridan's turn for the 3rd was a deft touch. (I see we even managed a goal from a short corner specially for Al B!)
  12. Because in end of the season situations like this it could affect the way teams play to the disadvantage of others directly involved in the relegation and title battles. Imagine the outcry if Hibs had gone out today and not tackled anybody.
  13. I read an interview with McGhee a few days ago where he said they were looking at various options in Germany and Austria for pre-season, but they would have to rethink those plans if they do get into Europe.
  14. The boss today said he thought he had gone off the boil midway through his loan period, but came back to form in the past few weeks. That's to be expected with a youngster, but from what I have seen of him (and that has, admittedly, only been from highlights) I wouldn't say no to extending his loan deal next season.
  15. There you go! I couldn't remember the details, but I knew there were people on here that did.
  16. Did you think Sheridan had a poor game today?
  17. Aye, I might be more excited if there was any chance of being able to make one of the Euro ties, but I won't be gutted if we don't make it through the Fair Play. I'd be just as happy to sign two or three new players and get a solid preseason under our belt.
  18. Also, in this economic climate, I think there will be quite a few players surplus to other club's requirements this close season, so there may be some good deals to be done.
  19. This was touched on last season by people 'in the business' as it were, and apparently the amount of soil (and effort) required to make Fir Park level, makes it uneconomical. Personally, I have always liked the slope as just one more thing that gives the ground a wee bit of character.
  20. McGhee's actual quote after the game today.
  21. I'm saying two things. First of all, listen to what McGhee actually said rather than the fluff rags like the Rancid spun around it. Secondly, I would bet a large sum of money that the scenario you outlined with those players leaving and no new players being brought in does not happen. The transfer fee for Porter alone should cover the pitch repair and the fee for Clarkson, who has a full 12 months to run on his contract, would fund a replacement. So if you are laying odds on what you are predicting, let me know.
  22. We managed to get into the leading Fair Play position without worrying about every tackle etc. I'm happy to see us carry on in the same style as we played all season and if it gets us there, great; if not, no big deal. At least it kept the last few games interesting.
  23. Do you seriously think we will lose *all* six of those players and not bring in any new faces? No wonder you need new pills.
  24. If there are points awarded for 'style of play' or whatever they call it, then presumably we would have picked up more points than St. Midden for gubbing both them and Accies with our silky passing game.
