The "floodlight" white kits are always stunning with whatever claret & amber trim they put on them. It would be hard to argue against having that every year. However, kit manufacturers wont wear that as they want to maximise sales to get their kits out there, so the marketing people will no doubt have the final say and I would expect something quite diferrent this year.......

Thanks for that! Hope springs eternal! 😄

Im usually pretty positive about new signings but his figures are 53 goals in 257 appearances. Im hoping we can get more than a goal every 5 games from him or we are looking at 7/8 goals for the season. To be fair KVV's stats werent exactly inspiring, so happy to wait and see what the big man has in his locker........

Not sure how the super computer can predict anything when the majority of clubs havent got anywhere near their full squads sorted out yet. Surely your league position depends mostly on how successful you are in the transfer market and what your squad looks like at the end of it.

I suspect if he was going to sign the contract we have offered he would have done it by now. His agent has clearly advised him there are better offers out there. Fair play to him, if he can earn more money elsewhere, he has every right to do so. I wouldnt be hanging around any longer waiting though. Time to move on and get someone else in. Unless the plan is to develop Lennon Miller, but thats a huge gamble on the young man, and we would probably need another body in their as back up given we have lost Goss and Cornelius.

Mandron was out of contract at the end of the season. There has been nothing to suggest that we are in negotiations to have him back. I would have thought that the signing of Obika and the fact Mandron has not been seen during our pre season preparations means we are not pursuing him.
-
Sheilds probably isnt good enough. I wouldnt necessarily judge him on his playing time in our team as he has largely been played out of position, but he hardly set the heather on fire at Queens Park playing thru the middle, so difficult to see him being any better for us there. However, he is still our player, so until we have a better option or move him on, I think we need to accept that he is going to get more game time. Having a player like Fletcher alongside him would certainly help him. No harm to Obika, but Fletcher would be a massive upgrade on him.

Agreed. Good to see young Ferrie getting gametime and I would love to see Lennon Miller making real strides forward this year. He has been around the first team squad long enough now. Time to start finding out what he has got. Hopefully the League Cup games will provide the right environment for that.

Scott Burns tweeted that Goss had offers from India and Casey was waiting on offers from England to materialise. Doesnt sound lime either are coming back.

Its certainly up there for the sheer audacity and execution of it, not to mention to euphoria it generated!

Lennon Miller is a midfielder. And no one said lead the line. Having him up front as a link player alongside a player that can score goals. Could be Fowler, could be Akinyeme. Could be someone else. FWIW I would love Lennon Miller to be ready for a starting position in midfield. Whether he is or not remains to be seen.

I know some will feel we had our fingers burned a little with Sheilds. But Akinyeme's record is substantially better and any time he wasnt available last season, Ayr's form dropped off a cliff. Ive got a few Ayr supporting friends who rave about him. They all think he has what it takes to be a success in the top flight.

I agree Fletcher is a very clever player. The thought of him and Dipo Akinyeme up front next season has me salivating a little......

Sad news indeed. Great manager for Scotland and Motherwell. I wasnt best pleased with the way he left us to go to Aberdeen, but that was a measure of how well he had done for us. The Jack & Victor stuff was priceless, and no one will ever forget the 6-6 with Hibs. As others have said the Odense games were probably as good as we have been in a European context and we were desperately unlucky to go out that night. The "auld yin" brought all his years of experience into play in those games and it very nearly paid off. RIP Craig, you will be sadly missed.

Beat me to it! 😆😆😆

Why are we still talking about Mandron? Have I missed something?

Certainly signing Paton doesnt bode well for Maguire. Bevis might survive as a squad player depending on who we bring in, especially with Butcher being unavailable for the start of the season. You cant see there being a place for Tierney, Danzaki AND Mahon in the squad given the way SK wanted to play last year. One of them as an option to change things from the bench, but with Efford returning to fitness as well you would think a couple of them are surplus to requirements unless we change the way we play. McGinley and Shields will probably be a bit like Bevis and depend on who we are able to bring in.
-
2 duds in your opinion. A more balanced opinion might suggest 2 fairly decent squad players who were already on last seasons wage bill, so presumably not costing us any more money. Given that we have moved on a few and some have chosen not to re-sign, we cant be casting adrift absolutely everyone or we will have a threadbare squad and be scrambling for signings near the end of the window, which you have criticised in the past. Lets just take a minute and accept that there might just be plans to add some much needed quality to the squad which cant be done right now.
-
Be really interesting to see what Efford can do this season. He looked a different player under Hammell, but got injured too quickly to assess whether he could have maintained that form. A lot might depend on how SK wants to play this season. If he continues with last seasons shape/tactics its hard to see how Efford fits into that. He might be one that we are looking to move on. He wouldnt be first on my list for that fate though.
-
Not wanting to take sides in this debate, but Spittal plays much further forward than Goss and his role in the team is entirely different. You cant assess his ability to pass the ball on that stat alone. I wouldnt be fussed if Goss left. I think he is replaceable. But I wont be raging if he does sign on again. Like most of our players, he has strengths and weaknesses.

I love a white away kit but doubt very much that we will get another one when we had one last year. Its been a while since we had all claret so would think thats likely unless we go totally out the box with whatever fashion colour the marketing team have assessed will sell best. Id quite like another black away kit but with the claret, amber and white bands across the chest like the last blue kit. I like the italian styling of those type of kits.
-
Cracking kit. Traditional design with a modern twist. They will fly off the shelf. Not crazy about the sponsor, but Id feel the same about that regardless of who it was. Couple of decent signings and all will be good in the world again......
-
Do we not get any of the development fee? Surely we are entitled to some of it? Just asking, as I dont know how these things work......
-
I think SK wants to keep those he knows he can work with and trust, and just add a little in the areas we need to improve. Otherwise its major surgery again which we dont have the money for. I would think there will be a few still under contract who will have been told we wont be difficult to deal with if they can find a new club as their gametime will be limited. Whether they choose to take up that option or are happy to warm the bench remains to be seen.

From the limited amount we saw of Paton at the end of last season, I would say he is a decent squad player. I personally thought he did fine when he was asked to come on do a job. Given that Cornelius has gone and we will be due a development fee for him, I dont think its the worst peice of business. I suspect that there will be further additions to come in midfield, so it will be up to him to push on and show he is deserving of a starting position. Good luck to Deano btw. Backing yourself to make it in another league is a gutsy move. Hooe it works out for the boy.
